NICKI GILLIS IN GOLDEN SPOTLIGHT
The incredible talents of NICKI GILLIS have been
honoured over the weekend, with the announcement of her
being named the 2007 COOPERS GOLDEN SADDLE AWARD winner.
Nicki was up against two strong contenders – Aussie
troubadour Lee Forster and new talent Markus Meier
(Shock Records).
The Coopers Golden Saddle Award has put the spotlight on
Nicki and her latest single REMEMBER ME, as it rockets
up the Top 30 Country Tracks airplay chart, currently
sitting in the Top 20.
Nicki’s career has gone from strength to strength –
having entertained the troops in Iraq, named 2006 Blue
Mountains Music Awards Outstanding Contribution to
Blues/Jazz Music Award, releasing her acclaimed album
LUCY’S DAUGHTER late 2006 under the guidance of producer
Roger Corbett, and this year named Open Album and
Independent Female Vocalist of the Year at the Horsham
Country Music Awards.
Her current album has been acknowledged with two hits
taken from the album – LEAVIN’ YOU FOR MYSELF
(co-written with Kevin Bennett) and the current single
REMEMBER ME (co-written with Roger Corbett).
Nicki’s golden voice goes hand in hand with her new
title, having recently supported James Blundell at
Eastside Café, Nicki will be performing at upcoming
music festivals in Mildura and Broken Hill.
Her new clip for REMEMBER ME will be hitting CMC in
coming weeks.

Hi Everyone,
Yes I know it’s been a while…. Well months actually…
been a little busy but certainly not complaining. The
next couple of months will see me traveling far and wide
from Gympie to Galston then off to Bourke and down to
Mildura with a trek out to Broken Hill thrown in for
good measure….
News and past events
Remember Me #21 on the Country Tracks Top 30 this
week – Thank you again to all of you in radio for your
continued support. It is greatly appreciated.
Leavin’ You For Myself on The Best of CMC DVD 2007 – you
can see the full rundown of all the artists at
www.countrymusicchannel.com.au . Don’t forget to
request the “Leavin You” video clip while you’re there….ps
new clip should be out very soon!
Jamm4Genes – First of all a very big thank you to
everyone that came along to one of the biggest “Country
Music Jamms” on August 2nd, at Canterbury Hurlestone
Park RSL. Jamm4Genes was part of Jeans4Genes day raising
money for the Childrens Medical Research Institute where
they tirelessly strive to find a cure and genetic
answers to diseases such as epilepsy, muscular dystrophy
and cancer just to name a few. It was a great night and
with such a star studded cast how could it not be. So
many artists gave up their time to perform for the cause
- Stacey Morris, Beccy Cole, Adam Harvey, James
Blundell, Drew McAlister, The McClymonts, Karl Broadie,
Nick Kingswell, Jake Nickolai, Nick Phillips, Jonah’s
Road and Morgan Evans. With Frank Ifield and Jim Haynes
who so graciously hosted the event.
Itunes - You can now purchase any track or the whole
Lucy’s Daughter album on itunes
http://www.apple.com/search/downloads/?q=nicki+gillis
. If you would rather a hard copy of the album you can
go to my website
www.nickigillis.com and order online or go to
your nearest music store and order a copy.
Mornings with Kerri-Anne – With less than 24hours notice
I was privileged to receive a phone call to perform on
Mornings with Kerri-Anne a couple of weeks ago. Sorry, I
would have loved to have let you all know beforehand but
with such short notice I was hard pushed to put a band
together. Thank you to all the boys who arrived so early
on Tuesday morning to play live to air – Roger Corbett,
Brad Bergen, Tim Wilson, Rex Goh and Sam McNally. You
guys made it so easy and a lot of fun. (I will hopefully
be able to upload some vision on my website soon).
