Winners are grinners! Especially Troy
The winners in the 13th CMAA Australian Country
Music Achiever Awards were announced last night in a star studded event at WatersEdge in Sydney.
Country music’s most respected performers and industry movers and shakers
were there to tip their hats to the Achiever Awards’ Class of ’07 which
included those musicians, performers and organisations who have flown the
country music flag over the previous 12 months.
The gala ceremony was held under the Sydney
Harbour Bridge with performances by this year’s Entertainer of the Year
winner (taking his total Achiever Award wins is five) and crowd favourite
Troy Cassar-Daley. Troy’s non stop touring as well as
his appearances on the last two seasons of “It Takes Two” have cemented him
in the hearts and minds of fans and the industry alike.
Taking her 3rd Independent Entertainer of the
Year Award in a row was the beautiful Felicity Urquhart, fresh from her
performance before US President George W Bush and Prime Minister Howard
during APEC week in Sydney. Felicity performed tonight with her partner and
collaborator Glen Hannah, who also took home his 3rd Achiever Award in 2007
in the Cover Art of the Year category (for Ring Around the Moon by James
Blundell).
In the industry awards categories, ABC Music Publishing solidified their
standing as Publishing Company of the Year winning the Award for the 6th
consecutive year and Shock Records took out their 2nd Record Company of the
Year – Independent Award.
Also winning consecutive Awards were The Pub, Tamworth (Entertainment Venue
of the Year) and John Nutting (Media Achiever of the Year – Individual).
Sydney based label Compass Bros Records also returned to the podium for the
4th time as Record Company of the Year – Major Distribution.
In its 2nd year in the Achiever Awards
calendar, the CMAA Board was proud to present the Musician of the Year Award
to James Gillard whose long musical career has seen him move from the rock
‘n roll stage (Mondo Rock), to work with some of country music’s most
respected bands (The Fargone Beauties, The Flood, The Stormwater Boys).
Each year, the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA)
acknowledges the Australian country music recording artist who has received
that highest radio airplay during the previous year. The recipient of the
PPCA Most Broadcast Australian Country Music Artist Award for 2006 was Keith
Urban.

series It Takes Two, partnered with Big Brother housemate Krystal Forscutt.
In this week's opening episode, Troy and Krystal proved that they
have staying power by their smooth rendition of the Van Morrison
classic, Moondance.
Krystal's nominated charity is Fr. Chris Reilly's Youth Off The
Streets so to help this very worthy cause and keep Troy and Krystal

Troy to feature in "It Takes Two" 2007
Country star Troy Cassar-Daley has been lined up to feature again in the
7 and Prime Network series "It Takes Two".
The show, a singing talent quest featuring duos comprising established artists
and personalities who are not (until the show!) singers, kicks off on Tuesday,
May 8 at 7.30pm
Grant Denyer returns as host of the show which sees the couples competing in a
duet-singing showdown backed by a live show band. The couples are judged by a
combination of viewer votes and a panel of industry experts to see who will be
crowned series champions.
Confirmed celebrities who will step out of their comfort zone this year include
Jolene Anderson ("All Saints" actress), Lochie Daddo (television presenter),
Ernie Dingo ("The Great Outdoors"), comedian Russell Gilbert, Former Olympic
swimmer Daniel Kowalski and Jo Stanley (breakfast radio host and television
personality).
In addition to Troy, professional singers who will mentor the celebrities
include Rachael Beck, Anthony Callea, David Campbell, Kate Ceberano, Dave
Gleeson and Wendy Matthews.

Hats Off sellout!
- Three weeks out from the event, Troy
Cassar-Daley’s Up Close and Personal concert at The Pub is a
handful of tickets away from a sellout.
Anyone coming to Tamworth for the Hats Off to Country Festival
planning on picking up a ticket for the show will be sorely
disappointed, so they’d better make alternate plans for the Friday
night.
Since tickets went on sale at Tourism Tamworth, they’ve been
scooped up by earlybirds, not wanting to miss the chance to see
the multiple Golden Guitar winner in the intimate setting of The

