GIG & OTHER NEWS & THANKS

Hello everyone!, HAPPY NEW YEAR!, HAPPY EASTER!,... and all that!
It feels like simply ages since I sat down to write this update!... Iım sorry, the days get away from me quickly now with little William growing fast, crawling & finding everything around him fascinating! (especially in the office,.. when he gets the chance while mummy is not watching!) but I am finally returning to the office on a daily basis - even for only an hour or so. As william is not a fan of sleep still, I am simply learning to live without it and get  on with life,.. but if I look or sound a bit bleary at times,.. forgive me. While Iıve been gone the office pile of Œincomingsı & to-doıs has risen to about 2 foot in height and has promptly fallen over,... a redback spider has made a home behind the stack of unread music publications, magazines etc (Iım NOT kidding!),.. and the available floor space has shrunk to a modest square around my chair,.. ah well,.. itıs good to be back!

Sales of the new album continue to trickle in and we are starting to return to a light schedule of gigs and short tours, itıs a good feeling singing again but takes a mammoth effort to organise when factoring our new little passenger in,.. but he has his ³Iım with the band² T Shirt and has generally been taking it all in his stride. Good news with not one, but two Award wins to start the year with! Itıs something that really surprised me as I thought it would be a much rarer occurrence for me these days as the industry machine continues to churn out many new young artists and generally forgets about the old familiar faces like mine,.. (lucky I donıt step aside so easily!) Bad news, as Iıve been rejected by Australiaıs Independent CM Festival at Mildura as an artist - once again,... but no matter, artists like me take festival rejections eveyday,.. (funny, youıd think Iıd be used to them by now!!?).  Most years Iım not surprised, however after offering them the entire bluegrass band for the price of one person! I have to say I was a little surprised that they still werenıt willing to give some bluegrass a try, but hey, ours is not to reason why,..

AWARD WIN - TIARA AWARDS:-  What a nice way to start the year! I know you probably all got the Media Releases I sent out (I have tried to keep you updated in a fashion), but it was lovely to jointly receive (with co-writer Richard Porteous) the Michael Cowdroy Songwriting Award at the Tamworth ŒTIARAı Awards, presented at the 2007 Tamworth Country Music Festival. The TIARA Awards (Tamworth Independent Artist Recognition Awards) were created in Tamworth to recognise the talents of many independent Country Music artists that were often overlooked by the industry media which tends to remain concentrated on the higher profile record company backed performers. They are meant to recognise artists in the grass roots sector of Industry, which happens to be around 90% of performers in country music today. The winning song was ³Blue Mountain Rain², a bluegrass track from the ³Changes² album. The win was extremely welcomed following a string of 9 previous Finalist TIARA Nominations, but really was a great shock!,.. and it was lucky I had time to stop in briefly to the Awards Show in between gigs to be there to accept it. Apologies to Rob & Vicki & all the organisers for having to turn down the opportunity to sing the winning song (even though the band had learnt it without me knowing) but itıs not a song I sing in my everyday reportoire and I didnıt want to risk forgetting it in front of everyone.  A shame, but as there was a number of winners who also chose not to sing their winning song, I didnıt feel so bad,.. I am sorry though, as I really didnıt think I had a hope in hell of winning that one,.. I guess I am a real songwriter now!  Thanks also should go to the Davidson Brothers who after winning 2 TIARAıs of their own, got up and played a traditional bluegrass song with myself and Marty as my contribution to the show.

AWARD WIN - FRANK IFIELD INTERNATIONAL SPUR AWARD:- More good news as I was very humbled to receive the 2007 FRANK IFIELD INTERNATIONAL SPUR AWARD at a packed Œstanding-room-onlyı night at Sydneyıs Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club.  Legendary Frank Ifield presents the award each year in conjunction with The Galston Country Music Festival, and thinks the new CD 'Changes' is fantastic. The award included a release for international airplay and Frank had prearranged that the track 'Blue Mountain Rain' be distributed to coincide with the award presentation. I was therefore stunned & delighted to hear that the following day the track had entered the major UK/European CM Chart at number 3 and was Number 1 in the corresponding Independent Top Ten!  Frank believes there will be a number of great opportunities that will come from the award and we are now looking into the gig opportunities available which will best determine best the time frame to return to the UK & Europe for another lengthy tour.

No.1 CHART POSITION FOR SPUR AWARD UK/EUROPE SINGLE:- Having the winning single debut at No.3 on the UK/Europe Country Chart was pretty special indeed,.. but even greater was seeing it hit the top of this chart only three weeks later. Even better, the single continued to hold itıs number one placing on the corresponding independent chart giving me simultaneous No.1ıs on both charts, Wow!, I never thought Iıd ever get that elusive Chart No.1,.. pity it wasnıt in Australia!, but it has Œspurredı me on! Thanks to all my DJ friends in UK & Europe who played the single!!

Top 5 CHART POSITION FOR SECOND AUSTRALIAN SINGLE:- A great result came from the 2nd single release from the ŒChangesı album. This was the beautiful acoustic ballad ³We should only have time for love² and once again I must thank all the Djs for their support as it reached the top 5 on the Aussie Chart.  Iıve been chatting to many of you over the last few months and there are still many more of you to contact,.. so I will keep working on it. If we havenıt had a chat for a while and you can spare me a few minutes,.. please contact me and weıll arrange a time.

Top 5 CHART POSITION FOR THIRD AUSTRALIAN SINGLE:- The third Australian single from the ³Changes² album has been released and is now in the Top 5. This is a fantastic result considering itıs a real traditional bluegrass track ŒRoses In The Snowı and I was fully expecting that it would probably not get as much airplay in Australia,.. but please!,.. go ahead and prove me wrong!

FAREWELL TO A FRIEND - NEIL BEEBY PASSES AWAY: - Very sad news for me and anyone else who knew Neil, as he passed away on the 6th May.  I met Neil when I was about 16 at Mount Kembla while singing at the South Coast Country Music Association Family day and have crossed paths many times since. Many people knew Neil had been very sick and was being treated for cancer but Iım told he remained positive right till the end. I was lucky enough to pay him a visit & introduce him to young William a few weeks before he died and Iım glad I did. Neil loved Country Music and he devoted much of his time to promote it through radio and other media, heıll be missed.

GIG & OTHER NEWS: - Please check out the coming gig guide, we have started to slowly pick up some gigs,.. weıll be up in Cessnock in May, Nelson Bay in June, a couple of Wollongong based appearances coming up as well, one at Richmond (at the Macquarie Towns Music Club) which sounds like it will be a lovely gig,.. thereıs a couple in Sydney and thereıs even one in the Blue Mountains for any of you who are Œlocalsı like me.  To all those computer-wise people who send me the Œemail funniesı etc, I donıt mind the text only ones, but please donıt send me the ³pps presentations² as my computer cannot open them (I think they are done using powerpoint software?).

THANKS:-Tamworth came and went, thanks to all that took the time to come to our gigs,.. especially at the Masonic Centre which was a new concert venue,... thanks to Kelly Crosby, Ted & Jenny Tillbrook and Val Wood who worked really hard behind the scenes (especially to Kelly for the amazing Pancakes!),.. Val for accommodation and Stan & Val Long for hanging posters for us. Thanks to Sam Smyth for letting us entertain at his Bush Poetry Breakfasts, we had a lot of fun and thereıs always such a lovely audience there. Also special thanks to Joan Douglas & Anna Rose for letting us gig at The Pub - a great venue,.. to Rod McCormack for letting me sing at his famous Bluegrass Concert & Andrew Clermont who always welcomes us as part of his Œsupper club family!. Also to Adrian at the Golf Club who once again allowed myself and Pat to set up a concert and the organisers of the TSA for allowing us to showcase our songwriting skills at their showcase. Thanks to all the Baby-sitters who have helped us at gigs,.. to Dad, Deb, Tracey Parkinson, Jenny & Emily, Mick & Brenda, Jenny, Rhonda & Pauline at Tamworth & Denise Llambias (B&TCMS). I canıt thank these people enough, without them I couldnıt do the gigs,... so far weıve had help wherever weıve needed it,.. & I know some of you have offerred to help at gigs in this way, so for future reference, please let me know again so I better know who I can contact if I need help next time. We had a great time at Cobargo, thanks to Lyn & Warren Vaughn for accommodating us at Cobargo festival and to Tracey Bunn (Ex-Toe suckers), Wendy & Polly (IFC) for watching little Will while we were on stage there. Lastly all of you Djs who have kindly invited me for a radio chat,.. they include John, Bruce, Kristen & Les, Paul (Grizzly Bear), Geoff, Joy & Pejay, Helen, Mike, Pete, Bryan, John Graeme, Barry, Don, Tom, Larry, Brian, Daryl, Gerry & Beth (& Lee Forester who let me Œjump the interview queueı when I had an unhappy bub in the car!),.. anyway, once again Lots of Love!,..Karen Lynne

March 2007 - KAREN LYNNE WINS FRANK IFIELD INTERNATIONAL SPUR AWARD!
Blue Mountains based singer/songwriter Karen Lynne, has won the 2007 FRANK IFIELD INTERNATIONAL SPUR AWARD at a packed (standing-room-only) night at Sydney's Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club.  Frank, who presents the award each year in conjunction with The Galston Country Music Festival, told the audience that "... Karen Lynne is a breath of cool mountain air with a voice as clear as a bellbird. I admit to being an ardent admirer of her bluegrass music and her new CD 'Changes' is an excellent example of what she does best."

The award includes a release for international airplay and Frank had prearranged that the track 'Blue Mountain Rain' be distributed to coincide with the award presentation. He was delighted to surprise Karen with the news that the following day the track had entered a UK and European Chart at number 3 and was number 1 in the corresponding Independent Top Ten!  The concert featured previous winners of the Spur Award and a feature from Frank himself - a monologue from his new E.P 'THEREBY HANGS A TALE'. Karen made a cameo appearance along with husband/banjoist Martin Louis and the evening ended with the entire cast singing a rousing version of "I Remember You" as a tribute to Frank and his tireless efforts in promoting Australian talent.

This is yet another accolade for her latest  album "Changes" which was Produced by Rod McCormack and Herm Kovac, and  is a contemporary Bluegrass & Acoustic recording which has received rave reviews and so far gained Top 5 placings on the National Australian Country Music Chart for the first two radio singles.  The album has now received four major Award Nominations, these being in the "Album of the Year", "Female Vocal", "Bluegrass & Traditional" and "Songwriting" categories of various Australian Awards.