James Blundell at the East Side Arts Centre Saturday,
4th August – now I have to admit I was a little nervous
about this one but at the same time honoured to be asked
to support James Blundell (after all I am a big fan) and
thanks James for having me perform on your show. A true
gentleman and charismatic performer… and what a great
intimate venue the Eastside Café in Paddington is which
allowed for an up close and personal approach (maybe I
should have kept some secrets to myself? hehe…)
And “Way Out West” with the Sunny Cowgirls – Well I
should say out East as the Koorda Hotel is about 3 hours
East of Perth, WA. I supported the girls for one show of
their West Australian tour. What a hoot and it was great
to catch up with Sophie and Celeste. Thanks girls for
having me! (sorry couldn’t help myself with the title…it
was just right there in front of me!)
Coming up…….
Gympie Muster 2007 – Back to the Muster after 3
years and looking forward to it. Can’t believe it’s been
over 10years since winning the Gympie Muster Talent
Search….. so much has happened since then but it still
seems like yesterday. I’ll be at the muster on August
22nd, 23rd and 24th with a full band. Check out
www.muster.com.au for the full program……what a great
line up!!
Coopers Golden Saddle Awards – as a total surprise to me
(as it is something that you do not enter yourself) I
have been named a finalist at the Golden Saddle Awards
this year to be held on Sunday September 9th as part of
the Galston CMF. This year the festival will run from
Friday night 7th. Go to
www.gcmf.com to
find out all of the details. The other 2 finalists are
Lee Forster and Markus Meier.
Off to the Back of Bourke – On the road with Tall Timbre
and Bryen Willems. Should be a hoot… always an adventure
on a Tall Timbre Tour. Quite possibly a little like the
Leyland Brothers as I’m sure Ted has marked out some off
road shortcuts along the way. The dates and venues are:
Thu 20 Sep – Cobar Bowling and Golf Club 7pm
Fri 21 Sept – The Oxley Club, Bourke, NSW 8pm – 11pm
Sat 22 Sept - Bakra Hutz farm stay Breewarrina 8 pm
start till late!
Mildura CMF – Being held a little later this year. Sept
28th to Oct 7th.
-
Check out the full program at
www.milduracountrymusic.com.au
As usual I am sure there will be lots of laughs and fun
along the way. Rumour has it that Midnight Madness will
again be missing from the event but I am sure there will
be some larrikins amongst us willing to find a suitable
bootleg venue…. Now it just wouldn’t be ‘country’ if
they didn’t!!
Trecking out to Broken Hill –I will have been on the
road for a good 3 and ½ weeks before hand and have
decided to fly into Broken Hill for the Country Music
Festival to be held from 11th -14th October. I’ve heard
so many great reports about the festival and look
forward to getting out to Broken Hill. I’ve also spoken
to many that have at some stage of their lives lived in
the town.
Thank you for being a part of the Nicki Gillis journey..
The best way to keep track is to visit
www.myspace.com/nickigillis
as I am able to update it more often. I am now working
on a new website where you should be able to subscribe,
which will also make it easier to email you all and not
get in trouble with Optus for suspected spamming!!…..
technology seems to do nothing but take up lots of
valuable time?? But then again with out it I would be
photocopying this newsletter and sticking stamps on
envelopes….hmmm a novel idea…. Until next time take care
and hope to see you a gig real soon!

We Remember and Celebrate Mother’s Day
only once a year…. But Mum’s are on the go 365, 24 / 7
!!!!!!
Following the top 10 chart success of ‘Leavin You For
Myself’, Australian Country artist, Nicki Gillis is about
the release her second single ‘Remember Me’ to radio.
‘Remember Me’ is from her award winning album “Lucy’s
Daughter” released through One Stop Country late 2006.
’Remember Me’ is a song for Mum’s to remember that they
are important too..
“Sometimes we get so involved with children, work and
other family commitments that we lose sight of who we
really are, but let’s not forget the Dad’s either” Nicki
has said.
