Toe Sucking Cowgirls

Well, a big GIDDAY from a very soggy place! I've been rained in here at
Daly River for the last few days and am getting a bit nervous as to whether
I'm going to make it out in time for our next lot of gigs! It's been raining
pretty much constantly for the last week and there could even be a cyclone forming
off Darwin!
Katherine river is rising and Daly River Community is starting
to call together an evacuation plan! Our good friends The Walsh family in
Katherine are preparing to get wet feet. i only hope it's not another 98 flood!!!
Aah, life in the tropical north in monsoon season.

NEXT GIGS! This is just a quick little blurb to let you all know we'll be
in Sydney next weekend for the Hawkesbury Fiddle festival up at Clarendon
Showgrounds:
Fri 7pm - 8pm
Sat 1pm - 2pm
Sun 12pm -1pm
And we'll be doing a workshop around 4.30pm on Sat "Roadkill Roadrage
and Roadhouse Food" for those of you planning on taking off into the wide
blue yonder in search of the Aussie dream! We'll have a few tips on how
to survive on the road using only what you'd find in a Cowgirl's handbag.
Mind you our handbags have been known to carry everything but the kitchen sink!
There'll be a few tunes as well as a few travelling tales guaranteed to give you
a giggle.

Then on Sunday night we'll be heading back to one of our favourite haunts
in Sydney, the Botany View Hotel from 6.30-9.30pm. Mike Vidale will be
joining us on bass and Paul Dunn on drums, two guys that were there at
the very beginning of the Cowgirls. We don't know when we'll be back in Sydney
again, and as Gleny has decided to call it quits and move onto greener pastures,
it could very well be our last gig ever! Unless, of course, I can find someone
to fill her extremely large (and smelly) boots, though I must say, female
accordion/fiddle players with an oversize personality and a great voice are a
little thin on the ground.
So get out there and spread the word and dust off your hats and boots and come
down and join us for a big weekend!

Yeehaar!!!
It's almost that time again when we make our annual pilgrimage to the Capital of Country Music to catch up with old friends over a beer and to make new ones in the toilet queue. Amazing who you can meet in that narrow hallway... and the stories you hear! Look out for the book "Tales from a Tamworth Toilet" - a gutwrenching read.
But before we descend on that beloved city, it's off to wonderful Woodford forAustralia's largest festival. Six days and nights, mornings and afternoons of festivities: music and masked balls, film and forums, circus and comedy, poets and plenty of pints of BEER. Lead us to the Guinness bar! Tickets for the festival are only available online and will sell out, so get them early.

Back to Tamworth gigs. This coming festival will be all over bar the shouting (your shout that is!) for us after the first weekend as we only have four shows.
We'll be kickstarting our festival at the Goonoo Goonoo Room at the Longyard on Saturday afternoon. Somewhere you can sit down and enjoy the show with a kick ass sound system and plenty of room to table dance if the urge takes you (not much room up front I'm afraid). Tickets $18 available at the door.

Then we're off to the Family Hotel on Saturday night where you'll have ample opportunity to kick up your heels and get showered in our sweat in the process. Thong slappers are most welcome! Bring along your best open footwear for a chance to win our fabulous Flip Flop Fashion Award. Get creative!(best bring those boring shoes as well in case dress regs don’t allow this classy footwear) There’ll be a few more surprises as well. It's only a small venue so pre-sold ticket holders best get there early so we can seat you first, then it'll be whoever we can fit in after that. Back to the Family on Sunday night for our showcase of Northern Territory talent, "Crocs and Cyclones". I'm sure you'll be blown away by the awesome Neil Murray, and the talented Tom Curtain will have you smiling like a snappy handbag! Other guests include Martin Oakes, Matt Scullion, Jackie Izod, 2005 Telstra road to Tamworth finalist Jessica Mauboy and 2006 Tamworth CMAA College Graduate Marcus Meier and of course the Cowgirls. Phew, what a night. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm sharp, so get in and get your bums on seats early. Tickets $10 presale from Tourism Tamworth or $15 at the door.

A new one for us this year will be our "Cowgirls and Friends" night at the Tamworth City Bowlo on Monday night. We had a great show there last year and it was such a fantastic small intimate venue, we thought it would be ideal for an up close and personal kind of thing where we can invite all our musically talented friends up for a bit of a singalong (maybe even some talented in other areas as well?!). They were all in the audience last year so it makes sense to get them up and do something rather than just sitting on their bums heckling us! Come dressed as your favourite Cowgirl/boy, a great opportunity to dust off those sequined chaps and six shooters! Keep your eye on our gigs page for updates on who'll be there.