This award comes hot on the heels of her TIARA Award win for Songwriting at the 2007 Tamworth Country Music Festival and her win for Female Vocalist of the Year in the NSW Gold Medallion Awards which  are specifically voted by the (World Alliance of Radio Presenters) (WARP) comprising Radio Presenters all over the world.  The TIARA Awards (Tamworth Independent Artist Recognition Awards) were created in Tamworth to recognise the talents of many independent artists that were often overlooked by the industry media which tends to remain concentrated on the higher profile record company backed performers. Her award was presented in the Songwriting category, to her and her co-writer, Richard Porteous for their song "Blue Mountain Rain". The Award is now her fourth major songwriting honour, even though she's always considered herself more a singer than a songwriter.  Other songwriting achievements include a win in the National TSA Songwriter Salute Awards for "Contemporary Country Song of the Year", three wins in the QLD TSA Awards for (Contemporary Country Song of the Year), (General Country - Modern) and Overall "Best Contemporary Song" categories (all jointly with Blue Mountains Co-writer Pat Drummond); a Win in the National TSA National Country Songwriting Contest for her song "Grandma Used to Say" - co-written with Heather Field and James Gillard from band "The Flood"; a Finalist position in the Australian Country Music "Golden Guitar" Awards for "Apra Song of the Year"; and a Finalist position in the prestigious Lawson Paterson Songwriting Competition (run by the Port Fairy Folk Festival).

Probably Country Music's quietest achiever, Karen demonstrates not only great talent but remarkable perseverance and the staying power necessary to achieve longevity in an industry so fickle, where focus is constantly placed on the next big thing rather than the many artists that continue to prove their worth as entertainers year after year. Now, with five great albums, twelve major Award wins, nearly forty major Finalist Nominations, three international tours, over ten Australian Country Music Radio Chart hits and a number of overseas chart hits, she continues to demonstrate a dedication not often recognised in her field.

NEW SINGLE RELEASE FOR KAREN LYNNE - "Roses In The Snow"
With the commencement of a bright new year comes the latest single from Karen Lynne. The song "Roses in the Snow" is the third track to be released from Karen's highly acclaimed & 4 times nominated "Changes" album and is once again destined for solid airplay and chart success. Produced by Rod McCormack & Herm Kovac, this album is a contemporary Bluegrass & Acoustic Album from which the first two singles have both made Top 5 placings in the National Australian Country Music Chart.

Karen has now personally received over 30 high profile Award Nominations (including 5 in the Australian Country Music "Golden Guitar" Awards). In addition to this she has also won 11 major Awards including 'Australian Independent Female Vocalist Of The Year' in the Australian Independent Country Music Awards, 'Bluegrass & Traditional Country' Award at the VIC Country Music Awards, 'Contemporary Country Song of the Year' - TSA Songwriter Salute Awards and most recently, the 'Michael Cowdroy Songwriting TIARA Award', all of which demonstrate her dedication, consistency & proven ability in a very busy professional career.

Written by Ruth Franks, this song is a traditional uptempo bluegrass track that demonstrates that she loves the traditional side of bluegrass just as much as the more contemporary and is very comfortable singing either.
Currently she is returning to the task of promoting this her fifth album, following the birth of her first child and is shortly to return to the recording studio and begin work on the newest project, a traditional country album hopefully to repeat the success of her Award winning "Second Wind" Country album release a couple of years ago.

Released to radio on the NFS 111, Australian Country singles series

THANKS

Seasons Greetings to you all!,.. December came so quickly!!,.. but Oh! what a year. Itıs been a biggy for me,.. giving birth to a new baby and a new CD is damn hard work! Most importantly, both are doing well and I thank you all for your continued support. With the birth of William, it has been a difficult year - with regard to keeping everyone updated and even still I know Iım very tardy at answering emails, letters, contacting you all by phone, getting Cds posted to you, keeping the website up to date, doing phone interviews and generally keeping you informed etc etc. However, I know most of you have had children and know the incredible demands babies make in their first weeks,.. (months,.. years?) and therefore I thank you for your continuing understanding and support. In fact, out of all the hundreds of media friends there has only been one person really that has become impatient & angry, putting a few unreasonable demands on me in all that time, so it has shown me how decent & patient you all are. I will ask you all to continue to give me a bit more of that patience as we go into the new year, as I know time will still be scarce, but know you are all very much appreciated and I will do the best I can.

The new album is slowly being noticed as a wonderful example of contemporary bluegrass & acoustic music. Unfortunately in Australia I donıt think anyoneıs game enough to give an essentially Œbluegrassı album much recognition - unless youıre a big name artist,.. and this is probably why bluegrass will always be a small market downunder, but regardless I am determined to get it out there! and it will continue to be a part of my reportoire.

The Tamworth gig guide is listed below in this update,... Iım sorry thereıs not many gigs,.. it was very hard to get gigs this year. Even when you try to book and run your own venue, itıs very costly as the average price to hire a venue at Tamworth is about $250, meaning youıre behind before you even begin. Anyway, if you are in Tamworth please pop in to see me & little William!,.. there are a few paying - and non-paying venues to chose from. As Iıve been a bit confined to home this year, it would be nice to see you all.

AWARD WIN - GOLD MEDALLION AWARDS:- A wonderful surprise recently was finding out I had won ŒFemale Vocalist of the Yearı in the ŒNSW Gold Medallion Awardsı. These Awards are voted by the ³World Alliance of Radio Presenters² (WARP) and therefore mean a lot to me as itıs afterall, the Radio Presenters who are out there actually playing the music!. I thank you all for the honour and owe you all an awful lot for the continuing support. Probably more of a surprise was finding out that my fellow Finalists were Clelia Adams, Beccy Cole, Anne Kirkpatrick and Melinda Schneider. Receiving a win from that amazing line-up of artists was almost unbelievable but much appreciated. The Awards were presented at Hexham, on the November 17 and I was unfortunately unable to be there due to previous booking at the harrietville Bluegrass convention in Victoria.

AWARD WIN - UK ŒNCM RADIO MIC AWARDSı 2006:- Another surprise as I recieved the Award for ³Country Female Artist² (Australia & New Zealand) presented by ŒNew Christian Music Enterprisesı in the UK. This was for my gospel track ³There is a Reason² which also made it up to Number 2 on the UK gospel chart a few months ago. I personally love this track and am very honoured,.. and again thank all the DJs who supported it.

FINALIST NOMINATION - TIARA AWARDS:- Another surprise! as I recieved a Finalist Nomination in the 2007 TIARA Awards (Tamworth Independent Artist Recognition Awards) in the Michael Cowdroy Songwriting Award Category. Iıve had quite a few TIARA Nominations in the past but have always been the Œbridesmaidı never the bride, so I guess I wonıt be holding my breath for this one, but again itıs great to be up there in the final five. Other deserved finalists include Fiona Kernaghan, Drew McAlister, Carolyn Morris and Matt Scullion so itıll be a tough one to win. I should add that the song ³Blue Mountain Rain², has been listed in some of the the Media as written by myself only - but I should stress it was a Co-written song, co-written with my friend Richard Porteous.

GRANDFINALIST NOMINATION FOLLOW-UP:- Itıs fantastic that the album has obtained some wonderful award nominations so far. Especially nice, was the finalist nominations in the recent Independent CM Awards (Mildura). Both categories were taken out by Felicity Urquhardt, a deserved winner indeed.

The finalist nomination for the Golden Saddle Award was also special. I knew it would be pretty hard to win as after seeing who was judging, I know they would never have known much about the bluegrass & Acousic style music I do best. Iıve never really been a Œvibrantı clubby-style performer, pumping out that modern country-kick music,.. (and letıs face it Iım not such a spring chicken anymore!) so knowing that, I was really quite proud to be up there in the final three. Talent-wise I thought we were all as good as each other and it was nice to be asked to sing a few songs at the Festival which was a real pleasure. Unfortunately it was a miserable day and the festival was washed out, but we had a nice day anyway,.. (to be honest, baby William was a far bigger hit than his mum!) Amber Lawrence took out a well-deserved win with a great performance,.. but I must say I wouldnıt have liked to judge. Unfortunately I had also just had an operation on toes on both feet a few days prior so that didnıt exactly help my Œstage presenceı any, but the band were great and it was a good day. Marty said the funniest thing was that just as they announced Amberıs name as the winner, baby William rather forcefully spat out his dummy!,.. Marty said heıd wished heıd had a video camera as - even though it was purely coincidental,.. it would have been a Œfunniest home videosı winner for sure!

Top 20 CHART POSITION FOR SECOND AUSTRALIAN SINGLE:- Hot off the press has come the second Australian single from the ŒChangesı album. This time itıs ŒProducerıs Choiceı, as both Rod and Herm wanted this one to be a single. Itıs a beautiful acoustic ballad called ³We should only have time for love². Itıs been released to Australian Radio Stations and once again initial interest has been excellent. Thanks once again to all of the DJs out there who are supporting the song, itıs now Number 5 and still rising on the Aussie Chart.

³CHANGES² - MORE REVIEWS:- are in,.. this particularly special one comes from UKıs Traditional & Alternate Country magazine ³Maverick² ....

³CHANGES² - Artist Karen Lynne
Sublime blending of folk, country and bluegrass (4 stars)
If there was any justice in the big wide world of music then Australiaıs Karen Lynne would be an internationally-known performer signed to a major label with roomfuls of gold discs. But this unassuming lady of song is an indie artist who handles all facets of her career from her New South Wales home, balancing it all with being a new mother. With several UK and European tours to her credit she has begun building a following over here and this, her fifth album, should delight her growing number of fans. Backed up by first-rate Australian musicians including Co-producer Rod McCormack (acoustic guitar), Michel Rose (dobro), Mick Albeck (fiddle), James Gillard (double bass), Trev Warner (mandolin), and Ian Simpson (banjo, acoustic guitar), Karen renders polished renditions of Gordon Lightfootıs The Circle is Small, Paul Craftıs Jealous and Ronnie Bowmanıs The Healing Kind.

Sound quality exudes major label sound. I immediately thought Gary Paczsosa, not exactly an unknown. Throughout the musical arrangements are top notch with the solid country instrumentation of the highest order. Karen twines Appalachian and Aussie strains within a wistful folk-bluegrass framework in such self-penned songs as Loving Arms and Blue Mountain Rain. Ron Blockıs spiritual There is a Reason and Wayland Pattonıs We should only have time for Love are among the best on an album full of gems. It might seem like a long way from Nashville and the contemporary country of Music Row to the bluegrass sounds of Kentucky, and the rural outback of Australia but Karen Lynne shows the distance isnıt that hard to travel musically.
Alan Cackett, Maverick Magazine, UK, Dec 2006

... & once again if you can do reviews in print media contact me and Iıll get you some information.
GIG & OTHER NEWS:- Slowly does it as I ease into the music world once again. I did brave the trip to Mildura - Williamıs first big trip away. It was an exhausting weekend and a little sad that for the third year running I was still not a part of the festival (guess Iıve reached my Œused byı date - which is how quite a few of us 'older' artists are starting to think!), but it was nice to catch up with some friends and fans on the Sunday at Henderson Park. Dorrigo Bluegrass and Folk festival was a fantastic weekend and William slept better than he does at home!. I think all the music and people that held and played with him, just wore him out! Thanks to Bridget Sommers and all the organisers for a really good weekend. Likewise, Harrietville Bluegrass Convention was wonderful also. Even without a proper band line-up we still played some good sets and got lots of lovely comments. The guests from the USA were great and we most gratefully thank Bruce Packard & Maria Duff (Bluegrass Parkway) who filled in with us on Bass for the weekend and everyone who looked after William. Also congratulations to our friends Jason & Chloe Roweth,.. & also Moana & Leo from bluegrass band ŒSunshine Harvesterı, who are due their first babies in March,.. Good Luck! I also made a couple of trips to Wollongong and performed at a couple of the South Coast CM Association gigs. I havenıt been able to get down there for a while so it was nice catching up with old friends. The Association has just reached itıs 35th Anniversary,.. Congratulations to everyone who kept, and more recently who keep it going, I hope you have many years life to go.