The everyday Australian’s ultimate country music dream will
be unveiled at Tamworth’s Gallery of Stars
Wax Museum during the 2006 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
It’s the story of an 11-year-old kid from Grafton, who started out
busking on the streets of Tamworth, only to make his way
to the top echelons of the highly competitive Australian country
music industry.
Possessing big dreams and an even bigger talent, Troy Cassar-Daley
is now poised to join the pioneers and legends of
Australian country music history, immortalised in wax, for all the
world to see.
Troy will come face to face with his wax likeness for the very
first time at 2pm on Tuesday, January 24 at the Big Golden
Guitar Tourist Centre.
The public is warmly invited to attend Troy’s wax figure
unveiling, as he becomes the 26th star to be honoured in this
way in Tamworth.
This is set to be one of the biggest ever festivals for Troy,
whose sixth career album, Brighter Day, released on
Nash Chambers’ Essence label, has elicited seven finalist spots in
the 2006 CMAA
Country Music Awards of Australia. Some things you really should

concert at Kilkiven Qld. (near Kingaroy) At Kilkiven (a tiny
town) they have an annual horse ride that is organised and started
by Fabian Webb (who is one of the Webb brothers that started the
Gympie Muster). This year 1015 horses and riders were
attracted to the ride, from all over Australia. A
magnificent site to see when they paraded the main street.
This day culminated with a country concert at which Troy Cassar-Daley
was the main star. Troy was excellent, very classy. He
had two boys from Grafton in his band who played bass and drums.
Other artists were also very good including "Cold Turkey Band" (ex
Blue Heelers) and the high school bands from Gympie Country
Music School of Excellence.

star and Aria award winner Troy Cassar-Daley takes a break from
his recording schedule to go on the road with mentor and country
legend Brian Young, in a 1-hour documentary special screening on
Thursday, April 14 at 8.30pm.
At 70, Brian Young is now one of the last travelling country
showmen in Australia. For the last 30 years he has been touring
the regional areas of central and northern Australia performing
in pubs, country towns and remote Aboriginal settlements.
Over the years numerous musicians have passed through Brian's
touring band including Lindsay Butler, Beccy Cole, Tamara Stewart
and Cassar-Daley. For many of these artists who are now pursuing
successful solo careers, their time with Young was a rite of
passage and an extraordinary musical apprenticeship.
This documentary features performance and behind the scenes
footage of Cassar-Daley and Young on tour performing in the remote
central desert communities of Hermansberg, Papunya and Mutitjulu
and finally Alice Springs.
Re-living their time together on the road when Cassar-Daley was
only 20 years of age they reflect on their music and the joys and
difficulties of a touring life.
"The allure of the road can be extremely addictive... but it is
very hard to maintain things in your family relationships... that
is the biggest battle and it is the only real hole that music does
leave." says Cassar-Daley.

Multi golden guitar winner Troy Cassar Daley has been confirmed as
the star host on next year's Country Music Express train to
Tamworth.
The popular entertainer will be joined by fellow Country Music
stars including Felicity Urquhart, Ronni Rae Rivers, Grant Luhrs,
JR Williams, Jeanette Wormald, Ian Muir, June Harrison and John
Mathewson.
The artists will entertain passengers on board the sixth train to
attend the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival from January
22nd to 31st, 2006.
And as an added incentive, people who book in March will receive a
preferential seating ticket to the festival's premier event, the
Toyota Golden Guitar Awards, absolutely free.
The Country Music Express is the only train journey of its type in
Australia.
Passengers enjoy ten days of world class Country Music on board
the historic Southern Aurora and it becomes their motel while
stabled in Tamworth, with 24 hour air-conditioning.
Director of Cross Country Express which runs the annual train from
Melbourne to Tamworth, Mr Arthur Smith, said the train offered a
unique experience to passengers.
"Each year it has grown in popularity and profile," he said.
"We are getting an increasing number of overseas enquiries."

Music Festival, our train offers an affordable alternative to see
one of Australia's iconic festivals."
The Country Music Express offers passengers a la carte dining en

Mr Smith said bookings for the Country Music Express train to
Tamworth were already up on previous years and if enquiries
continued at the same rate, he expected a full train of more than
120 passengers for the 2006 festival.

On the very night that celebrated singer / songwriter Troy
Cassar-Daley was performing one of two sold-out shows at the 1,100
capacity Twin Towns Services Club on the NSW / QLD border, he was

MUSIC AWARD
TROY CASSAR-DALEY has taken out Music Artist of the Year at
the 2004 Deadly Sounds Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Music, Sport, Entertainment and Community Awards (the "Deadlys").
Announced in Sydney last Wednesday, the Awards will be telecast on
SBS tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 26). This year marks the
Deadlys' 10th year.
One of the most popular announcements during the night came when
the Band of the Year Deadly was awarded to country music stars The
Donovans.
Current Australian Idol finalist Casey Donovan is a member of the
family band when she isn't performing solo. Casey also took out
the Deadly for Most Promising New Talent in Music award.
The Jimmy Little Award for Lifetime Achievement in Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Music was presented to Mandawuy Yunupingu.

