After graduating from the 2002 CMAA college, Brooke performed along
with the other graduates at a concert to show off their achievements to a
large crowd at West Tamworth Leagues Club. There certainly was a lot
of talent on that stage. Thinking that she could relax and enjoy the
rest of the festival, Brooke was delighted to be invited, as a guest, to
sing her composition "My Home" at the Superstars of
Bluegrass. It was superb. Rod McCormack's acoustic
guitar accompaniment was, of course, just perfect. And another
thrill for Brooke, was to sing duet with Gina Jeffreys, the old standard,
"Old Paint". A quick trip back home for a gig at the
Beach Hotel Merewether, then grab a change of clothes or two then, back to
Tamworth. Brooke was selected from the college to perform
on the 'red carpet' in front of the Tamworth Regional Entertainment
Centre. Who knows what the future holds for this talented young
lady, maybe a gig inside T.R.E.C. next year???
Perhaps the
biggest thrill in Brooke's rather hectic week came as a result of her great
performance in the college concert, Brooke was asked by Allied Artist's Rob Potts
if she would like to open the Monday night international songwriters showcase at
'The Basement' in Sydney's Circular Quay. She grabbed the chance and
played in a room steeped in Aussie music legends (just have a glance at the
posters on the walls!) and to play before a couple of her song writing heroes,
Audrey Auld and Fred Eaglesmith, was probably the highlight of Brooke's music
career. Brooke performed seven of her songs and was again
accompanied by the beautiful guitar of Rod McCormack. Brooke's
singing and her own compositions were very warmly received by The Basement
audience. A terrific night and a stellar performance by a truly talented
singer/songwriter.
