Barnstormin’
- Through Sydney
That country band from the city, the Sweetie
Darlin’ Sweeties, have been
hootin’ and hollerin’ their way through Sydney — via Tamworth — for
the past
couple of years, but have recently spurred their horses to a gallop.
Fresh from
an appearance at The Shed at the Royal Easter Show, they are playing
at the
Crows Nest Country Music Festival on Sunday 30 April
at 10.45 a.m.
and then turning their steeds north for a show at the Mona Vale
Hotel that afternoon. Further northern beaches shows follow.
The Sweetie Darlin’ Sweeties take retro tunes
covering the gamut from country rock to the blues, rockabilly,
hillbilly and traditional Country &Western and add their own
absolutely fabulous twist (including some original material),
transforming the way country music is perceived by a non-country
audience, while also appealing to the purists. ’Cos they do it with
love. And respect.
And tongues firmly planted in their cheeks.
Fans of Johnny Cash, Nancy Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Loretta Lynn,
Tammy Wynette, the original Sun Studios recordings and, um,
‘Rawhide’ will not be disappointed.
And neither will punters turning up to be entertained. For the
Sweetie Darlin’ Sweeties are made up of 4
stunning cowgals and 2 roughshod cowboys dressed to light up the
prairies and totally into their music. Two rockin’ gals on guitars,
another belting her li’l country heart out, and one more shaking her
moves and percussing on the side
are backed up by a blokey rhythm section.
So who needs the Grand Ole Opry?
Cash in that ticket to Nashville and hoof on down to the
Sweetie Darlin’ Sweeties instead – they’re 10
times the fun as Johnny Cash in his Folsom Prison prime, 5 times as
sweet as that apple-pie gal Nancy Sinatra, and they have enough
County &Western attitude to send Elvis packing back to his bluegrass
roots.
The Sweetie Darlin’ Sweeties are the first and last word in country
covers –
guaranteed to get you back on the horse, every time.
Band members are available for interview. Images are available upon
