When David Gilchrist from the Creative
Arts and Digital Media faculty at Tamworth TAFE had the brilliant
idea of recording interviews at the Country Music Festival, he could
see that it would be a great practical experience for his students.
They would be able to go amongst the crowds with a hand held digital
device (a mobile phone for example) and record interviews with
locals, visitors and country music stars – then bring them back to
the studio in TAFE to edit and learn a great deal about multi media
in the process. But, he realised, no one outside of TAFE would ever
get to hear the interviews.
So, he contacted Tim Blakely - a Tamworth based communications
expert (whom he had worked with before on multi-media projects), for
his advice. Tim had just started to build the website:

and offered the opportunity to broadcast the interviews made by the
TAFE students on the new site. Adding another dimension to the
students learning experience he would teach them how to ‘upload’
their files onto the internet and possibly reach a world wide
audience. Podcasting was now possible.
According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia, a podcast is a
multimedia file distributed over the Internet using syndication
feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers.
To test the podcast process, a local singer/songwriter Sally-Anne
Whitten agreed to be interviewed by the editor and co-director of
the site Alison Windmill, and the result can be heard by clicking
the podcast button on the home page of

Alison has also interviewed Leigh Ivin from The Re-mains and Tony
Sargeant - a Bush Balladeer and BBQ Technician.
The website will eventually build up a valuable archive of
interviews including the TAFE students work and also interviews
uploaded from local radio stations 2TM and FM 92.9.
The radio stations are very keen to provide a way for their
listeners who can’t be at the festival this year, to still share in
the experience. One of the amazing things with podcasts is that you
are able to listen to them whenever you like!

On the
Inside a Top Ten for Sally Anne Whitten
Sally Anne Whitten’s latest single On The Inside hung on the big
screen when the debut of the film-clip directed by Ross Wood aired
at a highly inventive launch at the Regent Cinema in Tamworth in
August. Sally-Anne and her band performed live before 200 people
prior to the screening of the clip.
The enthusiastic acceptance by the audience which included many of
Tamworth’s music fraternity mirrored the fun of the clip which was
filmed in Tamworth at Diggers and on the beach at the Central Coast.
‘Launching an EP and a film clip at a local cinema made perfect
sense’ Sally said.
‘It was so different and I had a lot of fun working with the band on
the tiny stage in front of the screen. We did every track on the EP
including On the Inside live on stage. ‘
Released on NfS 107 in September the single received widespread
Australian airplay and great feedback even as far away as Europe
where French DJ/journalist and reviewer Roland Lanzarone described
Sally’s songs as ‘Melt in Your Boots’ material!
In October One Stop Entertainment picked up the EP for distribution;
the clip made the CMC charts at #39 and it received a nomination in
the top ten MUSICOZ Country Artist Of The Year finalists.
Australia’s Premier Music Awards for Unsigned Artists in 18 music
genres the MusicOz Awards were staged last night November 14 at the
Enmore Theatre in Sydney.
Most of Sally-Anne’s live gigs and numerous radio interviews are in
and around Northwest NSW and Sydney. And January’s festival gigs are
mostly organised either booked or waiting confirmation.
‘On the Inside is entered in the TIARA’s TSA’s, and CMAA Gold
Guitars and I have heaps of festival dates not all confirmed but in
the vicinity of 20 or so and that’s including gigs at The Vault, The
Tudor and The Central’.
