Top Kiwi icons the Topp Twins, Lynda & Jools, bring their popular brand of entertainment back to the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January, despite Jools Topp’s battle with breast cancer.
“For me the big C is now my big challenge”, says Jools. “I want to inspire other women with cancer to stay positive and keep living life, it’s important to not let this illness define you”.

Diagnosed with breast cancer after having a routine mammogram soon after she performed at the Gympie Muster in late August, Jools has since had a radical mastectomy and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

“We call her the chemo cowgal”, jokes her sister Lynda who has moved to the farm to help with Jool’s recovery.
The Topps are one of the most popular acts at Tamworth with sold-out shows since 2000 and were the biggest selling act for their last concerts in 2004.
Jools Topp’s original song Tamworth, won Best Country Song at the NZ Country Music Awards is available on their latest CD flowergirls and cowgirls.
The Topp Twins grew up singing to the cows on the family farm and moved to Auckland in their early 20’s where they developed a cult following as buskers.
In the 1980s they were at the forefront of the anti-apartheid and nuclear-free movements and championed Maori land rights and homosexual law reform.
As out lesbians since 1977, the Topps have been visible and proud of their sexual identity and are wholeheartedly embraced by mainstream audiences.
With a stellar career spanning more than two decades, NZ’s most endearing and enduring entertainers have also created a family of comedy characters as well-loved in Australia as they are in New Zealand, since the ABC screened their award-winning TV Series The Topp Twins.
