ADELAIDE CD LAUNCH OF "A TIME FOR CHANGE"
The award winning and internationally acclaimed, The Borderers, fresh from their knock out performances at the prestigious Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival … will be launching their 8th & latest album: “A Time For Change” at "The Gov" on Sat 26th May @ 8.30pm

Known as one of the premier live acts around the world, The Borderers, have chosen their favourite hometown stompin’ ground – The Gov – to unleash the album which critics are raving about and dubbing their finest yet.

On “A Time For Change”, The Borderers, have intentionally channeled Bruce Springsteen’s “We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions” and created a country tinged protest album while still keeping the original passion and vibe which The Borderers are well known for.

The Borderers are currently receiving mainstream and country radio airplay with the first single lifted from “A Time For Change”. “My Mother, My Angel of Love” is a dedication to the most important person in everyone’s life – their Mum – and highlights the feelings, love and affection we all feel toward this special person. “We take them for granted sometimes, especially in our teenage years. We’re sure you’ll be able to relate to its sentiments”, says guitarist, Jim Paterson.

The Borderers pride themselves on their independent spirit which paid off recently when the band won the Independent Music Award in the US for their song, “Sinner and The Saint”, in the Gospel Music category. The song now goes out to 11 million people via Borders Bookstore & EMusic.

So, come along and celebrate the release of The Borderers brand new album. It will be a great night of music and fun and also a way of helping to raise some much needed funds to help get The Borderers back overseas to promote their new record in Asia and Europe.

Tickets are $20.00 or $18.00 Conc and are available from The Gov, 59 Port Rd, Hindmarsh ( Opp. Entertainment Centre ) by:

A REVIEW OF THE NEW CD...
.............I’ve been listening to a new album by The BordererS – that gorgeous, energetic duo from South Australia, who come to Tamworth each year and kick their heels up in the most artistic manner possible. This wonderful outfit introduced yet another aspect to our ever evolving festival and their albums to date have reflected their own individual style. This time around though The BordererS have gone country – and it’s an awesome outcome. Take a little bluegrass, mix it gently with some Dixieland jazz, a touch of Zydeco and you’ve got the essential ingredients of "A Time For Change" – The BordererS and The Rough Diamonds. Jim says the album was heavily influenced by Bruce Springsteen’s recording in 2006 of The Seeger Sessions – protest songs Pete Seeger used to sing in the ‘60s. While you won’t find much country on “The Boss’s” disc, you will on "A Time For Change". I love the album. BordererS originals are interspersed with traditional Irish songs and Alex’s take on the Leonard Cohen classic, "Hallelujah", is to die for. Track four is superb, and is one for all the mums out there – and those people who love their mums. It’s called "My Mother, My Angel of Love", and it certainly puts into perspective a mother’s unconditional love. As you’d expect from any BordererS album, there’s lots of rollicking dance tunes, but there’s a real country edge to this disc that shows the band’s versatility and universal love of music. Go out and buy yourself a copy – and buy one for your mum too!
In the meantime, visit their website, www.theborderers.com.au .......................

“My Mother, My Angel of Love”
My Mother, My Angel of Love” is the brand new single from multi-award winning band, The Borderers.

The song is a dedication to the most important person in everyone’s life – their Mum – and highlights the feelings, love and affection we all feel toward this special person. “We take them for granted sometimes, especially in our teenage years. We’re sure you’ll be able to relate to its sentiments”, says guitarist, Jim Paterson.

Jim and Alex originally wrote
“My Mother, My Angel of Love”, as Bulgaria’s entry into the prestigious Eurovision Song Contest – in the end, Bulgaria decided to go with an alternate song but The Borderers thought it was too good a song to have sit on the shelf and gather dust.

The Borderers became a band by accident when Jim was holidaying in Australia in 1993 as part of a round world trip. “I was just visiting South Australia to visit a friend when I got invited to a recording studio to hear this band. I loved their sound so much that I eventually co-produced the album, got 5 of my songs on it and married the lead singer”.

Lead singer, Alex, was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and came to Australia in 1987 and lists Annie Lennox and Joni Mitchell as major influences. Jim was born in Glasgow, Scotland and arrived in Australia on Christmas Eve 1993 and is influenced musically by AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Status Quo and Talking Heads.