THANKS: Once again to everyone who has sent cards, gifts and emails etc congratulating us on the birth of little William,.. Iım still getting Œthankyouı notes out so please bear with me a little longer. ,..

Lots of Love,..Karen Lynne

Hello everyone!,.. My how time flies,.. last thing I remember was telling you how I was anxiously awaiting the birth of my new baby & feeling a little emotional about all the upcoming (Changes) and how I'd handle them,.. and the next thing I know I've been there and done that! How was it you ask?,.. well guys,.. god is definitely a man!,.. after experiencing labour pains,.. I realise there was no way he was ever going through that!,.. wow!, you guys really did get it easy in that department!. I did however luck out there though with a 7 hour labour, no complications and no pain killers (Note I said no pain killers) - not no pain!),.. and mainly because he came so fast, there wasn't time! Anyway, William is now a few months old and I'm beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel (although they tell me there's quite a few tunnels to go through after this one!?).

WELCOME LITTLE WILLIAM!: - We welcome little "William Aaron (Louis)" to our musical world,.. he arrived a week early and it's been a very steep learning curve but Martin and myself have survived,.. still a little shell-shocked, but I guess it's still early days yet! Heıs growing beautifully, and really chubbed up now (takes after his mum on that front!). I have finally got some more pictures on the computer so if youıd like some later ones emailed to you, just let me know. He had some feeding problems when he was very little and we are still working through those but it is getting better and I'm told it hopefully will all have righted itself soon. He's also at that beautiful smiling stage and when he does I just melt!!!,.. (really makes that lack of sleep worth it). He also has lovely long banjo playing fingers like his dad - although I've decided one banjo player in the house is quite enough so he's going to have to take up fiddle or mandolin! Anyway, hope to catch up with many of you at the gigs over the next year or so,.. meanwhile here's the latest news!

GRANDFINALIST FOR GOLDEN SADDLE AWARDS 2006:- Great news that missed the last update by only a few days was that I had been nominated and selected as a finalist for one of Sydney's top Country Music Awards - "The Golden Saddle Award". Finalists are nominated by "industry spotters" from a pool of Australian professional independent artists whom they consider outstanding at what they do. The Award is put up and presented as part of the major 'Galston Country Music Festival' and I was in amongst some top level competition!. The best news though is that I've made it into the top three, along with fellow independents Amber Lawrence and duo "Sweeney Killeen". It would be pretty hard to win as I think we are all as good as each other, but it's an honour to be included among them! This also means I get to sing a few songs at the Galston Country Music Festival which will be a real pleasure.

TWO NOMINATIONS in the AUSTRALIAN INDEPENDENT CM AWARDS - More good news as I've picked up two Nominations in the 10th Australian Independent Country Music Awards of Australia. The first is for (Female Vocalist) - which is always an honour for a singer to receive and secondly in the "Album of the Year" category for the new album"Changes" - even more of a pleasure cause this album really deserves it!,.. here's hoping!

No. 2 CHART POSITION FOR FIRST AUSTRALIAN SINGLE:- The first single from the new album achieved an amazing Number 2 position on the Australian Country Music Chart. We did cross our fingers for the big Number One,.. but unfortunately label artist Lee Kernaghan released his new single soon afterwards and with the huge amount of publicity it got, it raced up the chart and snuck off with the number one spot,.. but hey,... itıs believed to be the highest chart position for a bluegrass song so that's a top achievement. Thanks to all of the Djs out there who supported the song.

No. 2 CHART POSITION FOR FIRST UK SINGLE (GOSPEL CHARTS):- The month of May also brought the first overseas single release for the new album. This time it was the gospel track.   "There is a reason" which was released in the UK and also made it up to Number 2 on the UK gospel chart,.. thanks again to all the DJs who supported it.

"CHANGES" - MORE REVIEWS:- are in,.. this particularly special one comes from USA's biggest Bluegrass Magazine "Bluegrass Unlimited"

"CHANGES" - Artist Karen Lynne
In a word, Karen Lynneıs "Changes" is simply lovely. Her voice is strong & clear. Harmonies are tight yet mellow (the final strains of "Once more" are exquisite). Instrumental arrangements caress the ballads and punch the quick tunes. Collectively, these components deliver 45 minutes of dreamy bluegrass, creating an album that celebrates love through it's many phases. And did I mention that Karen Lynne is from Australia? Sometimes a step back from the source is a good thing, giving musicians a wider perspective, a fresh approach to old chestnuts, a chance to produce something that's both new and familiar. So it is with "Changes". Material comes from writers like Gordon Lightfoot, Ron Block, Phil Ochs, Paul Craft and Ronnie Bowman: a broken heart that won't heal, the craziness of jealousy, old love that interferes with new, wanderlust, the futility of fighting, and the ever-popular cheating. It's a buffet of love themes, and they're delivered with emotional strength and integrity in these 14 tracks. Lyrics and vocals are only half the bluegrass equation, however. Instrumentally, these musicians (I'm assuming they're all Australians) are as accomplished as any you'll find in the USA. Michel Rose's resonator guitar cries on the sad songs and dances on the fast ones. Mick Albeck's fiddle sings with sweetness or crowd-pleasing panache, as required. Ian Simpson's banjo is always bright and bouncy, while the guitar work of both Simpson & Rod McCormack is rich, warm, and sparkling. Trev Warner's mandolin licks fall like crystal raindrops, while James Gillard's double bass is a solid foundation for the band. If you like your bluegrass both sweet & spicy, with clear, expressive vocals and instrumental arrangements that deliver standout individual breaks as well as a cohesive whole, "Changes" could be just what youıre looking for,...
Julie Koehler, Bluegrass Unlimited, USA, August 2006

... & once again if you can do reviews in high profile print media contact me and I'll get you some information.

"CHANGES" - SECOND SINGLE RELEASE: - Hot off the press comes the second Australian single from the "Changes" album, this time Producer's choice', as both Rod and Herm wanted this one to be a single. As we see out the winter months it's a beautiful acoustic ballad called "We should only have time for love". It been released through the Australian NFS Radio Single Compilation (NFS 107) and once again, initial interest has been hot.

GIG & OTHER NEWS:- Not much to say about gigs at the moment as I'm still technically on a break but if you check out the upcoming gig guide there is a few. We are also really looking to going to the Harrietville Bluegrass Convention this year - it's a lot of fun and Marty, William and myself will all be there. Due to Marty's shiftwork it was always hard to get down there,.. but as Marty is now a full-time musician,.. we can go! Also, whilst I didn't get selected for the Mildura CM festival this year, I will indeed be in Mildura for a few days catching up with supporters (and showing off our new baby,.. sorry, I can't help myself, he's a real cutie!),.. as I'll be there, the organiser, John Arnold has invited me to sing at the concert at Henderson Park,.. so if you are going to Mildura, make sure you go to Henderson Park on the final Sunday & come and say hi!,. meet little William,. (and grab a copy of the new album as well!)

THANKS: Firstly to everyone who has sent cards, gifts and emails etc congratulating us on the birth of little William,.. I'm sorry I still have not had much time to catch up on my official thankyou notes,.. but we have been really humbled to see how many of you took the time,.. thankyou so much from both of us,.. it has been a lovely time in my life. Also thanks to everyone who has set up an interview with me to talk about the new album,.. much appreciated!,.. I'm sure I'll be talking to more of you soon.

Anyway,.. not much else to say, .. once again,.. out of sight is not out of mind!!! so don't forget to drop me a line, it would be lovely to hear from you!
Lots of Love,..Karen Lynne

MULTI AWARD NOMINATIONS FOR KAREN LYNNE
Blue Mountains based singer/songwriter Karen Lynne, has been named a Grand Finalist in the 2006 ‘Coopers Golden Saddle Awards‘. She is one of three Grand Finalists selected from a pool of twelve finalists who are all Australian professional independent artists. Finalists are originally nominated by various "industry spotters" whom consider them outstanding as entertainers in their field.

Along with the two other Grandfinalists - Amber Lawrence and Sydney Duo, ‘Sweeney Killeen‘, Karen will perform at the Galston Country Music Festival to compete for prizes which include a beautiful trophy, cash and a recording package with top Sydney producer, Herm Kovac. “Against such strong competition I’m not so sure I’d actually win,.. but it’s a real honour to be included in the final three” said Karen. The Award will be presented on September 10th as part of the Festival.

2006 has also celebrated the release of her fifth album, a bluegrass & acoustic recording called “Changes” which has been tipped to bring her great success and accolades have indeed begun pouring in. As well as rave reviews and a Number 2 placing on the National Australian Country Music Chart for the debut single “The Circle is Small“, the album has now received it’s first major Award Nominations, firstly in the ‘Album of the Year’ category of the prestigious Australian Independent Country Music Awards held annually in Mildura. Karen’s vocal ability and her very individual approach, make this latest album an absolute treat and well worthy of such recognition.

Additionally and as a former Independent ‘Female Vocal’ Award Winner (2003), Karen has once again secured a finalist berth in the ‘Female Vocal’ category. Possibly Country Music’s quietest achiever, Karen demonstrates not only great talent but remarkable perseverance and the staying power necessary to achieve longevity in an industry so fickle, where focus is constantly placed on the ‘next big thing’ rather than the many artists that continue to prove their worth as entertainers year after year.

Now, with five great albums, eight major Award wins, over thirty major Finalist Nominations, three international tours, twelve Australian Country Music Chart hits (six in the Top 10) and a number of overseas chart hits, she continues to demonstrate a dedication not often recognised in her field.

Hello everyone ...

William Aaron Louis

Just letting you all know that Martin & I have a new little baby boy!!,
'William Aaron Louis' came into the world on Wednesday May 31st and we are
all doing OK considering the worldwind we've been through in the last few
days!.

I've been in Blue Mountains Hospital and am just out now,... please accept
my apologies for not letting you all know sooner !,.. he's very little and
has had some feeding problems so we are on regimented 3 hourly feeds (and
there's a bit of mucking around involved in his feeding at present),.. which
has made it a 'round the clock' vigil that doesn't allow for much else to be
done,... so please forgive me If you don't hear much from me over the next
few months (and that includes answers to emails you've sent me in the last
2-3 weeks,.. there are many to go through and they will take time),.. I'm
told his feeding should get better and all will calm down eventually and
i'll catch up with you all then.  Anyone wanting interviews re: the new
album - throw me a date that suits you in say,.. july or august and
hopefully life will have become a little more organised by then.

