RUNNING HITS THE MARK FOR
SWEENEYKILLEEN
Female duo SweeneyKilleen have made their mark as newcomers at the
34th CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia, with their inclusion as
finalists in New Talent Of The Year, with their latest single RUNNING.
Originally from New Zealand and regional Victoria, it was at the 2000
Australian Country Music College, that Nikki Sweeney and Tracy Lee Killeen
formed SweeneyKilleen. They are great friends who are vibrant and
talented, sharing a passion for country music.
To be included with such talents as Samantha McClymont, The Sunny
Cowgirls, Paul Costa & Karl Broadie, all vying for the New Talent Of The
Year, puts a smile on the girls faces. They are happy to have achieved a
finalist nomination and cannot wait to be apart of the awards on January
28.
Now based in Sydney, they released their album ALONG FOR THE RIDE, earlier
this year, with the help of Blue Mountains based producer Roger Corbett.
Named 2005 Akubra Hat Cedar Awards Duo Of The Year, the duo have also made
the upcoming ACMLA Peoples Choice Awards for Best Group/Duo Of The Year,
to be announced in January.
The first single THE RIVER ROSE hit Top 10 success on the airplay charts.
With the follow-up single RUNNING (nfs #100 track 9) written by Roger
Corbett, debuting on the Top 30 Country Tracks chart this week at #30.
A video clip is also available in support of the new single.

Contemporary.... Yeee Haaaa!
Hi Everyone,
Can you believe how close Christmas is...eeek!!
SweeneyKilleen were once more kept busy with performances at the Kempsey
Country Music & Trucking Festival and Mildura Country Music Festival.
Kempsey was fantastic and we were lucky to have wonderful musicians at the
festival with us, guitarist Lance Galloway and drummer David Maude,
thanks
guys!..... Don't know whether they liked being called the
SweeneyKilleenettes, but we thought it was quite appropriate!
We were honored to receive the 2005 Akubra Hat Award for Duo of the
Year, thanks so much to the committee and all involved with the Kempsey
Festival, we absolutely love what we do and to be acknowledged for our
achievements is a bonus! It was great to catch up with friends, Deb
Minter,
Carol Donovan and many more familiar faces, and all our dedicated fans,
thank you for your continued support.
Mildura was fantastic as always, with plenty of independent talent shining
through.. It was so great to see and catch up with friends in the industry
and the fans were faithful as ever, come rain or shine, and ready to have
a
great time, a big thanks to John Arnold and team for another smoothly run
festival, it's a credit to them all. We had such great CD sales and really
appreciate the fans support, especially with the current cost of petrol,
it
was amazing to see all the people queuing up to support all the artists!!
See
you there next year!
We were delighted to get the feedback, regarding sales at the Gympie
Muster
2005, from One Stop Entertainment (Thanks team for all your hard work!) to
discover we were in the top 5 for highest selling independent act, a huge
thank you to all our supporters who buy and continue to buy our albums,
'FUN' and 'ALONG FOR THE RIDE', we cannot thank you enough.
Our second single, 'RUNNING', our homage to busy mothers everywhere who
are
constantly 'running' around after their children (we salute you), taken
from
our latest album 'ALONG FOR THE RIDE', is out now on radio! Listen out for
it on all good country stations and if you love it, don't be shy, let the
radio stations know...hint hint.. We are really proud of this track,
written
by Roger Corbett, as we both have wonderful parents who ran around after
us,
taking us everywhere to perform and we wouldn't have gotten this far
without
them....."Running all night and day,1.2.3......running, but she's not
getting paid!"
We will be having a quiet October, as Nikki is overseas in Europe for 4
weeks, and Tracy will be rejuvenating with friends and family... but when
November rolls around it will be full steam ahead!
We will be looking forward to performing at Antill Golf Club Picton, Pitt
Town Sporting Club, Mendoran CM Festival, Ingleburn RSL, Adelaide CM
Club...phew, that should keep us occupied and out of trouble for quite
some
time. We hope to see you somewhere down the track, and until then take
care......
Yeeee Haaaaaa!

APRIL - MAY 2005
Hi Everyone!
Well since the New Year we have been having a wonderful time performing
our new material from our new album 'Along For The Ride' all over the
countryside!
