the year. It is fantastic to be nominated for these awards and
we feel very privileged to be the first independent artists to

just finished a hectic tour of 15 shows in 17 days with Dianna
Corcoran and Brendon Walmsley and had an absolute ball. Thanks
to everyone who came along and made the whole tour so
successful. Touring really brings you back to the reasons that

Seems like Carter & Carter are not the only ones who dream about
getting away from it all as the current single 'Run Away' leaps
into the Country Tracks Top 30. Released at the Tamworth festival
this year in conjunction with Carter & Carter's new album Leap
Before You Look, Run Away has made it's way into the Country
Tracks Top 30 in a hurry thanks to radio presenters and stations
around Australia putting it into high rotation on their playlists.
The album 'Leap Before You Look' is also receiving great reviews
with many fans and industry saying that this is Carter & Carter's
"best album yet".

‘It is always terrific to win any award and winning in the
inaugural 2006 ICE AWARDS is so very exciting. We want to
sincerely thank Deb Minter for all her ongoing hard work in
producing ICE NEWS every month and keeping Australia and the world
informed on what is happening in the Independent Country Music
Scene here in Australia. Thanks Deb, and keep up the great work,

- This is what Deb has to say about the new ICE AWARDS and
how they are determined.
‘The judges come from a wide range of genres including rock, jazz,
theatre, classical and operatic and include working (and retired)
professional musicians, extensively qualified music teachers,
radio personalities and audio engineers. All have worked for a
minimum of 20 years in their professions and all wish to remain
completely anonymous to ensure they cannot be influenced by future
contact if the awards continue. None have any preconceived notions
of reputation, charting success or experience of the artists they
judged.
I gave the judges no advice in any way. They were not even
supplied with the CD liners from the compilation CDs. They simply
used their extensive knowledge to choose the highest vocal
quality, purity of pitch, clarity of enunciation and song
performance, taking into account the difficulty of material. The
backing WAS judged, but only as to the suitability of the music to
the melody and lyrics.
These awards in no way attempt to denigrate or undermine the
extreme importance of existing awards which will always remain the
paramount acknowledgement of Australian Country Music. After all,
there is more to an artist than just the music - there is the
dedication, the hard work and the live performance - all of which
shape a 'star'. The ICE awards just celebrate the song itself.’

Country Music's Own 'Real Beauty'

- July 17th sees the launch of a brand
new National Glossy Magazine for Women called Real Beauty and
Merelyn Carter from Carter & Carter is one of the five chosen
women to represent real women all around Australia.
It has been a year for our Country Music Stars to broaden their
horizons. Examples like Felicity Urquhart's presenting on Sydney
Weekender, Troy Cassar-Daley's role in It Takes Two and now
Merelyn Carter in Real Beauty is great news for not only the
artists involved but Australian Country Music in general as their
profile is raised and more awareness of what they do undoubtedly
sparks more interest in the music of their hearts.
'This is a magazine close to my heart' says Merelyn 'For the past
10 - 15 years of my life I have developed the courage to be myself
- what you see is what you get, on and off stage - and I have
always had trouble with the stereotypical pressures the media have
generally placed on women. You know, you need to be skinny, have
no flaws, be the right body shape - not too big hips or breasts,
and certainly no wrinkles! This is such an unrealistic expectation
and even those of us who are pretty self assured can find this
type of pressure hard to live up to.
Having the opportunity to be involved in a real women's magazine
created by real women gives me the challenge to really walk the
talk. I see the magazine as an inspiration to women everywhere to
celebrate their own unique beauty, their inner and outer strengths
that make them who they are - I believe all women everywhere can
be beautiful, it is all about attitude. The aim is that this
magazine will contribute in a positive way to the lives of women

Readers of Real Beauty are encouraged to give their opinion in an
on line survey and contribute to the future content of the
magazine. Real Beauty is a magazine that listens to what the
average woman on the street wants to hear, not what Hollywood is
dishing out to them.
The launch issue of Real Beuaty is in print at almost half a
million copies, and tipped-on to the August issues of Maddison,
Australian Women's Weekly, Cosmopolitan and Real Living that are
available at Coles and Woolworths Stores. All subsequent issues
will be distributed independently. Merelyn will also be appearing
on A Current Affair soon in conjunction with the magazines launch.

and were thrilled to win the two duo awards particularly with the
single release 'God Didn't Make Mistakes'. There were lots of
winners on the night and the bluegrass band Harddrive kept
everyone well entertained and dancing all night as well as backing
a host of artists later in the night after the awards. It was a
fantastic start to a great festival weekend. Thanks to everyone

the Tamworth On Tour show earlier this year
- God Didn't Make Mistakes is the first single off Carter &
Carter's Acoustic Gospel album and is their eleventh national top
ten hit.
Having just got back from playing main stage at the Gympie Muster
and the Galston Country Music Festival Carter & Carter were
invited on to Good Morning Australia with Bert Newton on Channel
10 to perform their latest hit. It will be screened on Thursday
the 22nd of September to close the show.
A couple of days later Carter & Carter will head to Mildura for
the Country Music festival where they will perform over the 10
days of the festival.

- Following the amazing success of Carter & Carter's Every
Minute Album, which produced
four national #1 and two national #2 singles, Carter & Carter
release a new song with a new story.
The single has been released to radio on NFS 90 track number 2 and
provides a taste
from their forthcoming album due for release in early 2005.
Play That Song is available on an enhanced CD-Rom single which
includes the video clip for the song and two other video clips of
Carter & Carter's hit singles Lead Me Home & Dancing Shoes
The song was written by David Carter and Michael Carr based on the
following story that Merelyn heard from a member of the public at
one of our shows.
PLAY THAT SONG
Being on the road a lot, singing our songs, gives us the
wonderful opportunity
to meet many people and hear stories of their lives. Earlier this
year we met a lady
in Queensland, who shared her story with us which inspired this
song.
As a little girl she grew up in a family with not much money.
Every week she would do chores for her pocket money and save up
enough
to buy a postage stamp every second week. With this stamp she
would
write to her local radio station presenter and request her
favourite song.
Then for the next two weeks, until she could afford another stamp,
she sat
with her family each night and listened intently to the
radio to see if they would play her request.
More often than not they would hear the requested song and it
brought them
all lots of smiles and laughter, and many happy memories over the
years.
Now that little girl is an older lady who has everything she
needs, a loving
family of her own, a big house, two cars, a swimming pool and
money
enough to buy all the stamps she needs. But she's never forgotten
the songs that
helped her through the earlier years of her life and now she wants
to give something back,
so every time she sees a new artist she buys their albums. She
bought both of ours.
We thought this was such a lovely story, and we were reminded of
the profound
impact a song can have on people and how special it is when a song
is requested.
We were reminded too of how important the radio presenter is to
their
listener and the happiness they can bring by granting the song
request.
And we were also reminded of the reason we write and sing songs -
to touch peoples hearts.
We hope Play That Song reminds you of something or someone special
in your life.