The Borderers pride themselves on their independent spirit – running their own indie record label – Celtic Records – which to date has released eight Borderers cds and a number of DVDs which have combined sales of in excess of 60,000 units. This indie approach paid off recently when the band won the Independent Music Award in the US for “Sinner and The Saint” in the Gospel Music category. The song now goes out to 11 million people via Borders Bookstores and eMusic.com

The Borderers are well known performers at many of the world’s top music festivals having played Byron Bay Blues & Roots, Port Fairy Folk, Edinburgh and Womad Festivals in Australia and the UK – as well as touring Canada and the USA. They’ve also supported artists including Tom Jones, The Proclaimers, The Chieftans and Shane McGowan from The Pogues.

A TIME FOR CHANGE...
There seems to be a groundswell of discontent among the people of the world as they realise that their leaders are taking them down a path that they don't want to go. Bruce Springsteen released the "Seeger Sessions" earlier this year which was an album of protest songs that Pete Seeger used to sing in the 1960's. It became No.1 in Europe & America with little or no airplay. Neil Young & Willie Nelson have also released anti-war albums. Alex & I wanted to express our views in our new CD; "Time for Change" and go down a musical path that we've never been down before. Namely bluegrass mixed in with dixieland, zydecho & roots music. We tried to make it the album to put on at a party but also to have a message in some of the songs.

Now that the kilts have been put aside for a while the band would love to achieve more success in the country music market and believe that the audiences in Tamworth will love this album. The opening track is called "Higher Ground". It features Serena Ryder from Canada performing a duet with Alex. It's so smoky you may need to buy a fan to listen to it. Imagine a bluegrass band playing in a dixieland club in New Orleans. Serena Ryder is a star on the rise. She's just been signed to EMI and is big in the Canadian Country Music scene.

One of the songs: "Love is the Answer" provided a platform for Alex & I as songwriters to speak out against the threats to democracy and freedom of speech. This is our Protest song for the 21st Century.

You can hear "Love is the Answer" on www.sonicbids.com/theborderers2 (Audio section)

LOVE IS THE ANSWER (Paterson / Alexander )
Verse 1
When they say they're giving you democracy
We know it's lies, it's the height of hypocracy
Corporations don't care about the have not's
No morals, it's all about the profits
It's no wonder people are starting to hate us
We plunder countries, invade them like a rapist
Now everyone is suspicious of their neighbours
It must be true cos I read it in the papers

Sub Chorus
But forgiveness is beauty
You know that empires don't last
All this war and destruction
Why can't we learn, can't we learn from the past

Chorus
That Love can bring changes
Yes Love is the answer it's what we're looking for
When there's violence and hatred ( woh, oh, oh, oh, oh )
Then Love is the answer it's what we're looking for

Verse 2
We were told there was weapons of mass destruction
They bombed the place and said they had no option
They use the war to help them win elections
It's time to stand up and give them our objections
Don't you know there's going to be a backlash
What's wrong with talking, does it leave you feeling breathless
Life is sacred can you hear the voice of reason
No more killing in the name of freedom

Sub Chorus
Forgiveness is beauty ( It's the highest form of love )
You know that empires don't last ( They all come tumbling down )
All this war & destruction ( Senseless deaths )
Why can't we learn, can't we learn from the past

Chorus
Love can bring changes ( woh, oh, oh, oh, oh )
Yes Love is the answer and what we're looking for
When there's violence and hatred ( woh, oh, oh, oh, oh )
Yes Love is the answer, and what we're looking for
Life is so sacred ( woh, oh, oh, oh, oh )
Love is the answer, and what we're looking for
When there's violence and hatred ( woh, oh, oh, oh, oh )
Love is the answer, and what we're looking for
If we all come together we can make a difference. This is why The BordererS will be donating $2.00 from every sale of "A Time for Change" to GetUp!

GetUp! is an independent, not-for-profit community campaigning group. They use new technology to empower Australians to have their say on important national issues

BORDERERS BITS...
KEITH RICHARDS BACK ON HIS FEET

The Stones are back on the road after guitarist Keith Richards was given the all-clear by doctors to resume the Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang tour.