We are continuing to promote our new single The River Rose released on
country radio in March (http://www.nfspublicity.com.au/) with help from
RUM Entertainment. (Thanks Bec!). We are stoked with the response we've
had from our fans and the radio airplay we're getting from presenters is
tremendous... BIG thank you!
Speaking of radio, we were especially thrilled to have a chat 19th March
with radio guru Nick Erby on CMR 2TM Tamworth and an Album of the Week
spot. We hope you were able to listen wherever you were...
It was a real buzz to be performing again at Canowindra NSW for the
Marti's Balloon Fiesta - Australia's biggest hot air ballooning festival
held on the Anzac long weekend. We were there in 2003 and it was just as
magic to see the amazing fireworks display and Balloon Glow of ALL the
balloons.
...Guess what? We actually went up in the Cadbury Crème Egg hot air
balloon (how could we resist the chocolate balloon?! Although - we were
disappointed it wasn't full of créme eggs!! he he he) ...aside from that,
it was a truly AWESOME experience. The atmosphere is so surreal and still
and quiet...well not entirely quiet with us around! We'll make sure we put
a pic in our next newsletter - if we look ok that is - it was 6am!!
We finally ventured up to the Hexham Bowling Club NSW on Wednesday 27th
April where they hold a country night every Wednesday. We say 'finally'
because Rob Wilson and Alby Pool have been asking us for a while now to
come up so it was great to be able to get up there and do our thing. It is
such neat night and really wonderful to have such a loyal and supportive
audience there every week. We can't wait to get back there!
Antill Golf Club in Picton NSW is coming up for us again on Friday 6th
May. We always love going there especially for the opportunity to catch up
with and the local crowd including our friends Frankie T Thatcher and
Britton.
As we mentioned in our last newsletter, we were heading up to Telarah
Country Music Festival in March... here's a cheeky pic (above) of
performing the finale with fellow artists Matt Frost, Travis Collins and
Donna Boyd, and again (left) with Matt Frost.
...well that's all from us for now but - as we've said before - don't be
shy...hint hint...ring up your local radio station and request 'The River
Rose'!
Safe and happy travels!
Nikki and Tracy :)

Working Man #12 on CM Chart
-
Howdy everyone!
We’ve recently come back from our travels to the Mildura CM festival and
2PK Parkes CM festival that were held a few weeks ago. We always have a
great time at Mildura performing at all the different venues and catching
up with our fans we see there every year and also our country music
buddies – including Kylie Harris - Kiwi entertainer living in Nashville
(second of mine - Nikki) in between all of our spots here and there. We
didn’t have a pig out session of chocolate and rockyroad…. we don’t where
that misleading information came from! He he he… We also recorded some
radio ID’s for radio presenters Elsie and Col of ‘Our kinda country’!
We’ve been trying to do them for the last three years at Mildura and
finally found the time to hook up together! Listen out for us on their
radio show!
The first thing we did when we rocked up to cute country town of Parkes
was hit the shops! We are in our element when we’re on stage performing
but shopping is our other passion and we love the chance to shop til we
drop!! (Now you know the words in the song FUN! are based on true
events!). We had a night off before getting down to business so we enjoyed
a home cooked meal of bangers and mash at the hotel we stayed at… bliss!
It was the first time we have performed at the festival in Parkes. We had
a wonderful band – The Palmer Brothers playing for us and thoroughly
enjoyed the friendly family atmosphere throughout the weekend. We also
really enjoyed the opportunity to judge the local talent quest that was
held over the weekend.
The St Arnaud Country Music Hoe Down And Truck Show has just been and gone
too! We had a real neat trip getting there with – a ‘cruisey’ 4-hour drive
from Melbourne and stops in Castlemaine’s groovy cafes there and back…
another luxury we don’t often have time for on the road! A BIG thanks to
Jenny, Ann, Des, Trudy and other committee members for putting on a great
festival and spoiling us!
Well we are very excited about how our new album is coming along!! It’s
wonderful hearing so many people letting us know that they can’t wait to
hear it… don’t worry we’ll keep you posted for sure - when it’s ready –
where you can get!
