“My heart will always beat
for wildlife.”

“Crikey!”
What a privilege to wander through
The grounds of Australia Zoo,
Admiring the Irwin family and friends’
Conservation work with still so much to do.
-
Koalas, wombats and kangaroos,
All proudly on display.
Fruit to feed majestic elephants,
While Asian otters run and play.
Crocs snoozing in their ponds
Ignore the passing crowd,
Tigers swimming in a clear pool,
Make cautious handlers proud.
Camels and howling dingoes,
Slithery snakes handlers entwine,
Colourful macaws, rosellas, owls,
The birds are brilliantly divine.
Steve, the Irwin legacy will endure,
Wild animals beloved by you,
Parents, Bob and Lyn paved the way for
The magnificence of Australia Zoo.
Your love for Terri, Bindi and Bob
On display for all to see,
What a privilege to visit
Australia Zoo and wholeheartedly agree:
Steve, your adventures are legendary!
On the big screen, a vision to enthral,
Pitting strength against the crocodiles,
Your Aussie words are loved by all.
-
“Crikey!“,
“What a beauty!”
“Isn’t she gorgeous!”
“My mission, my passion to save wildlife”.
“Hey, True Blue”
Your words hold sway,
We now appreciate conservation,
The Steve and Terri Irwin Way.
Your mission is accomplished
The wildlife baton handed on,
Terri, Bindi, Bob and friends will continue
Australia Zoo where endangered animals belong.
Steve, a Wildlife Warrior
An Australian Legend,
Keep smiling, Crocs rule!
Your vision will never end.

STEVE IRWIN - NO ORDINARY BLOKE

We're sorry we never met you Steve
We're sorry we were too late
To shake your hand, say thank you
Face to face, mate to mate.
You lived a full life every day
Shared adventures with us all
Perched us on the edge of seats
Made sure we had a ball.
But Steve, you never knew
Why we'll miss you so
We saw a true blue Ozzie
Always willing to 'have a go'.
A man of integrity, trust, and honour
With character and conviction
Epitomising our proud heritage
A man of pure distinction.
In a world increasingly devoid
Of people we could admire
You filled our void, you filled our need
For someone to inspire.
You didn't carry any airs
You didn't walk with grace
But by crikey we won't forget your cause
And we'll never forget your face.
You helped us see your vision
We saw you work so hard
We even saw you chip in
Helping blokes down in the yards.
We loved your cheeky humour
We loved the mischievous elf
Never uptight, Never too proud
To take the mickey out of yourself.
We're sorry we never met you Steve
We're sorry we were too late
To shake your hand, say thank you
Face to face, mate to mate.

THE CROCODILES ARE CRYING
Endless visions fill my head – this man – as large as life
And instantly my heart mourns for his angels and his wife
Because the way I see Steve Irwin – just put everything aside
It comes back to his family – it comes back to his pride
-
His animals inclusive – Crikey – light the
place with love!
Shine his star with everything he fought to rise above
The crazy-man of Khaki from the day he left the pouch
Living out his dream and in that classic ‘Stevo’ crouch
Exploding forth with character and redefining cheek
It’s one thing to be honoured as a champion unique
It’s one thing to have microphones and spotlight cameras shoved
It’s another to be taken in and genuinely loved
But that was where he had it right – I guess he always knew
From his fathers’ modest reptile park and then Australia Zoo
We cringed at times and shook our heads – but true to natures call
There was something very Irwin in the make up of us all
Yes the more I care to think of it – the more he had it right
If you’re going to make a difference – make it big and make it
bright!
Yes - he was a lunatic! Yes - he went head first!
But he made the world feel happy with his energetic burst
A world so large and loyal that it’s hard to comprehend
I doubt we truly count the warmth until life meets an end
To count it now I say a prayer with words of inspiration
May the spotlight shine forever on his dream for conservation
…My daughter broke the news to me – my six year old in tears
It was like she’d just turned old enough to show her honest fears
I tried to make some sense of it but whilst her Dad was trying
His little girl explained it best…she said “The crocodiles are
crying”
Their best mate’s up in heaven now – the crocs up there are smiling!
And as sure as flowers, poems and cards and memories are piling
As sure as we’ll continue with the trademarks of his spiel
Of all the tributes worthy – he was rough…but he was real
As sure as ‘Crikey!’ fills the sky
I think we’ll miss ya Steve…goodbye

