- A Rogue Time with Bap
Kennedy and Danny George Wilson
Civil Society is proud to present the debut Australian tour
for Irishman Bap Kennedy and Homecoming tour
for Grand Drive’s front man
Danny George Wilson.
Bap Kennedy’s story begins exactly where it should – with an
infamous encounter at a pub and drinks over Bap explaining that it
was the Irish who invented country music, The Beatles and
fighting. The man he met was Steve Earle,
who unsteadied by his meeting with Bap declared that night
“Someday skinny, you’re coming to Nashville to make
a country rekkid and I'm gonna perduce it”.
Bap emerged on the scene a serious contender with his recorded
works and live performances highly acclaimed by his industry peers
and media. Bap’s latest offering ‘The Big Picture’ is regarded by
many as his best album yet – a seamless blend of Celtic Soul and
Southern Roots and not without a cast of notaries, including the
great Van Morrison and Shane
McGowan.
Bap’s songs are full of tongue & cheek and heartbreaking tales,
which tells Bap’s own story.
Suffice to say that Bap has “lived” and the resultant
self-deprecating humour and good-natured cynicism has been
captured in his work.
Imagine the best possible Van Morrison… with
empathy replacing bitterness and a sense of wonder revealed for
all to share in. Fabulous! – MOJO
Danny George Wilson does not let his
location dictate his style. Originally from Queensland and now
living in South London, Danny plays deep Americana.
Touring off the back of his debut solo release ‘The
Famous Mad Mile’ - a powerful and personal record that
speaks in its own voice; Danny's voice and with Wilson’s trademark
gift for simple but powerful lyrics and haunting melodies.
Having recently shared the stage with Cara Dillon, Neal Casal and
Peter Bruntnell – witness Danny bringing to life on stage the
songs he writes about life, day to day; rather than the things he
thinks people want to think about. It’s brute honesty, tracing a
path between the past and the present, wistfully pulling lessons
from the wreckage.
“… the sad, gentle refrains are subtly catchy and you’ll soon find
yourself humming the choruses.” – HERALD SUN
"Here are echoes of Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Lucinda
Williams. Yes. They are that good. There's true singer/songwriter
greatness here..." – Sydney Morning Herald
