2004 Summary
Sensationally successful.  That was the opinion of the vast majority of music lovers who arrived in Tamworth for their annual pilgrimage to the undisputed Country Music Capital of Australia.  Tamworth provided everything from thunder and lightning, drought breaking rain, plenty of sunshine, great food outlets, public transport aplenty, thirst quenching liquids and a feast of world class music at venues all over town.  It was lovely to see the reunions of friends that only meet each year at the January festival and the many new friendships formed that look forward to next years event to meet again.  When asked, it is hard to pinpoint which was the best gig attended or artist in particular as the quality of talent is just so good.  With the mixture of veteran artists, muso's in their prime and the crop of extremely talented juniors all providing knee slapping, hand clapping, toe tapping music for all tastes.  Even the most astute music critics were smiling. A special congratulations must go to the City of Tamworth leaders for getting behind this festival and they can be very proud of the locals for going about their every day chores with a happy smile and a kind word for everybody.  All things considered, this festival was sensationally successful.

TIARA, FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR 2004

On Tuesday night January 20th 2004, at the West Tamworth Leagues club, SA born country music singer Sandra Humphries was announced as Female Vocalist of the year 2004 at the annually held TIARA s ( Tamworth Independent Artist Awards). The song “From the Heart” is from her Debut album “Every Road”.

The tough field of nominations for the award were Karen Lynne, Tanya Self, Kerri McInerney and Sally-Anne Whitten.


Sandra was also nominated in the Top 5 TIARA Songwriting Section with her co-written title track “Every Road”, penned with Fiona Holliday.

The award follows an exciting year for Sandra who released her first Solo Album “Every Road” in April 2003, produced by Bill Chambers.

Sandra collected “ALBUM OF THE YEAR” in September 2003, in the TSA, Tasmanian & New Zealand Independent Awards.

Sandra also received 2 Top 10 Nominations for the Victorian & National Country Music Awards for 2004

With these accomplishments under her belt in just 9 short months its no wonder the bookings coming in hard and fast for 2004,and the release of the first single “Wait a minute”, released in December 2003 on NFS #85 Track 15, is expected to create even more interest, Sandra is certainly an act you have to catch up with and “Every Road” is a must have for “True Country” fans.

Australian Bush Laureate Awards ­ 2004 winners
Winners in the 2004 Australian Bush Laureate Awards were announced before a capacity audience in the Tamworth Town Hall this afternoon.
In Book of the Year, the winner was An Australian Treasury Of Popular Verse, compiled by Jim Haynes, published by ABC Books.
In Book of the Year, Original Verse, the winner was The Cattle Dog¹s Revenge, written by Jack Drake, published by Central Queensland University Press.

In Album of the Year, the winner was Down Memory Lane by Milton Taylor & Carmel Dunn, released by Restless Music, produced by Milton Taylor.

In Single Recorded Performance of the Year, the winner was Down Memory Lane by Milton Taylor (from the Down Memory Lane album) released by Restless Music, produced by Milton Taylor.

Winner of the Judith Hosier Heritage Award (named in honour of Australian Bush Laureate Awards founder) was Warren Fahey, a long time proponent, performer and publisher of all things Australian.

This was the ninth year of the Australian Bush Laureate Awards which were instigated in 1996 to recognise excellence in published and recorded Australian bush poetry.

Winners receive an attractive, finely crafted sculpture of a pen in the shape of a gumleaf giving the trophy the name ³the Golden Gumleaf².

The gala Awards presentation in Tamworth today (Tuesday, January 20) featured performances by Adam Brand, Carter & Carter, Michael Carr, Brendon Walmsley, Sara Storer, Melanie Hall, Jack Drake, Wallis & Matilda, Frank Daniel, Bob Magor, Milton Taylor, Marco Gliori, Paddy Ryan, Dianna Corcoran, Warren Fahey, Drew McAlister, Jim Haynes and Ray Essery.

The 2005 Australian Bush Laureate Awards will be staged in Tamworth on Tuesday, January 18.
