Melinda Schneider
“BALLS” Nominated for Prestigious US Award
Melinda Schneider’s song Sometimes It Takes Balls To Be A Woman has just been announced as a finalist for Song of The Year at the prestigious 2007 Americana Music Awards in Nashville. Schneider wrote the song with long-time songwriting collaborator and friend Elizabeth Cook, who subsequently recorded the song on her recently released Rodney Crowell-produced album. Cook felt strongly enough about the song to call her album ‘Balls’ and release it as the first single. Both writers are now very excited to be finalists amongst a particularly strong field of incredible female artists in this year’s awards. Schneider also recorded Sometimes It Takes Balls To Be A Woman on her most recent album ‘Stronger’, and the song is set to be released in Australia in coming months.

What is Americana Music?
”Americana is American roots music based on the traditions of country. While the musical model can be traced back to the Elvis Presley marriage of hillbilly and R&B that birthed rock 'n' roll, Americana as a radio format developed during the 1990s as a reaction to the highly polished sound that defined the mainstream music of that decade. By also including influences ranging from folk to bluegrass to blues and beyond, Americana handily bridges the gap between Triple A radio and mainstream country.”
