College graduate shines with ARIA debut
CMAA Australian College of Country Music 2006 graduate Lou Bradley has made a stunning debut at the 21st Annual ARIA Awards in some mighty fine company in the Best Country Album category.

Lou’s exquisite debut album, Love Someone, produced by Rod McCormack, is a finalist in contention with Gina Jeffreys’ latest release, Walks Of Life, as well as the albums of James Blundell, Keith Urban and The Greencards.

The ARIA Awards winners will be announced in a glittering ceremony at Sydney’s Acer Arena on Sunday, October 28.

It’s interesting to note that one of Lou’s fellow ARIA finalists is Gina Jeffreys, wife of Lou’s producer, Rod McCormack. Lou’s connection with Rod came about due to her meeting sound engineer Ted Howard during the recording component of the 2006 CMAA Australian College of Country Music.

Ted suggested to Lou that she meet Rod and from their initial discussions came the idea of Rod producing Lou’s debut album. It was only natural that in January 2007 Lou showcased songs from that disc before a standing room only audience at The Pub, in Tamworth, during Rod McCormack’s Australian Bluegrass Allstars gig.

“College opened up doors that I wouldn’t have been able to open up myself,” a clearly thrilled Lou said, shortly after hearing of her ARIA nomination. “It is so exciting to be nominated, but unless I can stab Keith Urban with an ARIA trophy, I don’t think I have much chance of winning.”

Lou is also a dual finalist in the 11th annual Southern Stars Australian Independent Country Music Awards in album of the year and female vocalist of the year categories, with the winners to be announced in Mildura on Saturday, October 6.

The group of 21 students making up the class of 2008 will be announced by the Country Music Association of Australia later this month.

Planning for Australia’s specialist professional development initiative in country music is a year-round affair for the CMAA. Tutors and musicians are recruited to guide the 21 students through a series of workshops and classes, designed to help prepare them for a professional country music career.

CONGRATULATIONS Lou Bradley……