Aside from Woodford and Tamworth, we have a few more festivals over the coming months and hopefully we’ll be back to a few of our old haunts in between.
Thankyou to all of you who have been supporting us over the years by coming to our gigs, buying our CD (and beers for us), putting us up on your couch, requesting our songs on radio and playing our music. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou! We love you all. Keep it up and we’ll be saying move over Dolly and Shania before they can say Toe Sucking Cowgirls Thirteen Thongs!!!

We hope you all have a fantastic Xmas and New Year and, fingers crossed, next year will bring peace and prosperity to everyone… or at least a few good parties!

Gidday all!
Well, it’s been a good couple of months since the Cowgirls have seen any road action, and I must say we have been enjoying home sweet home and all it’s trimmings…the same bed every night (with the same bloke sometimes), having a vege garden with lots of herbs, somewhere to put all the junk (boxes and boxes of cowgirls CDs), having children (furry 4 legged ones), starting a wine cellar (that one seems to be taking some time as the wine doesn’t seem to last long enough to make it to the cellar!). It’s also nice to have a spare bed handy for all of you that have put us up (and put up with us) in case your ever up Daly River way and need a camping spot, or a spare couch at Gleny’s place if your visiting Brunswick Heads.
Regardless of us not being on the road, cowgirl stuff still needs to be attended to and our album, Thirteen Thongs, needs to be shoved at radio people and the like to get our music out there (and move some units from under the bed!) We’ve had some really great reviews (see our website) and some fantastic radio DJs out there have been giving the album a good work out on their turntables – a BIG thank-you to all of you who have played our CD on your show.
If there are any radio folk that don’t yet have a copy of our album and you’d like to add it to your stations library, drop us a line and we’ll get a copy out to you asap.
Also for all you listeners, please call up your local radio station and request our songs. If they haven’t heard of us, tell them they’re missing out on some great new Aussie talent, and if they don’t have the album, tell them to contact us and we’ll send them one! How can we achieve world domination if no-one is playing our music?!
Work on the website is happening, though a little slowly. New stuff just added includes reviews of both of our CDs on the HAVE A LISTEN page, a couple of new photos (with more to come on a gallery page.) Still got heaps to do but please be patient with me, I’m still on my “L” plates!
Well we’ve got a couple of gigs coming up for all you Darwin and Katherine mob, or for anyone passing through in October. (See the dates at the bottom of this mail-out.)

One not to miss will be the Mini Muster in Katherine with our mates the Red Hot Poker Dots. It’s a fundraiser for Kerry Diehm, of whom some of you will know from all her tireless work with the Katherine Muster over the last 5 years. Recently Kerry was diagnosed with lung cancer, and while the outlook is very positive, the ongoing treatment has been a major drain on the family resources. Gleny came up with the idea when she realized the Poker Dots would be touring through Katherine at the same time as the Cowgirls. It’ll be an ideal chance for people to come together in support for a woman who has done a great deal for country music in the Territory and to have some fun at the same time. It’ll be a gold coin donation but you are allowed to put more in the bucket if you’re feeling generous - and we hope you will be! There’ll be raffles and a Country Music Trivia Quiz for those of you who want to test your musical knowledge with prizes including CDs and merchandise from Australian country music artists. Jimbo the Clown and face-painters will be there to keep the kids out of your hair (and your beer). So all in all it’s going to be a great day.
Aside from that we’ll be doing a short stint at Mindil Markets as a warm up to our only Darwin Show at the Groove on Sat 15th. It’s only a small venue so book early.
So far next year looks promising with Woodford Folk Festival over the New Year, then Tamworth for 4 shows in Jan and a couple more festivals and gigs in the pipeline. We’ll update you as we get confirmation. We hope you’re all enjoying the spring weather or getting hot and sweaty (in the best possible way!) if you’re up North like us. Thanks to you all for hangin’ in there while we have an extended break, we’ve definitely needed one! See you at the next gig where we’ll be refreshed and back into it with all the Cowgirl energy and enthusiasm we can muster. Gidday all! (time to start talking aus)
Well we’ve got our new cd “Thirteen Thongs” out and it’s been selling like bomb shelters in Baghdad. We’ve been getting some good airplay all over the country and even overseas…we made number 30 on the charts in Toronto! And that was with our last cd “Flamin Sheilas”; wait till they get Thirteen Thongs. Thanks to Elizabeth Burroughs from Austrade who passed a cd onto Ron Burd at CUI FM Radio Toronto. Hit Country in Geelong have our single Winds of Change on high rotation and we’ve been having a bit of fun with a couple of djs from the station, Ron Cockell (pronounced Cerkell, be careful now!) and Kevin Wilson who we met at Whittlesea. Thanks to all the radio folk that have been playing our single on the NfS 93 compilation. If you’d like a copy of the album, please get in touch as we’d be more than happy to send one out to you.