The tour was postponed after Richards fell out of a coconut tree in Fiji and underwent emergency surgery in a New Zealand hospital but kicked off last night in Milan, Italy.

The Stones added three songs to the setlist which haven’t been performed on this tour so far. They were ‘Streets of Love’ from the Rough Justice album, the classic ‘Under My Thumb’ and an Italian version of ‘As Tears Go By’ titled ‘Con Le Mie Lacrime’.

SYD BARRETT DIES AT 60
Former Pink Floyd vocalist Syd Barrett has died aged 60 from complications arising from diabetes last Friday.

Pink Floyd today released a statement saying “The band are naturally very upset and sad to learn of Syd Barrett's death. Syd was the guiding light of the early band line-up and leaves a legacy which continues to inspire.”

“He died peacefully at home. There will be a private family funeral in the next few days.” His brother Allan said.

Barrett’s later life had been a sad tale after he plunged into insanity after taking too much LSD in the 60s (although many claim the LSD simply enhanced a preexisting condition).
His erratic behaviour was blamed for his sacking/quitting of Pink Floyd.

The BordererS album, 'Grace'
The BordererS new album, 'Grace', is now available online from leading independent music website Indie-CDs (
http://www.indie-cds.com  )

The new album "Grace" sounds a little bit different to other BordererS albums, but the reaction so far says it is the best to date!

Track 1 "Legacy" features the International tenor Brian Gilbertson in a duet with Alex. It's got a real World Music feel although Brian used to be a rock singer back in the 70's.
This song took a year and a half to get it right in the studio.

Track 2 "Grace" was nominated as one of the top 5 songs in the Gospel / Christian category of the Musicoz Awards! Many fans also commented on the song after the Adelaide Carols by Candlelight. This was the 4th version of this song.

The movie "Standing in the shadows of Motown" was a great inspiration for the arrangement.

Track 4 "Sinner & the Saint" features the African American singer Dwight Adams in a duet with Alex plus a gospel choir. Dwight used to sing with Marvin Gaye & Billy Joel in New York.

Track 7 "Keep the Light On" was nominated as one of the top 3 songs in the Peace, Tolerance & Understanding Award at the Port Fairy Festival. This has been a crowd favourite from day one. This also took 18 months to make it sound like it does in our live performances.

Track 8 "The Dark Horse" is starting to be featured on the country music stations all around Australia and the video should be on Country Music Television in a few weeks time. The song features Jay Collie from "Jonah's Road" in a duet with Alex. We met Jay at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre when both bands won Musicoz Awards back in 2003.

Track 12 "The River is Deep" almost didn't make the album. We had one more day of recording before mixing began and we still didn't have the lyrics. I desperately searched through my filing cabinet for inspiration. I found a song that I wrote in 1980 called "This River needs Crossing" and we bunged that in. To our amazement, it seems to have worked. Hallelujah!

The album is now available in the shops. It's distributed by MGM Distribution and One Stop Entertainment.

It's also available from The BordererS new Secure Online Service @ www.theborderers.com.au !

'Grace' Review
Independent bands like The Waifs, the John Butler Trio, and The Cat Empire are having phenomenal years, moving from obscurity to superstardom very rapidly. Enter another independent band, The BordererS. No strangers to the Indie scene, "Grace" is The BordererS eighth CD, and their experience shows in the tightness of their sound.

Lead singer Alex’s alto voice has a lilting quality which is smooth as a lullaby. Guest vocalists like Dwight Adams’ rich gospel harmonies, and Jay Collie’s soft sounds work beautifully with Alex’s, and the overall effect is soothing and very easy to listen to.

Grace provides a nice blend of slow lilting songs, rhythmic jazz inspired pieces like “Keep the Light On,” and faster paced (think Lindsay Buckingham) rock such as “Temptation”, many of which are danceable.

Listeners who are looking for crisp and evocative music with a light feel and upbeat Christian inspired lyrics will enjoy the varied songs and sheer professionalism of this rich CD.

Calling all Fans of The Borderers!

Background info on the new album, 'Grace'

We got it sounding better by watching "Standing in the shadows of Motown".