Meanwhile Marty tells me the single "The Circle is small" has reached number
4 on the Australian country Music chart,... thankyou all so much for the
support!!,.. please give it another few spins over the next few weeks and
see if we can get it up even further!

The new album is getting wonderful publicity and comment for the media and
supporters,.. pity I'm not out there 'selling'  it,.. but I'm sure we'll be
back on the road later in the year.

There will also be a new single out soon,.. please keep a watch out for it
- i guess i won't be able to actively promote it as much, but i hope you
will give it support also. Lastly Forgive the 'non-blind email address
format' i'm sending this in - i'm afraid I can't do this email on the normal
computer i use, and this one isn't allowing me to do it,.. keep in touch,..

Best wishes & keep us in your prayers!
Karen Lynne (Louis) & Marty
(p.s he's 6lb 7oz & gorgeous!!)

distraction!!!!I'm sure she will talk to
you all very soon.

It's taken a few months but here I am with an update for you all. Please forgive the delay in getting it out to you all, but in the last few months much has happened, including trying to deal with lots of requests for the new album - all which take time as they are processed individually by me.

Thanks for all those Radio presenters who are giving radio time to the first single "The Circle is Small",.. I'm told it's just climbed to Number 16 on the Australian Country Music Chart and is travelling quite quickley - thanks so much, let's hope this one can reach that elusive top five! of course any interviews would be VERY much appreciated over the next months,.. so please drop me a note if you can oblige!

Also a little "News Flash" which reached my ears too late for the update below - and that has been that i have been nominated and selected as a finalist for one of Sydney's top Country Music Awards - "The Golden Saddle Award". Finalists are nominated by "industry spotters" from a pool of Australian professional independent artists whom they consider outstanding at what they do. The Award is put up and presented as part of the major 'Galston Country Music Festival' and I'm in amongst some top level competition!,.. so while I'm not expecting to win, it's an honour to be included among them all - especially in my 'home town' of Sydney! (More on that next update)
All the very best

ALBUMS UPDATE
THANKS

Welcome back everyone!,.. Sorry I havenıt been in contact since December, I thought the chaos of 2005 was going to be fairly impossible to get even close to, but after some of our new year happenings,.. Iım not so sure!

Hope Christmas was a relaxing one for you all!,.. apart from being a little too warm for even us Aussies who so enjoy the sunshine!,.. we had a very nice family get together in the Mountains. I have been talking to many of you recently with the release of the first single from the new album and have had many requests to visit your area once again this year. Unfortunately, I wonıt be doing too much touring this year as I have been Œofficiallyı grounded for one of the nicest reasons I can think of, as (in case the grapevine hasnıt quite reached you yet), if all goes well, Iıll be joining the ŒMumısı club in early June. Yes,.. the secret is out and for all those who saw me at Tamworth looking like Iıd had a little too much chrissy pudding but were too afraid to ask, (.. and so you should be!),.. it wasnıt the chrissy pud after all! Of course if all goes well, I hope to be venturing back on the road later in the year for a few festivals & short term gig runs to see how I cope, but Iım going to try not to overdo it as itıll all be very new to me and I want to enjoy this time while it lasts. It will hopefully give me some valuable time as well to prepare for some touring in the year to come. Meanwhile I have a wonderful new album to push and being at home will allow me to do that far more effectively than one can on a mobile phone & a laptop,.. so hereıs to an exciting year ahead!

SUCCESSFUL RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM ³CHANGES²:- The new album was released at Tamworth as part of a wonderful concert at West Diggers. It was touch and go there for a while waiting in the dressing room for the all important call from Mick Albeck and Ian Simpson as to whether they were going to make it!,.. as they were driving from a Paul Kelly gig in QLD the night before, but they did!, and were even able to have a quick breather while Rod McCormack and his mates from ³The Wheel² kicked the concert off to a good start. Gina Jeffreys joined them for a guest spot and there was plenty of blistering instrumentals and action until it was time for me to showcase the new album. I have to say I was a little nervous,.. (sorry, I lie,.. a LOT nervous!) Iıve rarely worked with musicians of that calibre in my career but I really had no reason to worry. We had Ian Simpson on banjo & guitar, Rod McCormack on Guitar, Jeff McCormack on Bass, Mick Albeck on fiddle and Marty joined us playing banjo also and filling in the missing third harmony. Apart from a few nerves on my part and a stretch to hit the high notes due to my Œrestricted diaphramı these days (just another little hazard we encounter when pregnant), it went wonderfully. I wish to thank all involved especially Herm Kovac who offered to do sound for the show and Rod who put the whole show together.

I also apologise to those who came partially to hear a few songs from Kasey Chambers, it was certainly the plan when the advertising was done, but Kasey was unfortunately unable to be there. I also apologise to Jeff McCormack who seems to be the only one I forgot to formally thank on my album cover. Jeff mastered the album and although he Was credited for mastering, he wasnıt personally thanked in my Œthankyou pagesı & I felt bad about that. I doubt thereıs been an artist alive who didnıt forget to thank someone in their album booklets,.. thereıs always a couple of missed ones you feel terrible about later,.. but so far I think Iıve only missed Jeff?,.. so this is a belated thankyou to him for his efforts. We were alarmed to discover that not only the launch but the entire Bluegrass Concert had been completely omitted from the official Festival program. This had nothing to do with us and worried us that it would affect the numbers severely, but it seems that bluegrass lovers have their ears to the ground about that sort of thing,.. and the word did quite effectively get around via the Œbluegrass telegraphı and we enjoyed a full house for the concert.

³CHANGES² - FIRST SINGLE RELEASE:- The first single has been released thru the NFS Radio Single Compilation (NFS 103) and the initial interest has been very Œhotı. Thanks for all the fantastic comments and response coming back about the new album,.. it's a goodie!!!

³CHANGES² - FIRST REVIEWS:- are starting to come in,.. the first comes from Australiaıs biggest CM Magazine ³Cap News²,Š if you can do reviews in high profile print media contact me and Iıll get you some information.

³CHANGES² - Artist Karen Lynne
What a pearler of an album from Karen Lynne. Amidst her excellent solo albums we have already caught her bluegrass influences with the ŒBlue Mountain Rainı album from Karen and (Sydney band) ŒAcoustic Shockı, but this new release takes the talented Karen to a new dimension. Superbly produced by Rod Mc Cormack and Herm Kovac, this is a truly international album in the class of Alison Krauss and Rhonda Vincent. Crystalline vocals from Karen and a wonderful song selection ranging from traditional bluegrass offerrings like ³Roses in the Snow² to more contemporary ballads like ³The Healing Kind² create a blend that is beautifully balanced. The backing musicians are perfectly complementary to the music - Rod on guitar, Ian Simpson (banjo), James Gillard (Double Bass), Michel Rose (Dobro), Trev Warner (Mandolin) and Mick Albeck (fiddles), are as good as it gets, and Rod and Jamesı harmonies are seamless. On an album as complete as this, picking highlights is very difficult, but the first radio single ŒThe Circle is Small² is special, as is ³We should only have time for love². If you buy only one album this year, put this on the short list.
Rick Jenner - Capital Country News, February 2006

VIDEO CLIP PROGESS:- Thanks for those who enjoyed the video clip,.. was hoping to kick the new album off with another one, however the Œglowı of pregnancy doesnıt always come through on film! (and donıt they say TV adds 5 kilos to you anyhow!??). Of course If you have access to the internet and a spare minute, you can still help get the ³Second Wind² clip played,.. just log on to ³http://www.countrymusicchannel.com.au² and go the the Œrequestsı button and request it.

SECOND WIND FINAL SINGLE REACHES Top 20: - Although it struggled a bit initially the final single for ³Second Wind² did notch up a Top 20,.. thanks to all the Djs that gave the song a spin on their programs,.. much appreciated.

ALBUMS UPDATE:- It has been pretty busy lately so most of the work on the upcoming album front has paused for a while but in brief there is a Gospel album we are working on and it will hopefully once again feature our friends from ³Acoustic Shock² Bluegrass band. Progress is slow, but continues on the new Collaboration album with Country/Folk duo partner Pat Drummond. This album has been stalled a number of times in the last year but should resume soon. The Country album is still in the pre-production phase, as is my collaboration project with my singer/bass player sister Liz Frencham, we will be putting both together slowly.

GIG & OTHER NEWS:- Thanks for all the support over the past few months, I started the year off badly with a dose of the flu but have been relatively happy and healthy ever since!. We had a lovely start to the year at the Gulgong Folk Festival,.. although you notice 42 degrees a lot more when you are pregnant! Thanks to all who came to the gigs in Tamworth and supported us there!,.. sorry that some had problems finding the ³Cricket Club² venue,.. and as a veteran of 20 years at Tamworth now I was surprised it was so neatly hidden!,... next year Iıll include a map. The launch was wonderful but it was also great to have Acoustic Shock join me for a couple of gigs on the last festival weekend. Thanks to Andrew Clermont for allowing us to share his Bluegrass show,.. that one was a really enjoyable evening. thanks once again to those that came out to see myself and Pat do a duo show at the Golf club, I know a lot of people had actually left town by then, but those that could come did and we appreciated it.

February was a real ŒMonth of Bluegrassı for me as I took the chance to do as many gigs as I could before my maternity leave. We thank Bob Howe for a spot at the Canterbury Country show and as usual there was a great roll-up,.. thanks to all those who braved the Bluegrass Cruise, being the first time I had ever done that gig the format was a bit unknown and I felt a little disorganised, but if we do that one again Iım sure weıll sort those things out. Thanks to Maureen Spicer who organised it and put so much work into making it happen & raising money for charity. We had a lovely time up at Harrigans Pub, it was the perfect venue for what myself and Pat do and to be treated so well by the venue was a real treat. I hope the venue continues to run with country music and if you live in the Hunter area GO to one of the shows there, they are lovely. Also to the Djs at Wow Fm who helped put on their station fundraiser in February, I know there were some who were surprised I took up a little acoustic format instead of singing straight country but there was plenty of country music on the program so our set was a nice change.

Good to meet so many of you at the Rooty Hill RSL Festival,.. we had a ball despite a lower turnout than expected, thanks should still go to Frank Ifield who put so much work into that one and considering he only had a window of about 6 weeks to organise it, I think he did pretty well! Hopefully next years festival will run as planned and wonıt suffer from the long-term advertising period that was unable to be taken advantage of this year. Thanks especially to those who came along to Rooty Hill club lounge for the Bluegrass gig,.. it was part of the festival (although in a different venue) and I think most of those in the club had never seen bluegrass before,.. it was a real Œeducationı and we had a lot of fun teaching them. My last trip away was a quick trip up the coast with Pat for a gig at the Central Coast CM Festival,.. thanks to those who came along to Bateau Bay Bowlo, it was certainly a difficult venue for a Œsinger/songwriter showı as the audience were definately expecting country covers but hey, we just did what we do and I think many were pleasantly surprised,.. if not just Œsurprised!. I was also lucky enough to have the chance to Œfill-inı at the Blue Mountins Folk Festival with Pat for a spot.