At Tamworth this year we showcased our new cd and the musicians playing on it, the awesome Ray ‘Papa Bear’ Cullen on pedal steel and Lindsay Martin on fiddle and mandolin as well as the usual suspects, Sam ‘Bobcat’ Martin on double bass and Grant ‘Hotrod’ Bedford on standup snare. What a rockin’ band! It was something different for us having only the 3 shows instead of the usual 10 or 12. It meant we could put on the best possible show for all our gigs instead of dying in the ass halfway through, losing our voices and our brains! Also having a cover charge was a bit of a risk with all the free shows that are on offer in Tamworth, but we’re happy to say we had great crowds at all our gigs! Thanks to everyone that came along and coughed up the 10 bucks, we hope we gave you value for money.

The Territory night was a huge success for the 3rd year in a row. A sellout crowd was entertained by Warren Williams and Gus Williams and family, Matt scullion, Martin Oakes, Tony Sergeant, Kate Oliver and many other talented territorians. Karen O’shea came down in between her Bella commitments and showed us all why she won a golden guitar with that beautiful voice. Congratulations Karen. Then the charismatic Tom Curtain finished the night, albeit a little shorter than we expected due to the Tonight Shows lack of patience and courtesy (we apologize to all of you who expected to see us perform again after Tom). Nevertheless it was a great night and always gives us something to be proud of.

The City Bowlo was a new gig for us but proved to be something pretty special. A small intimate atmosphere and a great sound system made it a great venue to get up and personal with the crowd, though the smell emanating from the front row made me wish I was playing at the SCG! AND I blamed it on our bass player and drummer! Sorry guys, no wonder it got stronger the further I moved away from you. I thought I could let rip, but whoever you are, I hand over the trophy!! Also drink prices were very reasonable…you could actually get fairly pissed for under 20 bucks, something unheard of in Tamworth these days. Thanks Terry for having us, we’ll be back.

The Longyard was another great gig. We were very fortunate to have bumped into an old mate of mine from New Orleans, Mike West, who was in Tamworth with his partner Katie Euliss. We invited them up to do a guest spot at our shows so that they could get a bit more exposure and get their fantastic songs out there. As they were setting up the crowd looked a little uneasy and when we introduced them the applause was a little restrained. I’m sure they were all thinking ‘whose this long haired hippy guy with the scruffy clothes and the hillbilly gal with tattoos all over playing a washtub, have these girls had too much sun?!!’. Halfway through their first song, the crowd went wild! These guys could play the banjo and gutbucket bass like the devil himself! They definitely won a whole legion of new fans that day. For those of you who missed them check them out at www.truckstophoneymoon.com and buy a cd, it’ll be the best one you buy this year (aside from Thirteen Thongs that is).

We had a bit of fun at the Family Hotel on the last Sat with a few songs and thongs. Sorry to the woman I hit in the head with an airborne double plugger! Must practice that over arm chuck a bit more! Thanks to Karen Lynn and some of Acoustic Shock that got up in our break and played some beautiful bluegrass songs. We love having our awesomely talented friends as part of our show. We finished the night off with an all star cast up on stage including Steve McCloud on dobro, Nigel Lever on mandolin and a bloke that jumped up out of the audience that started slappin the pair of thongs he won in the beergut comp like a professional percussionist. He even counted us in!!

Thanks to everyone for coming and making our shows such a success and for buying our cd and having as much fun as we do. Keep it up!

Since Tamworth we’ve been to Sydney for a show at the Empire with the Remains and Truckstop Honeymoon which was HUGE! Them Re-Mains sure know how to play that country rock and roll. Then up to the Clarendon in Katoomba and the Heritage in Bulli with Richard Steel. Thanks Richard for some beautiful steel guitar playing.

Last weekend was Whittlesea Country Music Festival and the Victorian Country Music Awards. The first time we’ve performed at any awards, and we didn’t get pissed and fall off the stage…well almost. We had a ball! Congrats to all the winners and the runneruppers as you need them for there to be a winner. The festival was fantastic fun; thanks to all the organizers…you did a bloody good job of looking after us. Saturday was a bit cold for us Northerners, but we know to pack our thermals for any excursion into the Deep South. The red wine kept us very toasty as well. Thanks Phil. Thanks to Andrew Embling for being such a great emcee, and we thought we could spout endless bullshit…you take the cake mate. We love you! Also to Merle and Graham Gillis for getting us down there and all the behind the scenes crew, Sean, Dave and Sheena. You guys ROCK! We hope to see you again for another party.

