- PARIS FOR PRIOR

- Ian Heydon is the co – writer of the comedy album, Big Fat
Bastards Like Me. Ian was one of the writers of television’s
“Kingswood Country” and radio classics like “How Green Was My
Cactus” and “The Year My Country Broke”
Ian reflects on how the project began!
I was juggling my own mid-life crisis when I was invited to
share in Dave’s. The phone rang.
“Matey, I’ve chucked in my job, bought a new guitar and I want
to go on the road.”
“Most men having a mid-life crisis would buy a sports car to do
that.”
“I couldn’t find one to fit.”
“You taking both chords?”
“I’ve got three now.”
“Oh. So it’s a Country show?”
“No. I can’t find any material. I’m happily married, my dog’s
not dead and when I get drunk I get happy.”
”How depressing.”
“Yeah. So I’ve decided to become Australia’s oldest newest funny
bloke. Want to play?”
“Why not. We’re off to a good start. You’re a sight gag.”
And so, Big Fat Bastards Like Me was born. It was a lot of fun
writing the show with Dave and even more fun hearing the ad-libs
I had absolutely no part in.
If you have already purchased this CD – thank you. If you are
reading this in the shop, please take it to the cash register. I
have my heart set on a sports car. - Ian Heydon
The album was recorded live at the Onkaparinga Sporting Club at
Oakbank and was engineered and produced by Stuie French. It’s an
album poking fun at life situations and political satire.

- JOHN O’DEA AND DAVE PRIOR
- John Odea, Kevin
‘Bloody’ Wilson and Dave Prior
-
- The boys have been on the
road together doing a number of gigs across the country,
including a recent trip to do a show at the Noble Park RSL with
stops along the way at Border Town and Millicent.
There’s a mixture of Australiana, tradition country, popular
songs and comedy in each of their shows.
John said “I make them cry and Dave makes them laugh”!
Dave said, “It’s an interesting road trip, with John in the
passenger seat balling his eyes out and me in the driver’s seat
laughing my head off”!
Along the way, the boys stopped at Colac and caught up with
Kevin ‘Bloody’ Wilson who was playing to a packed house at the
RSL club. Kev and his crew reciprocated by turning up to the
Noble Park RSL club to see their show. Kev said it was a
fantastic show, but not near enough #@#$*& swearing.
Most recently, it was a full house in Orroroo, John’s home town,
and then on to Parachilna and the famous Prairie Hotel. A great
gathering of station people turned up for the show and a BIG
night was had by all. The last wandering off at about 5am.
John will be releasing his new single “Parachilna Sunset” hot on
the heels of the top 10 success of “Old Rusty Ute”.
Dave is releasing his new live comedy album “Big Fat Bastards
like Me” at the end of this month.
John & Dave are looking forward to their next tour which is
called “Will Travel for Money” (and not much apparently!)
-
- Dave Prior has been booked to appear
at the 6ème FESTIVAL DAM COUNTRY NORMANDIE in LE NEUBOURG, about
100 kilometers west of Paris held on the 8th & 9th of September.
French country music presenter, Roland Lanzarone, has been playing
Dave’s music on radio since “Wind in the Wire” was released in
2000 and has been a great supporter of his subsequent albums.
“It was great surprise and thrill when I received an e-mail from
Roland inviting me to perform at this years festival” Dave said.
He added “It was the easiest thing I’ve had to yes to all year,
apart from, “Would sir like another bottle of red with that?”
Dave is about to record a live comedy album in May which will
feature Stuie French on Guitar, and in the producers chair. He has
been busy writing songs with his writing partner Ian Heydon which
include political satire and social comments. The album will be
released in July and is called “Big Fat Bastards Like Me”
- Tamworth 2007
- ‘BLACK & BLUE’
- The funniest new Australian comedy in years kicks off its
2007 tour in Tamworth. Black & Blue was developed and written by
Dave Prior and Ian Heydon, two middle-aged blokes who refuse to
grow up. Dave and Ian first collaborated on the radio series The
Year My Country Bloke and Ian’s comedy credits include Kingswood
Country, The Samuel Pepys Show and How Green Was My Cactus.
Black & Blue stars The Walkabout Man who is assisted by his little
white mate, ‘Blue’. It’s an adults-only comedy because, according
to Heydon, there are certain adjectives that go hand-in-hand with
people like George Bush. Prior agrees saying that nothing is
sacred, adding that it is a “black eye for the white guy”. Both
believe the show can work on two levels, depending on the venue
configuration and how many people turn up.
It’s funny… it’s irreverent… it’s R-Rated (18+) and what better
way to round off a great week of music than with a night of
laughs?
Black & Blue – one show only Sunday January 28 8:00pm – tickets
$20. The Regent Theatre Live

- DAVE’S ON A MOUNTAIN WITH HAGGARD
- “The Haggophiles come out to play.” – Deborah Minter,
CapNews
Dave Prior has finally done something he’s wanted to do for years
– he’s recorded an album of MERLE HAGGARD songs.
Titled SILVER WINGS AND HAGGARD THINGS, it is the follow-up to his
first three albums of original material.
A passionate conversation between producer Stuie French and Dave
resulted in this new Merle Haggard concept album – both being
massive Haggard fans, or a ‘Haggophile’ as Dave calls them.
“We wanted to catch the essence and feel of the songs without
trying to do a Hag impersonation. We tried to capture the depth
and feel of his (Haggard’s) music without the assistance of
illegal substances”, Dave laughs.
The stunning first single I’M ALWAYS ON A MOUNTAIN WHEN I FALL (NFS
#108 Track 1) shows off Dave’s beautiful resonating vocals, and
the amazing talents of musicians Stuie French, Michel Rose, Claire
O’Meara, Geoff Simpson, Brad Bergen, Mick Albeck and Camille Te
Nahu.
Dave is currently featured in the current issue of Country Music
Capital News, with I’M ALWAYS ON A MOUNTAIN WHEN I FALL already
added to 3HOTFM, 88.6FM Whittlesea and 100.3BayFM.
“The result is a highly listenable album … The lesser known I’m
Always On a Mountain When I Fall, is a wonderful Hag ballad that
exudes the class. Definitely one for the nostalgia collection.” –
Deborah Minter, CapNews

- DAVE INDUCTED TO SA HANDS OF
FAME
Dave Prior was inducted into the
South Australian Hands of Fame at the 28th Annual SA Country Music
Festival in Barmera earlier this month.
The ceremony was held at Rocky Page’s Walk Of Honour. Dave was
inducted along with fellow entertainers, Jeanette Wormald, Camille
Te Nahu, Tricia Wilson and Sandra Humphries.
“It was a real honour to be recognised” Dave said. He recalled
being hypnotised by Rocky Page during a Slim Dusty show when he
was about twelve years old, and then later backing Rocky at the
Alice Springs rodeo in the 70’s.
Dave’s induction follows a productive year for Dave with his
finalist nomination in this years TIARA Awards, current single All
These Things I Can Do making the Top 100 Country Hits chart
(source Mildura HotFM) as well has becoming his first foray into
the movie-making world with an accompanying clip, directed by Ross
Wood.
Dave has also been busy in the studio with producer Stuie French
(Feral Swing Katz / Felicity Urquhart) at Swinging Door Studios,
working on a new album. Due for release in September, the album
titled Silver Wings and Haggard Things, is a tribute to Merle
Haggard. Dave is excited about showcasing the new album, and hopes
the first single to radio will be I’m Always On A Mountain When I
Fall.
You can also catch up with him on his weekly radio show TODAY’S
BEST COUNTRY on the ACE Radio Network Victoria, 8HA Alice Springs