THANKS: To everyone who has come to the gigs lately, I wonıt see you at gigs for a little while but all the more reason to keep in touch with me by email & post. Thanks to Carolyn for the used padded bags,.. VERY much appreciated when postage costs are so high! Thanks also to Col, Peter, Kevin, Bill, Johnny, Mike, Helen, Frankie, Nick, Tony, John, Ray, Norm, Carolyne, Tubby, Terry & Pauline, Annie, Mike, Joanne, John and Jeanie for the opportunity to chat with you on air about the new album!!,.. hopefully Iıll be talking to many more of you soon.

My secondary email address "Karenlyn@lisp.com.au" has ceased to exist as of 31st January 2006, if you have it on your address book, please delete it and replace it with my primary one (which is possibly the one you have always used?) which is KarenLynne@bigpond.com

For all those who did find out about Œbub-to-beı early,.. thanks from Marty & myself for all the congrats!,.. and also for all those whoıve passed on their concerns and well wishes to Marty after hearing the news about the huge job losses that will occur at Qantas over the next few months and how they will affect him. I think we will survive no matter what life throws at us,Š I guess it will be just another one of those ³Changes² thatıs been heading our way for a while!

Anyway,.. not much else to say, .. out of sight is not out of mind!!! so donıt forget to drop me a line, it would be lovely to hear from you!
Lots of Love,..
Karen Lynne

IMPORTANT NOTE! - From April 2006 Karen will be officially on ³Maternity Leave² for approximately 4-6 months. Iım sure there will be gigs spots and guest appearances that will happen during that time but these wonıt be advertised as Œofficialı and therefore the best way to find these out is to simply email her and catch up with any happening events, watch the web page gig guide or email her to send all the updated information that way.

"Congratulations, What a stunning album ! Yes, we have been patiently waiting, but it was worth every minute of it. This truly exceeds expectations. From the straight ahead bluegrass to the lovely 'grassy ballads', 14 top shelf trax.! My dilema now ... what track do I play first ? It has heart & soul. It speaks to me of life experiences & passion. It has beautiful voices, used exceedingly well, fine harmonies, top shelf 'acoustic' ",....

"I am certainly enjoying the new album. Congrats to all involved",...

"Your cd is beautiful. So, so lovely. I listened to it all the way home. Rod has truly captured your voice and the whole production is magnificent - just right for you",...

"I am happy to pay the full $25 and after listening to the album last night it is worth ten times that!!. The song selection is great and the backing band doesn't get any better",...

"To say that "Changes" is the best music I have heard for a long time is an understatement. Every song is a pleasure to listen to. Karen Lynne at her best. I can only hope that the rest of the world will now work out what I have known for years........In my humble opinion you are a credit to country music and every home should have this album. I truly hope that this album will bring you the praise you so rightly deserve. I especially love your "original" songs,.."
"It's the best you've done!,..."
"Love the new album. The sound/playing/singing/harmonies is top-class - Rod did a great job - and compares with anything of US origin,..."
All the best
Karen Lynne

MEDIA RELEASE
JANUARY 2006 - NEW BLUEGRASS & ACOUSTIC ALBUM FOR KAREN LYNNE
The dawn of 2006 brings forth at last, the long awaited and eagerly anticipated release from Australian Country, Folk and Bluegrass artist Karen Lynne. The fifth album in her impressive independent catalogue (which includes two collaborative offerings - one with Sydney Bluegrass band ³Acoustic Shock² and the other with singer/songwriter Pat Drummond) it is best described as "Australian Bluegrass & Acoustic" and it will absolutely delight her listeners and expand her fanbase enormously.

Titled ³Changes², it is her third Solo release and is most definitely worth the wait. From the gentleness and acoustic sweetness of the opening ballad ³We Should Only Have Time for Love², to the power and strength of the opposing uptempo traditional bluegrass tracks such as ³Jealous², to the traditional acoustic and almost Œfolkyı feel of Phil Ochsı ³Changes², you know that this album is very different and there is something very special happening here.

This album is a much more contemporary bluegrass album than her previous straight traditional bluegrass album "Blue Mountain Rain" - which achieved 3 chart hits, no less than 9 Award Nominations and an award win for ³Best Independent Release² and whilst most definitely Bluegrass, this project ventures much deeper into the realms of the sound we expect and love from the more contemporary bluegrass artists - such as Alison Krauss, who have constantly pushed the boundaries of traditional bluegrass in recent years. There are 14 tracks comprising a good balance of tempos from sweet acoustic ballads to strong uptempo traditional bluegrass songs and as usual, it contains a couple of songs from Karenıs own hand. Both originals are co-writes, this time with previous collaborator Heather Field and also with Richard Porteous.

It is beautifully packaged and combines exceptional production along with Australia's 'A Team' of Bluegrass pickers - Ian Simpson (banjo), Mick Albeck (Fiddle), James Gillard (Double Bass), Trev Warner (Mandolin) and Rod McCormack (Guitar) and it is also the first ever collaborative project from two of Australia's best producers - Rod McCormack & Herm Kovac.

It will easily follow in the successful footsteps of her last release - a country album "Second Wind", which was released in 2003 and which was a return to a more contemporary Country Music format. In addition to the many rave reviews and Top 10 Chart success for a number of singles both in Australia and overseas, "Second Wind" has now received no less than 11 Final Award Nominations nationally and two Major Country Music Awards.

It has been seven years now since the release of her debut album ³Labour of Love² which contained three chart hits and which landed her the first of many Australian Country Music & other Award Nominations and since then Karen has continued to gain tremendous admiration from broadcasters and fans alike. This album is special and shows yet another side of this superb vocalist who delights in taking us by surprise with her everchanging style.

Karenıs amazing vocal ability and her very individual approach to even those tracks we may have heard from other artists, make this album an absolute treat. ³Changes² will continue to expand and consolidate her listenership enormously. It is a beautiful piece of work and is an album destined to be noticed in the coming year.

CHRISTMAS WISHES
DELAYED DEBUT VIDEO CLIP RELEASE
SECOND WIND SINGLE RELEASE No.5 PROGRESS REPORT
NEW ALBUM "CHANGES" - OFFICIAL RELEASE JANUARY 2006

Hello to you all,.. Well it’s that time again as December rolls around once more.. Please accept our Christmas greetings at the top of this newsletter, I would love to send you all real cards but as i have over 500 friends that keep contact with me about my music etc, that alone would send me broke!,.. Merry Christmas to you all!!,.. my, what a whirlwind of a year it has been for me! For us it’s been a good one & I have really enjoyed it. I know however, that it may not have been such a good year for everyone and if that’s the case then I wish you a mighty fine 2006!. Take some time to relax over the next few weeks. Christmas seems to come and go so quickly these days it’s important that we make the most of the time we have,.. and while it’s always nice to indulge in some treats and get pressies, I like to think Christmas is a time when we can catch up with friends and family we haven’t seen for a while and that’s what I intend to do. Whichever way you spend it, relax, enjoy and gear up for 2006 as it will hold much in store for us I know.

DELAYED DEBUT VIDEO CLIP RELEASE: - Well,.. for those who haven‚t yet seen the video clip,.. don't despair, it hasn‚t been rejected as far as I know!,.. just taken a while to get it into the final required format to be played on Country Music Channel. If all goes well you should see it in a few weeks. If you have access to the internet and a spare minute there is something you can do for me. Please log on to http://www.countrymusicchannel.com.au  and go the the 'requests'‚ button and request the clip to be played. The song is called "Second Wind" and the more requests we get for it will mean the more airplay it will get and thats what is most crucial with a first clip such as this one.

SECOND WIND SINGLE RELEASE No.5 PROGRESS REPORT: - The fifth single from the "Second Wind" has been released on NFS 100, so please help it on it's way. It's struggling for airplay at the moment so please give it a spin if you can. Unfortunately it is a busy time to release a single what with a whole pile off amazing singles coming out to promote the many upcoming new year releases but this single - along with the video clip will be the last bit of frontline promotion for the "Second Wind" album which has been such a great album for me. As with all artists, there comes a time we must move on to a new album and leave the previous one behind and it is such a strange feeling as it has been such a friend‚ to me, but the time has come!. As usual, anyone not having the albums can get them direct from me,.. we have a very cheap Media price of A$10 ($5 Euro, Kroner or US $5) if your funds stretch that far?,... if not, then contact me anyhow!!!!! ,... and I'll organise something in order for you to receive the album also!

NEW ALBUM "CHANGES": - OFFICIAL RELEASE JANUARY 2006: - It's official!,... after a very long 3 year wait, January 2006 brings forth the fifth album release from my growing catelogue, a stunning Bluegrass & Acoustic style solo album titled "Changes" As with every artist, our goal is to try and make each album better than the last and I thought following "Second Wind" was going to be a tough one, but I think we‚ve done it!. I have always loved bluegrass and I wanted this album to have the beautiful bluegrass flavour of my previous collaboration album "Blue Mountain Rain" but I also wanted it to stretch the bluegrass boundaries to try and capture the gorgeous contemporary gentler, acoustic sound you hear in the more modern bluegrass music such as the 'Alison Krauss sound'. I think we've achieved that really well,... it's very different and very beautiful and I think (hope!??) you are all going to love it!. It is a complete solo album this time,.. and that was a decision I made because as much as I love working & recording with 'Acoustic Shock', they have their own - very distinct, special sound and I didn't want them to have to compromise it - in order to get the sound I wanted for this album.

As with all my albums, every one of them has been a little different from the previous one,.. each testing the boundaries of the music I call mine,.. this album is no different and I'm proud to release it as mine. It's most definitely Bluegrass and has some fantastically strong toe tapping traditional sounding songs on it but spread between those are a number of beautiful acoustic ballads that will quite simply 'tear your heart out'‚!. It's sound is BIG, but gentle, STRONG but soft,.. in fact, it's really hard for me to believe it's actually me! This album also delivers a first for the industry, being the first joint project ever worked on by well known Australian producers Rod McCormack & Herm Kovac. I can't remember exactly how that happened, and why my project was chosen, but it was a great experience and in the process has created a true jewel. Called "Changes"- because there have been so many big changes in my life in the years since the last album (some of which will become very apparent over the next six months!) and I believe the sound of and confidence behind this album are truly a reflection of many of those things. Change happens to us all and isn't always welcomed, but I believe it's our response to change - even the simple things like growing older, that makes us better people.

Of course, it will be out in early January and if you would like to get one 'hot off the press'‚ please drop me an order anytime between now and then. As always, I'd appreciate $10 - or any small token to help cover postage etc as this was most certainly my most expensive project to date but I believe you won't be disappointed!,. (of course, if you are then there is always a money back guarantee!) The first single will be released in February 2006 and hopefully my radio friends will love it enough to give it some airtime and perhaps a live chat sometime in the new year,.. more on that next time!