Goodbye Crocodile Hunter
Words & Music Colin Buchanan © 2006 Universal Music (Aust.)
1. Wasn't he a beauty
Crikey what a gem
A dinkum Aussie treasure
A khaki larrakin
Throwin' it all out there
Doin' what he'd do
You'd better duck for cover
Cos Steve is comin' through
2. Crazy as a cut snake
Bold as any man
He'd dive onto a crocodile
Hold spiders in his hand
Dodge a deadly brown snake
With big-eyed, "Holy Smoke!"
You could like him
You could loathe him
But you couldn't miss the bloke
CHORUS
And wasn't he a beauty
Crikey what a gem
A dinkum Aussie treasure
A khaki larrakin
Throwin' it all out there
With his heart upon his sleeve
Goodbye
Crocodile Hunter
Farewell Steve
3. He loved those deadly creatures
He gave the bush his all
The nastier the moment
The more he had a ball
1000 miles a minute
A showman to the core
He'd take a bit of bark off
And keep comin' back for more...
CHORUS
And wasn't he a beauty
Crikey what a gem
A dinkum Aussie treasure
A khaki larrakin
Throwin' it all out there
With his heart upon his sleeve
Goodbye
Crocodile Hunter
Farewell Steve Goodbye
Crocodile Hunter
Farewell Steve
Farewell Steve

I WISH I WERE A CROCODILE
We were gathered at a barbie down at Bazzas by the bay
And the blokes were watching Rugby on a World Cup Saturday.
But the lounge became a henhouse where the girls hung out that
night,
And a dozen giggling sheilas are a rather sick’ning site.
They were gathered ‘round the tele and they watched a video
Where that blond haired bloke in khaki says, “Hey Crikey ... here’s
a go!”
He would sneak up on a crocodile and wrestle that large brute
And the girls would cry excitedly, “ Oh Steve you are so cute!”
Yes they’d sigh and gasp in concord when Steve Irwin cracked his
smile
And a dreamy eyed expression was implanted on each dial.
Then a loud resounding chorus echoed out in harmony
“Oh I wish I were a crocodile and Steve would wrestle me!”
Now we reckon if they want a smile that’s manly; well then shucks;
They should cop George Gregan’s pearly whites their worth a million
bucks.
And that cuddling poor old crocodiles to us was really tame;
Let him try to maul a Kiwi or a Springbok if he’s game.
And that sickly untucked Khaki look, it really is a joke,
But the green and gold looks ripper and real bonzer on a bloke.
Still the banter fell on deaf ears and us blokes we were ignored,
While Steve’s antics kept them mesmerized and far from being bored.
Yes they’d sigh and gasp in concord when Steve Irwin cracked his
smile
And a dreamy eyed expression was implanted on each dial.
Then a loud resounding chorus echoed out in harmony
“Oh I wish I were a crocodile and Steve would wrestle me!”
So us blokes we cheered more loudly when the Wallabies went in
And we’d drown their girly chorus with our raucous, rowdy din.
That was ‘til the Springboks beat us and our cheers went out the
door.
And the beer went flat and tasteless and we couldn’t take no more.
We all went into a huddle with a beer can in our hand,
Then we marched into the lounge room to play out what we had
planned.
Just as Steve jumped on a whopper and cried, “Crikey here’s a go!”
All us blokes we chucked the towel in and just sat and watched the
show.
Yes we sighed and gasped in concord when Steve Irwin cracked his
smile
And a dreamy eyed expression was implanted on each dial.
Then a loud resounding chorus echoed out in harmony
“Oh I wish I were a crocodile and Steve would wrestle me!”
