Satellite V have been out there. Charged up from drinkin’ ‘white lightnin’. We’re coming at ya like a cut down hotrod draggin’ down Main Street.

 

Formed in early 1997, Tim Knuckey and Steve Wood gathered some twin harmony Honky Tonk material. The boys strung together a five piece line-up, including members from ‘Dobbs and the Ludebakers’, ‘The Dancehall Racketeers’, ‘The Buckskins’, ‘The Prickles’ and Peter Baylors’‘Stringbusters’.

 

The fabulous ‘V’ have since reprioritised their mission, retreating to the control module, they’ve recruited the ‘twangin' guitar talents of ‘Big Daddy Roy’ Roy Payne and put a tractor beam on various drummers, more recently veteran Rhythm Maestro, Rob Souter. The fellers have long been fans of what we now call roots music, be it Blues, Jazz, Swing or the older style ‘country music’.

 

Tim is the notorious ‘Dobbs’ of ‘The Ludebaker’ kind, a popular Rockabilly and Western Swing Sydney act in the early ¢ 80’s. With a new Fender amp and six strings on the old guitar he’s rounded up the boys to fill a niche in Australia’s’ live music scene.

 

Satellite V have combined their original music with authentic 50’s sounds to create a unique hybrid of Rockabilly, Hillbilly, Western Swing and Jump Blues. They’ve proved to be a favourite with the folks in the know. ‘Hail, Bop Comet!’ their 1^st release was a huge success, and is full of toe tappin’ jiveable tracks such as "Washing Machine Boogie" along with twisted originals like "The Creature" (lamenting lost love and the slippery charms of ‘the gillman’, ‘Cane Cutter Boogie’ where cane toads burn alive, and "Hail, Bop!" the CDs theme song that describes the folly of "Bo Beep" and the demise of the Heavenly Gate Cult.

 

With steady gigging around and about, word has quickly spread that Satellite V are a must for Rockers & Honky tonk jivers. 1999 saw the band head to Coolangatta's Wintersun Rock ‘n’ Roll weekend. Wowing the crowds like Ed Kretz hill climbing an Indian Sport Scout, the Crazy Cats were asked back for 2000. They also featured at ‘Greazefest’ as ‘The Troglodyte Hillbilly Cannibals’, and have since been invited to perform at ‘The Great Southern International Blues and Rockabilly Festival’ in Narooma.

Their 2^nd album ‘Groove Juice’ was unleashed on waiting fans in June 2000 combining fuel injected original tunes – The law abiding "Speed Limit Daddy", outlaw biker "Beatles miss you Johnny", interstellar "Satellite Boogie", and rubber burnin’ "Hillbilly Nitro". Satellite V have established a bent & rockin’ angle on this thing they call Atomic Hillbilly. The two CDs are distributed all over this doggone planet and can be easily purchased through M.G.M. in Australia, in the US from Hepcat records, and through Fury records in the UK.