“When I first started writing this song I was marvelling
at the fact that one day you can be a person full of hopes
and dreams, then you’re pregnant and all of a sudden
everyone treats you completely differently. As an
expectant mother you are then poked and prodded by doctors
and specialists, you very quickly find out the truths of
childbirth and beyond, and then finally, once the baby is
born you become that child’s “Mum”.. infact people stop
calling you by your first name.” “Being a Mum is one of
the most difficult roles you can ever take on in your life
but full of so many amazing moments and rewards. You find
that nothing else will ever measure up to that feeling and
bond a mother has for her child but if you lose who you
are in the process then your children won’t know who you
really are.”
This is the first of many songs off “Lucy’s Daughter” that
reflect a pure intimacy into Nicki’s own experience. “Up
until now my songs have only skimmed around the edges of
personal experiences, but when I was writing for this
album I took on a deeper challenge to write on a more
personal level”.
• Winner of the 2007 Horsham Country Music Awards Open
Album of the year for “Lucy’s Daughter”
• Winner of the 2007 Horsham Country Music Awards
Independent Female Vocalist
• Winner of the 2006 Blue Mountains Music Award for
outstanding Contribution to Blues/jazz music.
• 2007 finalist for the Coopers Golden Saddle Award.
Nicki Gillis “Lucy’s Daughter” is proudly distributed by
One Stop Country and available at all good independent
music retailers including JB Hi Fi and Leading Edge
stores.

First of all a very Happy Easter
to you all, though a confessed chocoholic I don’t only
like this time of the year for the chocolate but mostly
for the time to spent with family and friends and for a
chance of New beginnings. (Yes my girls were extremely
excited about the Easter Bunny arriving and thankfully not
too much chocolate has been consumed as yet).
…..and it has taken such a joyous occasion to prompt me
into getting my act together to write. Well also the fact
that I was in my sick bed for three days with some sort of
throat infection which we now joke seemed to rob me of the
things I love to do the most…. That is talk, eat and drink
red wine. It was difficult being bed ridden and I have to
admit it gave me lots of time to think about the things I
would rather be doing (and how much work I have to catch
up on…. So now that I am back on my feet I thought I would
forget about the work and write to you all).
It is a pretty exciting time. “Leavin’ You For Myself” had
reached #11 on the Top 30 Country Track Charts and the
video clip is now at #27 on the CMC chart. Thank you to
all that are requesting it on CMC… to keep it on the
chart, keep requesting and for those of you that would
like to join in the fun go to
www.countrymusicchannel.com.au
and join up(it doesn’t take long to do). Then request
away. The more the merrier… the chart is put together by
number of requests.
Other news is that ring tones for “Leavin You For Myself”
and “Watch The Wildflowers Grow” are now available at
www.musicrecommenders.com
Coming soon…..especially for those overseas, you will be
able to download tracks from my album via CDbaby… just
give it a couple of weeks and I will hopefully have it all
up and running. (I do listen to your requests… it just
takes me time to get it together).
Check out my new look website
www.nickigillis.com
which I am able to update more often now. Infact catch up
on news from the past 3 months and for more info keep an
eye on
www.myspace.com/nickigillis
as there is more news on there (read the blogs).
Looking ahead… May is very exciting as I am heading down
to Melbourne and will be performing in acoustic mode at
the Elwood Lounge on Thursday May 17 (Friday May 18 I have
a ticket to the Keith Urban concert…can’t wait for
that!!!) Then on Saturday 19 I will be performing in the
Dandenong’s as part of the 3MDR fundraiser to be held at
“Elevations at Emerald” . Oh and then back to Sydney on
Sunday 20 for a special fundraising Cruise on the Harbour.
This Thursday 12th April, I am again hosting “Canterbury
Country” as Bob Howe is away cruising the ocean
somewhere…… come and join in the fun this month as we
present “Angels and Honky Tonk” of course the Hillbilly
Heaven Band are the Angels!!!
Check out the gig guide below for more up and coming gigs.
If you would like a weekly gig guide sent to you then
email
bryenwillems@optusnet.com.au and you will gladly
be put on the list(that’s if you don’t already receive