NEW ALBUMS UPDATE: - Not much to say here this time,.. except for those of you who were hoping to hear the wonderful music of Jim, Marty, Nigel and Quentin from "Acoustic Shock" Bluegrass band on the new album,.. don't fret as they'll all be joining us on our Gospel album in 2006. Progress is slow, but continues on the new Collaboration album with Country/Folk duo partner Pat Drummond. This album has been stalled a number of times this year but should resume soon. I should add here that Pat has actually been busy working on his long-awaited kids album and that should also be released next year if all goes well. The Country album is still in the pre-production phase (the most difficult phase!), as is my collaboration project with my singer/bass player sister Liz Frencham, we will be putting both together slowly. I am planning to have a 'more time at home' year next year so I will have more time to work on such things. All exciting so keep in touch!!

GIG & OTHER NEWS: - I think I caught up about most gigs & travels that occurred up until our big trip and following that we took some time out to have a real holiday which was just what we needed to really wind down after such an experience. The gigs didn't get going again really till September so it was a really good break. It was good to catch up with Mike and Diane & friends from the south coast at the 'Songbird Cafe', I know originally the organisers weren't expecting to get the whole band at that gig but sometimes it just happens and we are very thankful!!. It was also wonderful to receive such a wonderful reception at my first appearance for the Blacktown Country Music Club. I have known the club was there for a while, but wasn't really well informed about the meetings etc and therefore their invitation for me to perform at one of their shows was a real honour. I met some lovely people on the day and hope to be back there performing soon. It was nice to be back up in the Hunter Valley performing again. Sorry to those who couldn't come to the winery gig but note that myself and Pat will be back there at a new country music venue called 'Harrigans Pub' in February, so please come out and support that one. October also gave us our first performance at the Tooleybuc Murray Muster Festival and what fun we had!! We understand that as an act we were quite different to the bulk of the performers who were singing covered, better known material, but it seemed that after the shock wore off, the crowd didn't seem to mind at all! We met a bunch of lovely people and we hope to be invited back another year!

Over the coming months please keep an eye out for us in Tamworth - I know it's a busy time but don't forget us!,.. unfortunately it's getting more expensive to be there every year I go and venues for shows are very hard to find. I will be doing two full concert shows with Pat Drummond and one with Acoustic Shock Bluegrass Band - unfortunately they are all $10 ticketed shows but the expense of the venues & PA systems etc have made that a fact of life. It would be nice to say we are making some money,.. but alas, we are hoping to simply cover costs and for that reason please support one of the shows if you can,... besides you will enjoy yourself!. I've had to make a decision to include my Album launch as part of the "Bluegrass Spectacular" at Tamworth because the venues were charging too much to hire singularly. Again I'm sorry, as I know this means some of you will think twice before you come, but know it will be a fantastic show - with not only hearing my new album launched with some of the best musicians in bluegrass,.. but you'll get to hear Rod & Geoff McCormack & their friends presenting another great set of bluegrass music along with special guest appearances from Gina Jeffreys and Kasey Chambers,.. believe me,.. it will be worth every cent of your $12,.. so please give it a go!

For all my friends in Sydney please note that Acoustic Shock and I will be getting together and performing firstly at my Sydney Launch - which will be as part of Bob Howe's wonderful Canterbury Country Show in February, and also on a wonderful Sydney Harbour Cruise in February so please come along and support it. It will be the first cruise supporting bluegrass music so we need your support for this one. The price is not a 'cheapie'‚ I know,.. but to get the cruise, great music and a lovely smorgasboard lunch etc,.. it's a pretty worthwhile day out.

THANKS:- To everyone who has come to the gigs lately especially Smithfield RSL which had a fine roll up!,... to all those who supported the fundraiser for the kids hospital at Penrith and to Bill, Yvonne, John, Maureen, Charlie, Barb, Daryl & Helen for the interviews,.. hopefully I'll be talking to many more of you soon.

Anyway,.. not much else to say, have a lovely Christmas!,.. hoping to see lots of you at Tamworth and if not,.. drop me a line, it would be lovely to hear from you!
Lots of Love,..
Karen Lynne

SUCCESSFUL UK/EUROPEAN TOUR, NEW SINGLE & VIDEO RELEASE FOR
AUSTRALIAN ARTIST KAREN LYNNE
2005 has been a busy year for Karen Lynne, one that will be remembered for covering much new ground. Fresh from a 5 week European & UK tour that included performances in Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, England and Wales - with Sydney Bluegrass band ³Acoustic Shock² she is now back in business preparing for her newest product release.

Audience response from all performances were excellent, with encores given on every show and even a standing ovation given in Norway. Tour highlights included playing support to top US Bluegrass artist Ricky Skaggs & his amazing band, Kentucky Thunder at the ŒNorsk Country Treffı Festival in Breim (Norway) and being selected to perform at the prestigious North Wales Country Music Festival (Wales) in place of Billy Jo Spears whose appearances were cancelled due to ill health. This would be the first tour of this magnitude, in these regions for any Australian Bluegrass act.

On her return home, she continues preparing for the release of her second Bluegrass album - this time a solo effort, early in 2006. Meanwhile she is to see the year out with the release of the fifth single from her highly acclaimed independent Country album ³Second Wind², this time teaming it with her very first Video clip. The single, penned by Claire Lynch is the title track of ³Second Wind² and is a decidedly bluegrass flavoured track that looks at reinvigorating lost dreams and taking hold of precious second chances, something we all need to do at times in life. Produced by Herm Kovac, the song ³Second Wind" is the fifth single release from this outstanding 11 times nominated album and is almost sure to take a place on the Australian Country Music Chart as all four previous singles have done so far - three of them reaching the Top 10.

Karen has now released 4 quality albums, received a total of 27 high profile Award Nominations (this includes 5 in the Australian Country Music "Golden Guitar" Awards) and has achieved 3 major Awards wins including 'Australian Independent Female Vocalist Of The Year' (Australian Independent Country Music Awards) and the ³Bluegrass & Traditional Country² Award (VIC & National Country Music Awards). She has toured widely both nationally & internationally and continues to demonstrate her dedication, consistency & proven ability in the Australian Country Music Industry

NEW ALBUMS UPDATE
THANKS

Hi Everyone!,... Hope you havenıt given me up for dead??,... What a year this has been!,.. not so much in forthcoming product I agree, but one of the biggest for covering ground. Since the dawn of the year I can say that I have actually been to every Australian state except NT,.. and 6 overseas countries as well,.. not a bad effort, hey! (... although the SA visit was more for some rest and relaxation than actual work,.. but I still got there!). So, now where does one start?,... so much to tell! Hope you are all well and life is just humming along,.. As usual Iım apologising for not getting in touch with you all as regularly as I would like, but time has been hard to find lately.

SUCCESSFUL EUROPE/UK TOUR - INCLUDING
RICKY SKAGGS & KENTUCKY THUNDER SUPPORT: -
After many long months of planning we are proud to announce the great success of our 5 week tour in Europe and Britain for Sydney bluegrass band "Acoustic Shock" & myself.   Whilst I have crossed the big pond a couple of time previously to work in England as a solo act, this was the first time weıve taken a full band and covered so many countries. The trip was in short a great success and proved to me more than anything else I have ever done that there is a huge wonderful welcoming audience who - unrestrained by the invisible (pecking order) in Australiaıs Country Music Industry, appreciate great music just because it's great music and not because of who you are. The tour proved to be a much larger event that I ever imagined,... I possibly even bit off a little more than I would usually chew, but what's that they say,.. 'Bite off more than you can chew,... then chew it!,.. plan more than you can do,... then do it!,.. Take on more than you can bear, then bear it,.. plan your castle in the air and then build a ship to take you there,... well,.. actually we took a plane, but the result is the same, it was a mammoth achievement and something we won't forget in a very long time.

Most amazingly it went off with very few problems really,.. the only casualties being Nigel's lost camcorder, my lost earring, a few bruises for Liz and one of our UK gigs being quite rudely cancelled at very short notice,... however that was pretty good considering the things we did and the miles we covered. We did start out thinking the trip was doomed for failure when on arrival in London, Marty's banjo & it's neck seemed to have been separated!!,.. (yes, literally!),.. but this story luckily had a happy ending. After breaking a banjo neck while flying back from Brisbane 3 days before, Marty had to resort to taking his spare' banjo (of course everyone has one,.. dont you??), however to prevent any similar accidents on such a long flight he temporarily disassembled the banjo for safety, flying it in two parcels. Of course the worse case scenario was that the airline would lose one of the parcels and true to form - they did!,.. which made one very unhappy Marty for the first few days!!! At last it finally arrived after doing a world tour on it's own,.. calm and happiness then descended and we had nothing but great gigs, met great people and enjoyed loads of great sightseeing.  Wow!,... it was such a great trip we are still enjoying the memories!,.. can't quite believe it really happened,.. it seems like a weird & wonderful dream! We saw so much!, the whole trip was great - every gig just got better and better,... encores every time!,.. even a standing ovation in Norway!,.. and the highlight you ask?,.. I guess it had to be standing next to Ricky Skaggs singing "Will the circle be unbroken ",... he even threw to me for a verse!! (pity I couldn't think of another one!)

Briefly we started in Denmark and did a number of great gigs there including a wonderful festival in Skagan which is a beautiful fishing village - wonderful place for sightseeing too! - and that's a good thing too, cause it only gets dark for a couple of hours a day so you really may as well make the most of such long days. We then travelled to Germany and performed there and then after some time spent taking in the beautiful Southern German towns & their architecture we headed off to the Bavarian Alps,... where the views were nothing short of magnificent!. Then it was back on the Autobarn and off to the Netherlands to perform next (and when you're driving at 150kms in the slow lane it can be quite a quick trip!). On arrival in Holland we took the opportunity to look around Rotterdam & Amsterdam - a very interesting place!,.. (and yes,... those stories you hear about are all true!) and then off to a wonderful concert with Billy Yates, before flying off to the stunning mountains of Norway for a festival to die for!!! where we experienced the highlight of the trip - playing support to "Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder". This was a 4 day trip never to be forgotten, not only for the amazingly beautiful scenery (like nothing weıd ever seen),.. but for the chance to play to such an appreciative audience and then to sit back and watch Bluegrass at it's best (from Ricky and the band!). Of course we also got a great kick out of meeting them and for the boys to have a late night pick with them,.. what can I say,.. it couldnıt get any better than that! Then it was back to England for a number of gigs there - including the amazing Wolvestock Festival where the linedancing goes on rain, hail or shine!!?,... (we're still not sure whether that's actually a good thing,.. but each to his own we say!!!),.. and a fabulous finale at the "North Wales Country Music Festival" where we played in place of Billy Jo Spears who had unfortunately been taken ill. It was certainly a great experience and we met many wonderful people and collected many great memories we wonıt forget in a long time!

