ROB WILSON was named winner of the prestigious 2004 Golden Saddle Award at the Galston Country Music Festival in Sydney yesterday.

Rob took the title from fellow grand finalists Meggan Carswell and Peter Pratt and was presented with his award by veteran performer Judy Stone who "wowed" the crowd with a number of songs.

Thousands of festival-goers enjoyed fine weather at Galston's Fagan Park for the eighth annual Rotary Club of Galston organised event which also included bush poetry, markets, vintage vehicle displays and wood chopping as well as the music.

The Festival incorporated a "meet and greet" at Glenorie RSL on Friday night and the Galston Club Spectacular on Saturday night.

Performers, apart from the Golden Saddle finalists and Judy, included Bella (Lyn Bowtell, Kate Ballantyne and Karen O'Shea), Michael Carr, Carter & Carter, Lee J Collier, Pat Drummond, The Flood, the Harrisons, Graham G Toole and the Wongawilli Band with their Wongawilli Colonial Dance Club.

The Festival now forms part of Sydney Country Music Week which started on Wednesday at the Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club and concluded tonight with the CMAA Country Music Achiever Awards.

Cooper's Golden Saddle Award for 2004
from Galston web Site

The Winner of the Cooper's Golden Saddle Award for 2004 is Rob Wilson from Abermain NSW. Rob, a very talented Singer/Songwriter was chosen by Judges when he performed with fellow Grand-Finalists Meggan Carswell and Peter Pratt.

The Highlight of the Grand-Finals this year was when Rob went missing after "hunger pains" got the best of him just before the award announcement. A Search party was sent out to the excitement of the Fans and finally Rob was located. At this stage he still had no idea that he was the Winner.

The Cooper's Golden Saddle Award celebrated it's eight year this year with wonderful performances from three of Australia's brightest young Independent Artists. Last year's Winner Mark Tempany returned and performed to a most enthusiastic Audience and this year's Special Guest Presenter Judy Stone, in her praise of all three Grand-Finalists told the Audience that the Australian Country Music Industry was indeed in good hands and how proud she was to Present the Award to Rob and the Runners-Up Awards to Meggan and Peter.

Rob will return to Fagan Park in September 2005 as a Special Guest and was presented with a cheque for $2,000, a beautiful handcrafted Golden Saddle Award and various other prizes.