Phew, having a bit of a break now. I'm down here in Eurongilly renovating an old jailhouse and stirring up the rat carcasses under the floorboards and the ghosts (I kid you not; they’ve been fairly active in the door slamming at night!). Gleny’s back up in Brunswick Heads getting ready to start uni to get her Dip Ed so she can teach music out in the remote communities of the Top End. Got a few more gigs and festivals before we take a break in May till the end of the year, so if you want to catch us before Tamworth next year, now’s your chance. Yeeharr! Just one more weekend of gigs and the silly season will be upon us. Then Tamworth Country Music Festival will only be around the corner and we’ll have our brand spankin’ new cd Thirteen Thongs with us. Produced by Richard Pleasance ( Paul Kelly, Jimmie Little, Archie Roach, Debra Conway) and featuring the sugary pedal-steel of Ray Cullen and mandolin by Lindsay Martin, it contains thirteen new tracks with something for everyone…bluegrass, swing, polka, blues, ballads and bawdy tales of lust, liquor and life on the road. We’ll be launching Thirteen Thongs at Tamworth at only four shows, including the famous Territory Night, so you’ll want to be early as past shows have been chockers!
This year we’ll be showcasing another of our friends, fantastic singer/songwriter Tonchi Macintosh. For those of you who have never heard his songs, you’re in for a real treat. We met Tonchi at Nymagee Folk Festival in October where along with Neil Murray, Glen Scuthorpe, Country Generations(Canada),Todd Williams, The Re-Mains and a cast of fellow party animals, we had an absolute hoot of a time! Neil entertained us on the first night with his knee knockin’ accordion playing and fiddle sawing at the after gig piss-up. We hope someone got footage of that classic moment. Talk about laugh... we nearly wet ourselves!
Sat night was an awesome dance fest with the Re-Mains finishing off a great day with some good ole country rock and roll. At one point in the gig Sean aka Uncle Uncle Burnin Love aka the Inanimate Object Dry Rooter (banjo) went walkabout somewhere so Wardy (drums) took up the banjo and started dancing with it. Then sometime later Sean came flying back up on stage and got on the drums. Very versatile mob them Re-mains…wonder what Sean was up to? Got back to our digs for a couple of quiet beverages and found the whole festival in full on party mode spilling out of every doorway! We had one of the clowns (the face painted variety) in our face screaming at us she needed red wine, gotta have red wine, have you got some red wine. Then when we’d dug around for the hidden stash and found the cask, by the time we got back to her she’d passed out. Obviously didn’t really need any more red wine! There was a session going on in every room and people were passing out on every available bed, table, floor, until it ended up being a sea of bodies. At some point a few of us decided to go for a walk up the old slag heap, which at the time seemed like a great idea until the reality of barbed wire fences that bite and sharp rocks that chew holes in your expensive cowboy boots, and flimsy short dresses in 5 degree temperatures made the exercise a little bit stupid. Oh well, the sunrise was pretty specky from there. Only problem, we had a gig in a few hours time! We made it, only just. Luckily the audience, all 5 of them, were probably as hung over as we were. We were heading to the bar after the gig (nothing like a cold beer at 11am to take you right back to where you were the night before…drunk again!) when Sambo flew past on an extremely little mini bike(peewee 50). Apparently he just stole it off some little kid (he said borrowed). Anyway it was the funniest sight, knees sticking out the sides fully decked out in cowboy hat and jeans tucked into cowboy boots, ripping around the festival site! Go Sambo!!
Sunday night ended with us, Tonchi and the Re-Mains doing a mega all on stage together finale for the last few songs. What a great weekend. Thanks Jay for all the hard work and putting together a ripper of a festival.
Since Nymagee we’ve been to Adelaide, Canberra, Nowra, Melbourne, Maldon, Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Tanami Desert, Alice Springs and Majors Creek…PHEW! I thought we were having a quieter year this year. Anyway all those gigs have amazing stories but will have to be put into another mailout or a book or else come up and have a beer with us the next time we’re in your neighbourhood and we’ll tell you a few. We’d like to thank everyone that has helped us out, whether by buying our cd or a few beers for the band, bringing all your friends and family to our gigs or by requesting our songs on your favourite radio program. Every little bit helps as we’re still doing everything ourselves.
Look out for the new website, hopefully up in a couple of weeks - just waiting on the new cd artwork. Also the first single “Winds of Change” off the new album will be out on the December issue of NfS (a compilation cd that goes out to all the Country Music Radio programmers) so call up your local radio station and request it and we’ll be on top of the charts in no time!? AT LAST!! The Cowgirls are going into the studio to start work on their NEW
CD.about bloody time some would say! Though in our defence I will say we've
been pretty busy gallivanting around the countryside as usual. The last
couple of months have seen us at the National Folk Festival, The Man from
Snowy River Bush Festival and a tour starting from Melbourne back up to
Darwin via the Flinders Ranges. For those of you who are only interested in
where we're performing next, scroll down to the bottom of the page, as so
much has happened, it's hard to condense it into a few sentences. Read on
if you want to know all the juicy bits.