Of course with the new single coming out, I would love to take the opportunity to have a live chat with all of my radio friends and journalists about our adventures so please consider this as an invitation from me to talk about it all, anytime soon. A brief but special thanks to the DJs - Bjarne & Kathy, Hanner & Ole, Freidrich, Jorgen, Remi and Bart, Marie, John, Alan,.. the Gig & Venue organisers - Dave, Peter and the folks from "Friends Kotz", Peer, Cor, Alan, Jim, Jon, Richard, Les,.... Eberhard, Monika & David, for the much needed beds for our weary heads,... to our tourguides including, Fran, Monika, Lauraine & Deiter,.. and lastly to Billy Yates, Joni Harms, Mandy Strobel, Ken & Barbie (Texana) who shared the shows with us during the trip. Of course forgive me if I've forgotten someone,.. headıs still spinning!

TOP 10 CHART SUCCESS FOR ³HEART OF A HEARTACHE²: - Firstly I would like to thank all my Radio Presenter friends for supporting the last Australian single "Heart of a Heartache". I didnıt think it would get much notice with me being out of the country and all, but I was very wrong. It received some very strong airplay and reached Number 4 on the Australian Country Music chart.

FIFTH AUSTRALIAN "SECOND WIND² SINGLE RELEASED: - It is also time for another single from the "Second Wind" album, this will very likely be the final single release for this album and I'd love it to do well on the charts also. It's about to be released in Australia on NFS 100, so please help it on it's way. I'll be teaming it with a Country Music Video clip, so please give the clip a little plug as well to all those who have Country Music TV.

FIRST VIDEO CLIP RELEASE: - Yep!, I never thought there'd come a day when I would find the confidence to actually do it, but I've done it. Iıve never really considered myself (video clip) material,.. but it seems that it has become (standard) procedure for Country Music artists, pretty well expected of all the signed acts and high profile independents. I hope you'll enjoy it - and when you see it, ... let me know what you think (be gentle,.. I'm new to all this technical stuff!). The track will be the title track - "Second Wind" and will be released together with the radio single to give it a boost,... it's such a big step for me,.. I never thought I would see the day!

WORLD SINGLE RELEASE FOR BLUE MOUNTAIN RAIN SINGLES: - Due to the tour we also thought it would be a good opportunity to try a world release for a couple of songs from the "Blue Mountain Rain" album being that we were taking Australian Bluegrass to the world. Self penned track "This Ring" was released along with a slower track, the lovely old Hank Lochlan track "Send me the pillow that you dream on" - to the world radio market in July and both singles did very well receiving lots of great airplay. I wasnıt here to keep track of how "Send me the Pillow" went on the charts but I was informed that "This Ring" made it to the Top 5 on the UK/Europe Hot Disc Chart which was great and hopefully motivated some people to come along to our shows and hear the live version. Thank you to all my DJ friends who gave the songs some airplay,.. hope to have a new CD for you all soon,...

NEW ALBUMS UPDATE: - The biggest mystery of the year seems to be whatıs happened to my solo Bluegrass album?,.. well, I am happy to say that after a few severe hitches,... it is back on track and I am really working hard to ensure that it will be released in early 2006, sorry for the wait!.,.. I hope it will be worth it. Recording continues on the new Collaboration album with Country/Folk duo partner Pat Drummond. This album also stalled due to both myself, Pat and our bass player not been available for sessions but I'm hopeful that the final bed tracks will be finalised before the end of the year. . The Country album is still in the pre-production phase (the most difficult phase!) and it will take some time, however, if all goes well, our planned Gospel Bluegrass album will start in the studio soon. I'm also working on a collaboration project with my singer/bass player sister Liz Frencham, which we will be putting together slowly. Liz and I have both been into music for many years although our tastes have been in slightly different, yet intercepting segments of the musical spectrum. While my music crosses the Country, Folk & Bluegrass genres, hers crosses the Jazz, Folk & Acoustic Pop genres, but we discovered that after spending time on the recent tour together (when she joined us as Acoustic Shock's bass player), and each being singer/songwriters,... there was a lot of common ground about what we do and love. There are also a lot of DJ and Media friends out there who know us both and who have commented to me over the years that we should consider a collaboration project and so we've decided to do it also, it will take a little while but will happen.

GIG & OTHER NEWS: - I have given you a good write up on the overseas trip in the earlier part of the update, so I thought I should go back and mention some of the other good gigs that have happened over the last few months. Firstly a really good trip to WA in April gave us the chance to meet up with a bunch of new Djs, organisers and supporters,.. it was a great opportunity to continue our gradually increasing profile in that part of Australia. It was also a lot of fun to be working with wonderful; bush poets Rod and Kerry Lee and also their talented singer/songwriter son Dave. On this trip we also had the extra pleasure of gigging for the WA Folk Federation & going to Albany - a place where Iıd never worked before to perform, some of these gigs with wonderful bush poet Peter Blythe which was a real treat. Then it was back to NSW and down to the South Coast where I was invited to sing at the SCCMA Festival. Due to illness I missed out last year, so it was really nice to finally make a contribution to their show. From there it was down to beautiful Mt Beauty to play some Bluegrass with Acoustic Shock and all was fine until the day before the gig when Jim, our guitarist rang to say he was being hospitalised for a nasty little kidney stone and he didn't think he'd make the gig!. Luckily we have a pretty versatile bunch of players and we ended up doing all the shows as a four piece, well done guys, that was hard work!.

May took us to Victoria and a chance to do some gigs with Merelyn & David Carter. Thanks to all those supporters who came along. The double-act worked really well and lots of people commented on what a great show we presented. Sorry for the problems we encountered for those who attended the gig at the Cornish Arms, unfortunately some gigs are'difficult' to say the least but I think we did a good job regardless of the difficult circumstances. Then it was out to western NSW to entertain at the Moree Trade Fair,... & where I 'saved the day' and did almost the entire days gig on my own when Pat was stricken with a nasty dose of food poisoning which kept him bedridden for a good day,.. was scary, but kinda nice to do all those old songs I haven't sung for a while!. June took us to QLD and although just a flying visit, we had a really enjoyable day at the Kalbar show which included seeing a rare performance from Chad Morgan - who still manages to get a great response from the crowd! and then a spot at the Boonah Country Music Club which was excellent also. Then it was back home to prepare for our big ocean hop.

SERVICE AWARD FROM THE SOUTH COAST COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION: - It seems that just when I was least expecting to receive any Awards, cause I haven't had any new product out for a while,.. I had the great honour of receiving a special "Service Award" from the SCCMA. I grew up in this CM Association and spent many years active on committees, helping organising shows and events, raising money etc. while I lived on the south coast. I also put together a documented history of the Association for it's 30 year Anniversary, which was a really big job. Since moving to the Blue Mountains, I have not been able to remain as active but have kept my membership with the club and try to help where I can. Not being so active these days I was therefore very humbled and proud to receive such a token of recognition for the contributions I'd made over the years,.. thankyou to everyone involved.

THANKS: - To all the DJs that took the time out and made the effort to come and see one of our gigs both in Australia and UK/Europe (especially to the overseas based ones). It was lovely to meet you all,.. and impressed me greatly that you bothered. I only wish I had that new album out so I could give you a real thankyou gift, but it will be out soon and I won't forget. Thanks to all the organisers who assisted us in WA with our gigs in April, especially Rod and Kerry. We also got the chance to put on a show for the WA Folk Federation, so special thanks to Carmel, Megan and all those who made that happen. We had a fantastic time and met a lot of new wonderful people. Thanks once again to my DJ friends in WA who let us have some radio time - Derek, Megan, Sherryl, Geoff, John, Keith, Jean, Brendon, it was really nice to chat to you all again.. thanks also to Rod, Kerry, Peter & Jill who lent us beds for the trip. Thanks also to Pat who didn't forget my birthday for once and made up for previous oversights by not only remembering but marking the occasion with the biggest chocolate cake you could ever imagine!!,.. so if I've gained a couple of kilos next time we meet, you can blame him!.

Thanks to Rolo and the Mt Beauty Festival Committee, a great little festival once again. Thanks again to all the other DJ friends who supported the gigs over the months - especially Maureen & Don who turned up at Crawdaddys. Also to all our Victorian DJ friends to whom we caught up with while performing there, or whom took the time to give us interview airtime, including all those from Country Fm and also Ray, Big Al, Andy, Jaydee, Geoff, Trudy, Pam, Jacey, Peter, Tony & Brian and also,.. Merelyn, David , Rick and Di Banfield for the Accommodation. Thanks to Sue for all her assistance in getting us up to Qld,.. & Robyn and all those from the Boonah CM club,.. I realised just how long itıs been since we've toured up there,.. so I'm going to make a real effort to get up there again soon.

Well this Media Update is long overdue, I can't believe I haven't been able to write to you since last April,.. but please forgive me. I think I have a good excuse this time. Of course with the new single, video clip and the overseas trip, I have absolutely HEAPS to talk about so I would welcome the chance to have a phone chat with any or all of my DJ and Journalist friends. I'll be trying to contact many of you over the next few months to catch up because itıs been so long, so if you can give me a few minutes of your time for a chat that will be appreciated. Also not so many gigs on the gig guide this month but thatıs just cause I've been out of the loop for a little while,.. but don't worry, the list should fatten itself up a bit over the next few months.
Lots of Love,..

FOURTH AUSTRALIAN ³SECOND WIND² SINGLE RELEASED
NEW ALBUMS UPDATE
 NEWS
Greetings again!,... hope you are happy & healthy and the year has started well for you all. Christmas does seem so far away now doesnıt it!. As for me, I usually struggle through the Christmas madness then reward myself with 3-4 weeks of rest and relaxation in january as itıs a quiet time for gigs until I resume work at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Itıs always been a welcome way to start the year, a time to rejuvenate, catch up and then organise the year ahead. Unfortunately it didnıt happen this year!,.. from New years eve we went to Gulgong for their festival,.. then down to Tasmania,.. then straight to Tamworth without a break!. Suddenly there I was and it was February and I was feeling anything but rejuvenated or organised, but hey,... it was fun!

I have tried to spend a few weeks in February to catch up,... but suddenly all the new year projects are demanding attention,.. so if you havenıt heard from me for a while,.. or I owe you something,.. donıt worry, it may take a little longer,.. but it will happen. Anyway,.. not a lot to tell you this update,.. just a quick catch up,.. no awards or anything lately as I havenıt had new product for a while,.. but rest assured I intend to make up for that soon, in a big way!

FOURTH AUSTRALIAN ³SECOND WIND² SINGLE RELEASED - Yep,.. time for another single from my ³Second Wind² album that has done so well since itıs release,.. this time a little uptempo track ³Heart of a Heartache²,.. released in Australia on the latest NFS 94. To all my radio presenter friends, please give it a spin if you can over the next few months as all 3 singles so far from ³Second Wind² have charted and it would be nice to get this one up there too.