We are looking forward to gigging at the Antil Park Golf Club in Picton
again in November. Also the festival in Tamworth next year and we will be
setting a date for the launch of our new album – to be released at the
Canterbury Hurlstone RSL hopefully in February… watch this space!
Safe travels!
Keep it country!
Nikki & Tracy :)

Well Hi everyone
-
– it’s been a while since we’ve written a
newsletter – oh my goodness - where is this year going?? September
already!!
On Father’s Day we performed at the Shell Harbour Workerman’s Club – and
were so surprised how many people ventured out in the thunderstorms and
lightening – good sports! On the same weekend we performed for the first
time at the Antill Park Golf Club in Picton. It was great to catch up with
Frankie-T and Britton there. In fact the whole evening was a very social
atmosphere with families and friends dining and drinking – having a very
merry time!
The Gympie Muster in Qld held late August has definitely been a highlight
for us this year… we with intimate venues and full audiences in all 4 of
our shows – we tried out some of our new material on our second album and
were pleased we got the ‘thumbs up’ for them.
One Stop Entertainment did a great job with helping us sell lots and lots
of our FUN album… CD’s were set up in the venue where we performed this
year for the first time during the Muster – so we were able to enjoy
seeing familiar faces and meeting lots of new fans in a lot more relaxed
manner… not having to rush off to the CD store tent. Good work One Stop!
Meeting our radio interviewer mate – Daryl Kirkup was a very pleasant
surprise! It’s always neat to put a face to the voice on the other end of
the phone! Hope everything is going well up there in 4AAA Murri Country
Daryl! We also caught up with the ABC team and Trish and team from Mt Isa
on the radio waves… big Hello!
We travelled to Moama CM Festival in VIC a couple of months ago (July) and
aside from being crazy cold – was great fun! The bowling club was the
venue and despite lots of renovations going on around everyone kicked
their heels up and got in to the spirit of it.
Mildura CM festival
http://www.milduracountrymusic.com.au /
is coming up real soon so we’ll be there for the most of it but this year
will be heading to 2PK Parkes CM festival held in the first weekend of
October… might catch you at one of them!
We’re progressing well with the new album with Roger Corbett – going
through the process of finding and writing new material is an exciting
time and we’re hoping we will be ready for sale by Christmas (our CD that
is!).
Safe travels!
Keep it country!

SweeneyKilleen, Nikki Sweeney & Tracy
Lee Killeen are gearing up for their trips to the Northern Territory
to the Katherine Country Music Muster and Norfolk Island Country Music
Festival – April / May. They are very excited to perform their music
in such wonderful locations! There is a really neat web site for the
Katherine Muster – to check it out go to
www.kcmm.com.au
The dynamic duo have enjoyed the
success of their debut album – in particular their chart success with
Plastic Princess going to No. 17 on the National charts and their Top
10 nomination in the 2004 Toyota Gold Guitars for the video for
Plastic Princess.
After two highly charged singles from their debut album FUN,
SweeneyKilleen settled back with the powerful ‘Working Man’. The new
single continues to have tremendous feedback – on country radio and
also at their live performances being one of their most requested live
songs.
For the next few months SweeneyKilleen will also be working towards
their second album focussing on new material and are really looking
forward to recording again.

NEW SINGLE
Working Man
NFS Release # 85
Track 12
SweeneyKilleen are back with their third single release 'Working Man',
from their debut album 'FUN'.
2003 was a standout year for Sweeneykilleen (Nikki Sweeney and Tracy
Killeen) with major festivals like the Gympie Muster and Mildura, but
right near the top of the list has to be the chart success of their last
single Plastic Princess. The song rose to a top 20 slot on the national
country charts, making their familiar smiles even bigger.
The energy and talent of this duo is well recognised by the country
industry and fans alike, and their album continues to receive enthusiastic
reviews from around the nation.
After two highly charged singles, the pair settles back with the powerful
'Working Man', one of their most requested songs at their live shows, and
it is their salute to all the hard working men and women throughout
Australia and New Zealand.
'
Working Man', a song close to our hearts, as we both come from families
with a strong work ethic - farming to be specific. It is one of our most
requested songs at our live shows, and is our salute to all the hard
working
men and women throughout Australia and New Zealand.