Where do I start to tell you? As usual I'm having a bit of trouble with my
memory.
The National Folk Fest was fantastic. We caught up with heaps of muso
friends and people from all over the place. Gleny made the session bar her
camping spot after the first night, though I don't think a lot of sleeping
was had. However I did notice a few people taking advantage of the warm
room to catch a few zzz's under a table. on top of the table.sitting up with
drinks still in their hand. halfway through a tune, chin on accordian! Had
one show we couldn't make but Busty Springfield and Bunny Riot stepped in
and did us proud with a guest appearance by Guy Sebastian on double bass.

Our bass player Sam Martin was once again the center of attention, even
though we pick on him onstage at every possible chance. He had more girls
than you could poke a stick at, throwing themselves at him. It must be the
sympathy factor?! It couldn't have anything to do with his good looks and
boyish charm, could it girls? Anyway, looks like we'll have to put the
blokes in our next lot of promo photos, so our website doesn't keep getting
choked up with emails asking us why Sam's not in the ones we have now.
About time, as they're both now permanent members of the Cowgirls. For
those of you who got confused with our last mailout referring to Grunter,
it's not the barefoot one from the Blues Cowboys but our drummer Grant
'HotRod' Bedford from Murwillumbah.

On the road again (I wish I'd written that song!)
From Melbourne, Murwillumbah, Eurongilly and Canberra the Cowgirls gathered
up their gear and hit the highway in Bessie the Bovan and took to the skies
in Mabel the Marvelous Flying Machine, heading for Parachilna and the
Beltana Outback Ball.
Deb Thorsen from Cinnabar Productions in Adelaide, came up to Parachilna
with her sidekicks Will and Andy to start filming a documentary on us which
hopefully will end up making us all rich and famous?! .a girl can dream
can't she. Anyway, it was pretty weird having a camera in your face almost
every minute of the day. Thank god they didn't follow us into the toilet is
all I can say, especially after a weekend of eating Feral Food at the
Prairie Hotel. Fantastic meals.emu pate, buffalo sausages, roo burgers and
goat curry, but the consequences were highly offensive. We felt sorry for
the cleaners of the blokes' dunnies! Did some up close and personal
interview footage in Brachina Gorge and an acoustic version of Jackson,
which was pretty difficult with a million flies wanting to get down your
throat and up your nose. Some more great footage was taken of Gleny making
the boys ties for the Beltana Ball out of XXXX Gold cartons. Absolute works
of art, best looking ties at the whole Ball. Then there was the ordeal of
Gleny trying to put false eyelashes on for the first time while Sam played
Stephan the hairdresser with her hair, both ending up complete disasters!
Finally all frocked up, we were off to the Ball for a night of interviewing
the locals. It was a drunken mess of taffeta and tiaras by the time we got
there. Amazing how quickly a girl can go from princess to porn queen with a
few rums down her throat. Got some great stuff of Sam trying to pick up and
the yawning of the girls after 20 minutes of him dribbling in their ear.
Nice work Sambo! Grunter managed to get himself hooked up. on the barbed
wire fence as he was running for the bus home! Though he did milk the cut
on his hand for all it was worth over the whole weekend! Sunday morning is
Anzac Day, and the next gig at 11am is at Leigh Creek Tavern, 60kms down the
road. Gleny staggers out at 9am to search for Bessie the Bovan, when she
realizes it's still 30kms down the road at Beltana, and begins to panic!
Sambo was hustled out of bed and there was a mad dash to get the van, get
back, load up the gear and drive to the gig. Not a happy Cowgirl. All I
can say is, thankyou to whoever invented Bloody Marys. And thanks to the
fellas playing pool who entertained us all morning with their sagging
tracky-daks and trucker butts! Back to Parachilna for the recovery party
gig, followed by an epic jam session around the fire with locals, visitors,
staff and half a dozen guitars. Thanks Jane, Ross and all the staff for a
fantastic weekend. See you in September for The Beltana Picnic Races!