NEW ALBUMS UPDATE -With Rod McCormack confirmed as producer for the new solo Bluegrass album, production on it continues slowly. Itıs due for release in June, and only time will tell if we can achieve that,.. but Iım certainly going to try. Recording continues on the new Collaboration album with Country/Folk duo partner Pat Drummond. This album is going down well,.. although thereıs a little delay happening here as our bass player has run off to Vietnam for a few months!,.... but work will resume as soon as possible. The Country album is still in the pre-production phase (the most difficult phase!) but our new Gospel Bluegrass album (did I tell you about that one??),.. is about to kick into gear also. If all goes well it will feature once again lots of the talented guys in Acoustic Shock ,... (and a few more!) and will be filled with a lot of old gospel standards many of you will know.

UK & EUROPE TOUR FOR BLUEGRASS BAND - Work continues on the tour,.. certainly one of my Œmore ambitious projectsı to date,... but even with all the accolades our Bluegrass album ³Blue Mountain Rain² received, letıs face it, it did little to scratch the surface of the glass ceiling between us ŒIndiesı and the Australian Country Music Industry Œmovers & shakersı so it seems more sensible to expand our market. Weıll be touring with a small bluegrass format in UK & Europe in July 2005. It will be a great chance to take Australian Bluegrass to other parts of the world, and we hope to meet many of my media friends from across the waters (and do some sight seeing as well!)

THANKS - this month to all the organisers of the Gulgong, Tamar Valley and Cobargo Folk Festivals, we had a fantastic time and met a lot of new wonderful people. Thanks to those who came along to the New Years Eve night,.. it was fun!. Thanks also to Ron, Brian, Joy, Phillip, Tim, Lloyd, Troy, Jack and Alder - all Radio Presenters from Tassie that made us feel so welcome (sorry if I missed someone!),... and to all those from Radio 7THE, 92.1 Fm for putting on a great gig!,.. to Hank & Donna Koopman & sister Shirley and Neil who let a weary party of three make themselves at home on their doorstep!,.. Mike and Gina and the Gulgong festival committee and all the new friends we caught up with up there, also presenter Cosmos for the time for an interview!.

To Andrew Clermont & Sam (& family) for the hard work in putting on the Tamworth poetry breakfasts and allowing us to do some shows,.. (& to Pat Drummond for getting up so early & joining me,.. that WAS asking a lot!),.. to all the radio presenters who came to the shows and say hi!,.. the management of the Tamworth Golf Club and Alandale Motel for letting us use their venues,... to Trev for inviting Marty up to play with him at the Tamworth Bluegrass spectacular,.... Bruce and Pam for the wonderful accommodation and Anna Rose & Gary Coxhead for the articles & interview. Thanks to Brian & Shirleyanne for the wonderful accommodation at Cobargo and to Neil who took the time to say hi there also. To Terry and Jan from Crawdaddyıs and to all who came along to that gig,.. it was a really fun little night and Iım sure weıll be back soon. Thanks also to Sue, Lorraine and Jillian for the assistance at the Mackander Village gig.

GIG & OTHER NEWS - Otherwise, the good news is a return visit to WA & VIC, then across the (really) big pond in July to Europe. Hopefully weıll meet some of our new friends from our recent tours,.. so please support our shows if you can!,...
Lots of Love,.. Karen Lynne

NEW SINGLE RELEASE FOR KAREN LYNNE - "HEART OF A HEARTACHE"
With the commencement of a bright new year comes the latest single for Karen Lynne. The song "Heart of a Heartache" is the fourth track to be released from Karen's outstanding 11 times nominated "Second Wind" album and is destined for solid airplay and chart success. Produced by Herm Kovac, this album contains fourteen great songs that are both powerful and passionate.

Karen has now personally received a total of 27 high profile Award Nominations (including 5 in the Australian Country Music "Golden Guitar" Awards). In addition to this she has also won 3 major Awards including 'Australian Independent Female Vocalist Of The Year' in the Australian Independent Country Music Awards (2003) and the ³Bluegrass & Traditional Country² Award at the 2004 VIC Country Music Awards all of which demonstrate her dedication, consistency & proven ability in a relatively short professional career.

A Kim Richey/Al Anderson co-write, this song is a great uptempo track that departs a little from her previously more traditional country & acoustic style, but nevertheless demonstrates that she is just as capable singing contemporary country songs and occasionally enjoys the challenge.

Currently she is continuing her touring and promotion of this album and is shortly to return to the recording studio and begin work on the newest project, a follow up Bluegrass album to repeat the success of the Award winning "Blue Mountain Rain" collaboration album, release a couple of years ago.
Released to radio on the NFS #94, Australian Country singles series:-

GIG & OTHER NEWS

Hi everyone, I hope Christmas finds you happy and healthy and not too busy. Take a minute to relax & put those Christmas trees up & perhaps a few fairy lights on the front porch!,.. it’s time for a bit of peace and quiet,.. and a few moments to review the past year and think about the coming one. I have had an interesting year, one of much soul searching & learning to let go of goals & dreams that are no longer relevant in my life. Fortunately I’ve realised how much the act of holding on to them - keeps us from moving forward, so here’s to letting go, believing in what we can do,... and doing it.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS - Please take a minute to adjust your records and change my Post Office Box number,... It’s only the Box Number that’s been changed - due to the Post Office doing some renovations and installing new boxes, and it’s now “P. O. Box 250” (no longer P. O. Box 1000). Don’t stress if you’ve sent something recently and wonder if it got to me?,... it will, the staff know me well, are friendly & efficient, and certainly will redirect it to my new box.

FOURTH AUSTRALIAN “SECOND WIND” SINGLE OUT EARLY 2005 - The next single from “Second Wind” will be out early in 2005, please look out for it and give it a spin if you can!

BLUEGRASS ALBUM UPDATE - The wheels are churning into high gear at last!. Most tracks have been selected & ready for the studio,... and Rod McCormack has been confirmed as producer. His reputation for great production has indeed been solidified over the past few years, but it’s Rod’s background in Bluegrass that has made him my choice for producer on this project. As most Australians know, he’s a champion Bluegrass banjo player & guitarist, with a long history in Bluegrass music and he’s welcomed this project as something new & exciting for 2005.

NEW COUNTRY ALBUM - ... and while we’re on the subject of new projects, work is about to start also on the next Country album, once again with Herm Kovac at the helm. I think Herm did a fantastic job of producing the last album and giving it such a gorgeous fresh sound,.. we won’t be rushing this one but it will kick off early in 2005 also.

NEW COLLABORATION ALBUM - December also marks the commencement of recording a new Collaboration album with Country/Folk duo partner Pat Drummond. This album will be a mixture of new versions of some of Pat’s earlier recorded material and some totally new material. There are a number of songs I’ve been singing with Pat for ages that were never considered for recording previously because they’d been already released on Pat’s earlier albums. Many fans request the version we sing on stage, so these newer versions will be recorded along with some previously unrecorded story-telling songs,.. please note that it will be produced by me! and be a politic-free zone!

MEDIA TRAVEL LIST - Thank you to everyone who has sent me details,.. it’s going to take me a little while to get all the info into my special database,.. but I think it will make it a lot easier to organise myself while travelling and hopefully enable me to see more of you in person on these trips.

UK & EUROPE TOUR FOR BLUEGRASS BAND - More exciting news as it’s been confirmed that I will be touring with a small bluegrass format in UK & Europe in July 2005. It will be a wonderful chance to take Australian Bluegrass to other parts of the world, especially when there is no formal recognition for this most traditional type of Country Music in Australia. We hope to meet many of my DJ friends and do some sight seeing as well,.... so if any of my overseas friends reading this, know of good venues or gig opportunities let me know immediately.

GIG & OTHER NEWS - Following a nice Christmas break I’ll be joining Pat at the Gulgong Folk Festival for the first time,... and then flying down to Tassie (one of my most favourite places in Australia!) to sing some Bluegrass at the Tamar Valley Folk Festival! I’m told both of these are gorgeous little festivals & they’ll be a nice change in the lead up to the heat & bustle of Tamworth. I will be at tamworth again, however the Awards Schedule changes have meant that many of the gigs previously available to independent artists like myself in the earlier days of the Festival have been taken by the signed acts. With the Tamworth Festival being such an expensive exercise for most indies to support bands etc it means that once again “Karen Lynne & Acoustic Shock” will not be appearing in any official capacity this coming festival (although I don’t doubt there will be a few unofficial appearances here and there,.. so watch out for us!!!). Other festivals booked include Cobargo Folk Festival, a return visit to WA, the Mount Beauty Music Muster (with Acoustic Shock) in April, back down to Victoria in May and then across the (really) big pond in july to Europe!,...

Thanks to all those Media & other friends who gave me such encouragement and support at Mildura,.. it was a real challenge doing a festival totally “solo” (when I’m so used to working with my band &/or Pat Drummond), but it was a really good experience. It was so good to meet up with so many friends and supporters and catch up with many artist friends I haven’t talked to for a while. Congrats go to John Arnold and his team of organisers for a mighty effort, especially the Awards night which was a top concert. I had the pleasure of presenting an Award this year which was a great honour.

It was lovely to get over to Southern & Western Australia recently and meet some wonderful new radio friends and supporters,.... I also attended & performed at the FAA Convention (SA) which was a really enjoyable experience. It was really interesting to be involved and feel like an integral part of the Australian Folk music scene,... met some wonderfully interesting people too! Then it was over to WA for a great few weeks, spending much time with Rod & Kerrie Lee, bush poet extraordinaires! and organisers of the “Diggers Camp”, this years host to the Australian Bush Poetry Championships. It was nice to catch up with Murray, Ray, Marco & Shirley from the Naked Poets and be a part of their shows. Another special treat was being able to perform for the South Coast Country Music Association again. I grew up singing as a member of this Association and the role of these regional Country Music Clubs should never be underestimated. They provide a lot of help to the community along with the encouragement & nurturing of Country Music at a local level.

Special Thanks go to all the Mildura organising committee, Mike, Diane, Ray & the organising committees of the SCCMA and Springwood Folk club,..... my encouragement team at Mildura! (Jeff, Doug, Bob & Noelene, Max & the Hot Fm team,.. (I’m sorry, I don’t have room to name you all!), the many Radio Presenters who have allowed us to come into their studios & chat to their listeners lately,... & to Jeff & Louise, John & Denise Schumann, Rod, Kerrie, Dave & Di Lee, Paul & Maria Duff & Ian Simpson for the Accommodation and hospitality during our travels. Achiever of the year this year though, has got to be Dave Prior - for not only his wine but his amazing ability to conjour up one spectacular Chocolate & Cherry Ripe Mudcake in my hour of need (which was well past midnight I should add!),.. I will be eternally in your debt!. Anyway,... Christmas Greetings to you all,.. have a safe, happy & relaxing Christmas,... I know I will see many of you in Tamworth but please note that I have only a couple of gigs this year, so please support our shows if you can!,... May 2005 be a wonderful year for us all!
Lots of Love,.. Karen Lynne