... so please play it loud and proud!!
Thanking you for your support of our first singles Fun and Plastic
Princess,
hoping you can continue that support with track 12 on Nfs 85, the
compelling
'Working Man'.
Hi everyone,
Wow the time is flying!
We released our second single this
‘Plastic Princess’, on country radio in June. The new single is a cheeky
and mischievous take on the pursuit of plastic perfection. (Track 4 on the
album if you have it!). Play it lots… play it loud!
If
you want to buy our album – you can go to our ‘links’ while you are online
www.sweeneykilleen.com
and click on the HMV link – it’s as easy as that!
We were really stoked with response we had
with our first single – the title track of our debut album, FUN! It was on
the national charts for five weeks.
We were busy in July off stage filming a
video clip in Sale – Gippsland VIC, for our new single ‘Plastic
Princess’. It was a lot of fun – and hard work at the same time! We
caught up with friends and of course Tracy’s family, as that is her old
‘stomping ground’! We had lovely home cooked meals and lots of fresh
country air!
So…..Keep a look out for us bopping around
on pay TV – the Country Music channel CMC!
We were Finalists in the Coopers Golden
Saddle Award in conjunction with the Galston Country Music Festival,
Sydney 2003. It was neat to find out that nominees are chosen for their
“…outstanding ability as Independent Artists by ‘Industry Spotters’
Australia wide”.
Nikki is heading to Adelaide soon and will
be catching up with Don Shaw in Victor Harbour again. Listen out for the
radio interview on Saturday 23rd Aug between 12pm – 2pm (S.A
time) on 5EFM Victor Harbour.
It was at the Tamworth College of Country
Music 2000, that two
unique country artists came together and
formed SweeneyKilleen.
With their combination of
humour, fun and
distinctive sound,
this charismatic
duo both capture and entertain any audience.
SweeneyKilleen
are Nikki
Sweeney and
Tracy Lee Killeen.
Apart from becoming great friends, Nikki and Tracy realised they shared a
passion for country music and their voices came together in a
unique blend.
With that they formed their duo and made the big decision to leave their
homes in New Zealand and country Victoria to follow their dream. They
are now both based in Sydney NSW
Australia.
SweeneyKilleen
are a breath of fresh country air. Their live performance is full of
energy and their
laughter infectious. Having
fun is what it’s all about for these two and this certainly shines
through.
Speaking
of fun, SweeneyKilleen
launched their debut album FUN
produced by Gold Guitar nominee Roger
Corbett in Sydney NSW 14th
Nov 2002. The title track FUN, hit the Australian Country Music Charts
for 5 consecutive weeks.
SweeneyKilleen
were Finalists in the Coopers Golden Saddle Award in conjunction with the
Galston Country Music Festival, Sydney 2003. Nominees are chosen for
their outstanding ability as Independent Artists by “Industry Spotters”
Australia wide.
Performing at the festivals in Tamworth are always major highlights for
SweeneyKilleen. They have recently returned from the
‘Hat’s Off To Woman of Country’
performing at the West Leagues Club, in Inverell with
Jim Haynes,
with the
Bushwackers
and
winding it up performing on the
CMAA Roundup Concert.
Tamworth
Country Music Festival, Jan 2003
was a busy time for SweeneyKilleen performing pre-festival at the West
Leagues Club & during the festival, hosting their own Breakfast shows at
the Tamworth RSL, including regular guest appearances on
The Jim
Haynes Breakfast Show.
They
were especially excited to be the support act for Gold Guitar winner
Sara Storer,
in her first sell out shows at Tamworth and also with appearances with
The Bushwackers
and the
CMAA College of Country Music ‘Out there doin’ it’ Concert.
Together,
they are dedicated to launch a professional career in Country Music and
are working towards their ultimate goal of becoming successful Country
Music Entertainers and recording artists. They have hit the Country Music
festival scene for 2003 with great enthusiasm!
“SweeneyKilleen
has swept on to the Australian country music scene like a true breath of
fresh air. There is no pretence with these girls – no need for attitude
or angst. They entertain simply by being themselves, and by singing up a
storm.” Susan Jarvis, Country Music Capital News April 03.