Piling into Bessie, Gleny, Sam and Grant hit the road (and half the kangaroo
population) on the way to the next gig at Curtin Springs. Luckily, she only
sustained minor injuries to her left eyeball(Bessie that is,not Gleny).
Andrew, Deb and I flew in Mabel and arrived at Curtin Springs minutes after
Bessie.leaving a day later! Hosts Ashley and Peter Severin put on a great
BBQ, and the staff added to our show with belly slides on the tables. just
the usual dance floor antics!
Back on the road for the ground crew and off to Tennant Creek, where they
caught up with our mate Jimbo doing his standup at the Tennant Creek hotel.
His talent quest really showed the true colours of the Tennant locals, and
the outright winner was the publican from across the road who demonstrated a
new method of consuming tequila. He snorted the line of salt, sculled the
tequila then squeezed the lemon in his eye (apparently this is called a
Stuntman). Then his son proceeded to drink a nip of vodka..through his
nose! They breed em tough out there!(or stupid?)
Then it was off to Katherine for the Country Music Muster and a get together
with the rest of us, who flew up the day before. With the likes of
Sensitive New Age Cowpersons, Sara Storer, Wayne Law, Billy Bridge and
Gatorbait to name but a few of the artists, it was the best muster yet!
Thanks to the committee for putting on such a great show. Way too much
happened to tell you here, as I've gone on long enough, but you can get the
stories out of us at the next gig.
As for our next gigs, during June we'll be in Hepburn Springs in Victoria,
doing our recording with Richard Pleasance at his studio out in the country
(and freezing our little butts off!) and will only be doing a couple of
shows around that area(see below). Then the next gigs won't be till
September when we go back to the Prairie for the Beltana Picnic Races- a
must do on your racing/social calendar. Then hopefully a few festivals that
we'll let you know about closer to the date. Thanks to everyone who helped
us out on this last tour (which will be our last in a very long while), for
coming along to our gigs, buying us beer,(and our stubby coolers and cd)
telling your mates about us and having as fun a time as what we do. See you
all around at the next gigs or out and about somewhere. Keep on sucking

Hey ya'all, after a month of dusty Riverina paddocks chasing sheep around,
I'm back up in Katherine for a few weeks of getting seriously rained on. The
first time I've seen the Katherine River in it's full glory. Gleny is
flitting between Melbourne and Sydney fiddling with the likes of Gatorbait,
Rob Lucky and will be heading up to North NSW with Matt Sculllion for a
short tour before the Cowgirls kick off another month of gigs.
Tamworth seems so long ago now but i must thank all of you who turned up to
our gigs despite the media sensationalism regarding the floods. we managed
to paddle out onto our street and take some photos of Bessie the bovan up to
her belly in water. Gleny thought she'd chuck her thong into a whirlpool on
the side of the road to watch it go round and round. great fun till she went
to retrieve it and it got sucked down into the culvert never to be seen
again! maybe someone ended up with it on their doorstep in the camping
grounds?!
As usual we drank too much and didn't get enough sleep but with so many
people to catch up with and so much partying to be done, sleep could wait.
Had a great time with the Barra blokes and managed to get them dressed up in
frocks for one of our gigs. We told them it was a special drag night and
that our blokes were going to frock up too. Only thing was, the Barras
turned up in frocks and our blokes hadn't dressed up yet... in fact no other
bloke there had frocks on! They thought we'd conned them into it to
embarrass them in front of a huge crowd. But then after the break our
blokes Sam, Grant, Ray and special guest Lindsay Martin, all came down the
back stairs in full regalia including some lovely wigs which made Brian and
Philly feel a bit underdressed! Then Kenny Jo Blake and mates decided to
join in...boys just love a chance to put a skirt on. We're thinking of
putting on a special Frock Night next year and maybe getting the blokes to
sing a few girly songs too? Let us know what you think, would you don a
frock for a night with the cowgirls? Anyway, lots of fun to be had by all.
Other highlights included Gleny getting the audience to guess the image on
the back of her knickers, with a big flash to the crowd to confirm the right
answer. Nearly gave a couple of old blokes in the front row a heart attack!
She was doing anything to promo her new naked bass player calendar, giving
one away to the correct guesser. Anyone that wants to get hold of a copy,
which has our young bass player Sam as Mr July, drop us an email. Strictly
limited edition and i think she only has a few left.
Speaking of merchandise, we also had some stubby coolers with the cow print
cd cover on them but sold them out so fast we had people asking us if they
could get them after the festival. YES YOU CAN. We've had another batch
done so drop us a line if you would like to purchase one for a mere 10
bucks. Well that's about all I can remember at the moment, must stop this
excessive drinking one day so I can remember all the things i do, second
thoughts it's probably better that i don't remember some of the things i
do!!!?
Got a few festivals in April before we head back up to Katherine again for
the Muster (see the dates listed below). We'll be having a doco crew join
us in Parachilna to travel up with us, so those of you who don't want your
mug on telly better stay home. No seriously, we would love to see all of
you at a gig if we're in your neighbourhood. And for those of you who would
love to see a doco of the cowgirls on TV, write or call up your local
station and tell them. Or else let us know if you have friends that would
be interested in it.
We'll be heading back overseas in August to try our luck in Edinburgh again
(and to get into some serious drinking with all our mates!) those of you
over there that get this mailout, let us know if your going to be around so
we can come and hunt you down.
Well that's about it, hope you all survived Tamworth and are still partying
like today's your last (as you should be). Thanks again for all your support
and all the little things like bringing friends to a gig or requesting a
song on your local radio station. It alll helps us get back to your
neighbourhood to say gidday and play a few tunes. Keep on sucking( beer,