recording his new album, and it was released on Essence Records/EMI on
April 19th. Entitled 'Borrowed & Blue, it's a collection of Troy's
favourite songs - songs that have influenced him, been favourites
of his live shows and songs that simply hold a very special place
in his heart.
To add to the fun of recording tracks by some of the musical
masters, such as Merle Haggard, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Slim Dusty
(to name a few) He's called in the musical expertise of some of
his all time local musical hero's - with Shane Howard, Don Walker,
Paul Kelly, Ian Moss, Anne Kirkpatrick and the Dead Ringer Band
all contributing their talents.
Borrowed And Blue
As Troy Cassar-Daley himself testifies, there’s a time in an
artist’s life when it’s perfectly appropriate to revisit some
classics, to release an album of other people’s songs.
“I think every artist wants to do an album like this one,” Troy
says, “but you have to feel comfortable in your musical skin
before you do. I have never been happier with my music, so it felt
like a very natural thing to do.”
That “natural thing” is Troy’s 5th studio album, Borrowed And
Blue. Fourteen tracks running from the traditional to the
contemporary, all are realised with nothing less than full-blown
respect by this beloved Australian country performer, who brings
the unmissable joy of the music fan to his renditions.
Produced by Nash Chambers and recorded by Jeff McCormack, Borrowed
And Blue sees Troy enter the studio with a host of Australian
legends, from rockers Ian Moss and Don Walker … to country cohorts
Anne Kirkpatrick and Kasey Chambers … to that great Aussie
storyteller who’s always jumping across genres, Paul Kelly.
Opening track “Factory Man” introduces us to the music of Goanna
and a guest appearance by Shane Howard. The song sets the feel for
a record that, while traversing continents in its choice of songs,
is quietly and proudly Australian in tone. “Shane Howard for me,
as a young Aboriginal kid growing up, was like a mentor – and I
hadn’t even met him. He spoke of equality with song and he helped
shape my way of thinking into something very positive.”
Onward from Shane Howard’s tale, Borrowed And Blue moves through
tracks by such enduring country artists as Steve Earle and Willie
Nelson – two who seem always to find a new audience with the
emergence of each fresh musical generation.
Then there’s Tom Petty’s “Yer So Bad” – “It makes me feel like I’m
18 again,” laughs Troy – and old schoolers like Merle Haggard and
George Jones, the latter mutually admired by both Troy and his
backing vocalist here, Paul Kelly. Troy has of course collaborated
with Paul before (on the Golden Guitar-winning track “I Wish I Was
A Train”) and those few hours spent with Kelly recreating “Why
Baby Why” was, as Troy tells in his liner notes, characterised by
a “great vocal and Sunday arvo feed”.
“Paul Kelly has a habit of taking me to places with his songs that
I never thought I could go,” says fan and friend Troy, echoing the
thoughts of all of Kelly’s admirers. “He has a sympathetic heart
and a sense of a well-lived-in soul, and that makes him bloody
great in my books!” Not to mention a great partner to share a pair
of Jones’ well-worn boots.
But Merle Haggard needn’t be jealous. For his track “Big City”
Troy brought in his old friends from the Dead Ringer Band for
vocal duties. But they’re not just included because they’re all
mates or because band member Nash is his producer; Troy’s
admiration for the family generally and for the hugely successful
daughter of the clan, Kasey Chambers, is unquestionable. “I love
to watch flowers bloom,” Troy says of Kasey, filled with pride.
“She did not compromise, and that’s great.”
Troy Cassar Daley has chosen each of the tracks of Borrowed And
Blue for the way they signpost his entire life. Like a series of
his most significant diary entries, they run the range from his
first country concerts at the age of only five or six to his time
in young bands when he was a teen, from the years spent travelling
Australia in his twenties playing cover versions in smoky bars to
now - Troy as a successful, stand-alone artist.
One of the highlights of the album is Troy’s homage to his late
friend Slim Dusty, “Losin’ My Blues Tonight”. Cassar-Daley has
made no secret of his admiration for Australia’s greatest ever
country performer and writes in the liner notes of Borrowed And
Blue of the high esteem with which he regards the life and work of
Slim and his wife Joy.
And in another connection to Australia’s favourite troubadour
family, Slim and Joy’s daughter Anne Kirkpatrick also appears on
the album. “Anne has been someone who gave me a lot of
encouragement early in my career. She came all the way to Wyong
and sang on three of the tracks on my first record

