“Austin City Limits meets inner western Sydney” …

 A stellar line-up of acts will launch the Lonesome Highway Sessions on Saturday 25^th October at The Bridge Hotel, Rozelle.

Announced today the final line-up is one of the best Sydney has seen: Peter Busher (direct from WA), Leslie Avril (Vic), a very special unplugged performance by Johnny Green, and to open the Sessions The Lurlenes.

Peter Busher is widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest honky tonk singers.  He will travel from Perth especially for the launch.  An outstanding line-up of Australia’s finest musicians will join Peter on the night, Stuart French (guitar), Michele Rose (pedal steel) Michael Vidale (bass), and Doug Gallagher (drums).  He will play tracks from his “Beer Today, Gone Tomorrow” recorded in Austin, Texas.

Southern country belle Leslie Avril will be making a much anticipated return to Sydney to perform at the Sessions.  Leslie makes a room stand still with her Raw, raucous and downright raunchy unforgettable performances.  Her repertoire travels through smoky blues, heartfelt rootsy ballads and a hint of rockabilly.  “Leslie Avril has developed a reputation for delivering her country music with passion and drive, the result being a gutsy sound which isn't readily found among Australian female country singers” (Country Update).  She will be performing songs from her three albums, Champagne and Desolation, Leslie Avril Live, and Cowboy in My Bed.

A highlight of the Sessions will be a very special, one-off acoustic set from the Blues Cowboys front man Johnny Green.  Johnny will perform a stripped back set of country and blues from some of the pioneers of roots and rhythm.  "Johnny Green's vocals are among the most unmistakable in Australia - he is the favourite singer of many other musicians as well as the fans. After you've heard him, all others are lacking." (Mort Fist).

The Lurlenes are fresh on the Sydney music scene. Fronted by singer/songwriter and guitarist Gina Bodean, influences range from Lucinda Williams and Cowboy Junkies to Bob Dylan and Ani Difranco. They will open the night showcasing their individual and unique style of roots music.

The launch of Lonesome Highway Sessions on Saturday October 25 at The Bridge Hotel Rozelle will be followed by monthly sessions into next year. They will bring a new approach to country and roots music in Sydney and are not to be missed.

Country’n Roots Music in Sydney
These brand new monthly sessions will bring a much anticipated fresh approach to country’n roots music in Sydney, featuring unique line-ups, bands reforming for one-off appearances, and new collaborations. As well as an awesome line-up of bands each month, there’ll be DJ Calamity, and rare and classic music tracks and flicks.

The October launch of Lonesome Highway Sessions sees the long awaited return of PETER BUSHER who will travel from Perth especially for Lonesome Highway - his first and only performance in Sydney in well over a year ! An outstanding line-up of Sydney’s finest musicians will join Peter on the night, Stuart French on guitar, Michael Vidale on bass, and Doug Gallagher on drums. Other acts playing at the launch will be announced soon.

Peter is excited at the prospect of playing here again. He will play tracks from his “Beer Today, Gone Tomorrow” album recorded in Austin Texas in 2000, (with musicians including Johnny Cash pianist Earl Poole Ball and Dale Watson’s pedal player Ricky Davis along with Austin’s hottest session players). Peter Busher’s earlier bands include Silent Type, The Never Never & Dude Ranch. In recent times Peter has fronted The Lone Rangers (WA) and The Feral Swing Katz (recording the album “Feral Swing Katz with Peter Busher”). He has won several awards, most recently at the 2002 Australian Country Music Awards in Tamworth.