hey ya'all. Merry Christmas and all that stuff. hope you all have a good
one but save a little bit of energy for the Tamworth Country Music Festival,
cause this next ones gonna be a big one. we've got 11 gigs in 10 days plus
the odd guest spot with our friends in other bands AND trying to fit in all
the partying as well! if your trying to decide which gigs to come to (if
not all), don't miss our showcase night of territory talent on sat 17th at
the family hotel. for those of you that came to our last one you'll know to
get there early and save yourself a front row seat as it was chockers, with
people sitting all the way up the staircase and hanging out the door. this
year we'll be introducing some new up and coming talent as well as some old
territory faves. also while we're on the tamworth subject, we've been
nominated in the Tiara Awards for best instrumental... these things never
cease to amaze us! we won't have a new cd out in time for tamworth this
year but will be bringing along some T/shirts and stubby coolers. there's
limited stock so first in best dressed(and coolest beer holder)!
the last few months has seen us taking a bit of a break as we've both
decided that non-stop touring is detrimental to the health ( and the love
life!) so we hit the road for one month in November to do a couple of
festivals and pubs. it was our first time at Maldon Folk fest and we had a
ball, despite the freezing cold. thanks to all the punters that turned up to
our kangaroo hotel beer garden gig, it was so cold i couldn't feel my
fingers so who knows what chords were coming out. they got a bit tangled up
in the strings a few times so big thanks to Jody Martin for being there with
the bandaids when the blood started flowing. we met lots of new friends and
saw heaps of amazing musos. thanks to mike and lynda and all the organisers
for a great festival and congratulations on turning 30.
the gig at the Cornish Arms with Git and King Curly was great fun and we had
a mad friend from the territory (love you Deb) stuffing the beers into us
and doing a grand job of playing the ice scoops. better sound than the
spoons, more reminiscent of cowbells!
the Lomond was as packed as usual and we had our new found friend Emma B
doing a spot of Appalachian Stomp dancing with us. she did such a fantastic
job she inspired a couple in the audience, Andrew and Marilyn to show off a
few classy moves. we love great dancers, so don't be shy!
then it was off to Majors creek for Music at the Creek festival. thanks to
Bill Arnett for being our MC for the whole festival, you never cease to
impress us with your fabulous dress sense, though Gleny was a bit shocked
when she copped a full frontal as the wind caught your sarong outside the
marquee! i was a bit miffed at your guiness stain being a lot bigger than
mine, i'll be trying harder next year. thanks Sue for having us back we had
a ball as usual.
then we had a huge night in canberra with the fuellers at Toast where
everyone got into the spirit of hootin and a hollerin and dancing up a
storm. hope we get to do that one again soon.
the Merry Muse was a bit of a quiet one due to the rugby. boy that was poor
planning on our behalf. even sorrier when aus lost. oh well you can't win
em all.
Sydney had us up in Penrith for the first time at Crawdaddys Quarters which
was a nice surprise to perform to a seated audience, even if the front row
ended up asleep across a couple of chairs ( 2 of glenys' sisters kids
couldn't quite make it through the gig) thanks Bryen for all your hard work
on getting a great venue up and running out west.
our last gig was at our fave Sydney haunt the Botany View. we had a couple
of friends help us out, including Jimbo who did a bit of stand up in between
sets. some found it a little on the confronting side but i noticed most
people having a chuckle even if they were saying it was a bit rude. it was
great to have Glenys friend Brad back, with his clarinet this time, to jazz
it up for a few tunes in the last set. the audience went wild! country
jazz, now there's a concept. thanks to Tania who was filming the night for a
pitch to help get a doco of us touring from the Flinders in SA to Broome in
WA. if anyone knows someone with lots of money that wants to help make a
great film, just let us know. we'd even put them into a scene or two.