own territories and not those artists who are achieving most of their

Troy Cassar-Daley (Australia) has been making his mark
on the Country Music scene in Australia and the U.S. since he was a
teenager. In 1995, he won the Australian Recording Industry Award (ARIA) for
Best Country Record and the 1996 Tamworth Golden Guitar Award for Best Male
Vocal. He has toured Australia with Merle Haggard and LeAnn Rimes. In 1998,
he added thee more Golden Guitar Awards (Best Male Vocal, Album of the Year
and Best Video), two MO Awards and a second Country Music Association of
Australia Entertainer of the Year Award. In 2000, he won Best Male Vocal and
Song of the Year at the CMAA Awards for "They Don't Make 'Em Like That
Anymore."
Kasey Chambers (Australia) was signed to EMI Australia
in 1998 and her first solo album, The Captain, which was released in the
U.S., UK and Europe, has sold more than 300,000 copies in Australia earning
her two ARIA Award for Country Album of the Year and Female Artist of the
Year in 2000. She had two sold-out national tours following her second
album, Barricades.
Slim Dusty (Australia) had a career that spanned six
decades and was one of the most awarded Australians, ever. He was the first
Australian to receive a Gold record, the first to have an international hit
record and the first singer in the world to have his voice beamed to earth
from space when astronauts Bob Crippen and John Young played "Waltzing
Matilda" in 1983 as the space shuttle passed over Australia. He won 35
Golden Guitars; more Gold and Platinum record awards than any other
Australian artists; ARIA Awards including induction into the ARIA Hall of
Fame; Gold and Platinum video awards; MBE and Order of Australia trophies;
and he was one of the earliest inductees to the Country Music Roll of
Renown. In 1999 he was named Father of the Year and Senior Australian of the
Year. He was known as the "Historian of the Bush," but his songs and his
stage performance reflected the changing face of Australia over half a
century. He died Sept. 19 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 76.
Candidates for the Global Country Artist Award are chosen from artists
nominated by CMA's international membership. The winner will be invited to
accept the honor at 2004 CMA Music Festival/Fan Fair® in June and perform on
the Greased Lightning(tm) Riverfront Park Stages. Lee Kernaghan of Australia
received the award in 2003.
TROY CASSAR-DALEY and Todd
Williams were successful at this year's Deadly Sounds Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander Music, Sport, Entertainment and
Community Awards. Troy was named Male Artist of the Year
while Todd, the reigning Toyota Star Maker winner, took home
Country Artist of the Year.
Long-time partners Archie
Roach and Ruby Hunter were honoured with a Deadly for their
contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music, while
the kids from Wilcannia, the Wilcannia Mob, won a Deadly for
Single Release of the Year, for their song Down River.
The Deadlys were presented in a ceremony at the Sydney Opera House
last week.

Cassar-Daley released his new album "Long Way Home" on Monday May
20 2002 (fourth album for Troy who is 32) also the first release on Nash Chambers'
new label Essence " (Nash has always wanted to produce an album for
Troy). Co-writing partners were
Ross Wilson (former front man for Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock), Kevin Bennett
(front man for The Flood), Mark Moffatt (producer of Yothu Yindi and Anne
Kirkpatrick), Paul Begaud (Everything I Do) and legend Paul

One
of Australia's most active and successful producers, Nash Chambers, this week
announced the launch of his new record label, 'Essence'.
In
his relatively brief time working as a producer, Nash has been responsible for 2
of the biggest selling and critically
acclaimed albums of the past 3 years in
the form of Kasey Chamber's 'The Captain' and the 2001, 'Barricades and
Brickwalls'.
It
is fitting therefore that Nash chose to sign one of Australia's most respected
singer / songwriters, Troy Cassar-Daley, to announce the arrival of his roots
based record label. In
speaking about his reasons for signing Troy Nash said "I've always been a
huge fan. Troy is among the best singers this country has ever produced,"
Chambers believes. "I also feel he's exploring a more progressive side with
his new material, yet it's still very much from his roots."
And
the feeling is mutual. In commenting about the deal Troy said "Working with
Nash came at the right time for me. I've known him for a lot of years and he
comes from the right stock to produce music with integrity and heart. So the
opportunity to also sign a record deal with him was a real bonus as it meant
that for the first time I have some real input into the process."
In
the time that Troy and Nash have spent working together in the studio they have
developed a strong relationship based on trust and mutual respect. The result
has been a far more organic and relaxed approach to the whole recording process
now clearly evident in the music.

4th album was released through Essence and distributed by EMI Music in March