that's about all I can think of but you can come up and have a yarn at a gig
and we'll tell you all the gory details of what we've been up to. thanks
again for all your help in getting our name out there. keep on requesting
our music on radio and bringing your friends down to a gig. every little

Howdy ya'all, it's been quite some time since we've written anything about
what we've been up to. That's because we've been taking a bit of a break.
Our last gig was at the end of May up here in Darwin, so we've both had
plenty of time to get our teeth into other projects. Gleny's been fiddling
with The Duanes, The Phenomenal Reverse Brothers and Gatorbait and having a
hoot playing all over the country. I've (Tracey) been off overseas with
Lindsay Martin, a fantastic fiddle and mandolin player who's worked with the
likes of Barramundi Brothers, Enda Kenny, Furry Animals and Fiddlers
Festival to name but a few. The UK tour was a promo for the Toe Sucking
Cowgirls, and Lindsay stepped in to fill Glenys shoes at the last minute due
to Gleny being exhausted from our last tour in Oz. And he filled her shoes
extremely well. After the audiences initial shock of the fiddle player with
the long curly blonde hair being a bloke (I heard people making comment
about the poster and how different Gleny looked!) and after his corny jokes
and tales of Australia (did you hear the price of sheep has gone up in New
Zealand.it's up to $5 an hour) they were enthralled (or was that
dumbfounded?) I had a hard time getting him on to the next song! Seriously
though he had them all in stitches and there were always a few down the
front sitting with their mouths open when he launched into a fiddle or
mandolin solo. The gigs were all small pubs and theatres, which gave us
heaps of opportunities to get up close and personal, though I'm not sure
that was appreciated by all. Especially if we'd had a big feed of garlic
the night before or hadn't had time for a shower. I mentioned going off to
have a Pommy bath (an ozzie expression for a wash over the sink) to one of
the publicans, and he didn't know what I was talking about until I filled
him in. I don't think he saw the funny side. Anyway, met heaps of amazing
people and played some great venues, some of our favourites were:
- Stainsby Festival. This is where Lindsay was in 7th heaven, they had his
favourite beer, Timothy Taylors Landlord in barrels behind the bar.
Unfortunately he had to drive so he couldn't indulge as much as he wanted
to. Probably the only time he couldn't! We were the opening act on a huge
stage and had a great time kick starting the festival.
- "The Pilot" in Maidstone. Lawrence the publican joined us, and all our
new muso friends, for a huge jam on stage after our gig that went on till
the wee hours. The pub being so small, there was hardly any room for the
audience!
-"Dean Arts Centre" in Gloucester. A great spot out in the middle of a
forest where we played to a group of 30 or so in a small old stone village
hall, very intimate.
-"The Meadow House" in Berwick on Tweed. These guys really know how to look
after you. The first time I've drunk Guinness out of a 2 litre stein!

A BIG thanks also to Ken and Margret Waud and all the clan, who took us in
and looked after us like we were family, taking us sightseeing, fishing? and
pointing us to the best local English ales. To Dave Blosse, awesome blues
guitarist/songwriter who took over from Lindsay for the last 3 gigs, and
Trader Bay for hanging out and playing great bluegrass music over copious
beers/wine/vodka..!
Now I'm back in Katherine trying to get rid of the beer gut and getting
ready to head south to get back together with Gleny for a month worth of
gigs during Nov. We've both got a load of new songs that we'll be working
on for the next cd, which we'll be doing sometime early next year. Finances
got a bit drained with the tour to the UK so we haven't been able to get
into the studio to release something this year. We're hoping to be able to
release it at the National Folk Festival, fingers crossed, and the Katherine
country Music Muster.
Well that's about all I can remember to waffle on about, though there are a
load more stories to tell of the trip overseas, which your bound to hear at
a gig sometime. Tamworth is gearing up to be another BIG festival for us,
and we're looking forward to another huge party with some of you. Hope your
all still having a yehaar of a time chasing your dreams and partying hard.
