THE HORSESHOE BEND ROUNDUP MOVES TO HEXHAM BOWLING CLUB.

The Hunter Valley’s now famous country music night “The Horseshoe Bend Roundup” is following it’s path of growth and continued improvement and can now be found every Wednesday night at Hexham Bowling Club. Air-conditioned comfort and a great dance floor!

The “Roundup” was originally the concept of local country recording artists Alby Pool, Rob Wilson and Bruce McCumstie, to provide a night for both established and emerging country artists from the Hunter Valley and Central Coast with an emphasis on fostering the amazing group of young country performers who come from in and around Newcastle. Each week these three performers, assisted by Donella Plane take a turn in hosting the night and introducing other performers and special guests.

Every week highlights a special guest and over the past two and a half years that the night has been going this has included great performers and favourites such as 2004 Starmaker Winner Travis Collins and 2004 Golden Guitar Winners Sara Storer (record total of 7!), Adam Harvey (Male Vocalist) and “Bella” (Vocal Group of the Year) both as a group and individually “– Karen O’Shea, Lyn Bowtell and Kate Ballantyne. There has also been a myriad of other guests including internationals Catherine Britt, Bill Chambers (Casey’s dad and guitarist) along with Johnny Green (Blues Cowboys) plus many many more too numerous to mention

The now infamous backing band “The Horseshoebenders” are Duncan Toombs on Lead Guitar (Duncan is Adam Brand’s lead guitarist and with his own band “Southern Steel), on drums is Peter Figures (well known legendary country and rock drummer), Greg Franks on Bass (well known local lead guitarist an bass player) and Chad Plane on keyboards (from Donella Plane Duo & band) – the “Benders” provide professional backing to the many artists and special guests that entertain the ever-growing crowds every Wednesday night. If a night arises when any of the boys are not available other first class musician always jump in and take the place keeping up the high standard.

The night has been possible by the continued sponsorship from day one by Mr John Canning from Newcastle Brake and Clutch and the support of the regular ever growing crowd of listeners and dancers alike who continue to come along every Wednesday night.

Currently having a three-week break while all the participating hosts and artists were performing and now recovering from two intense weeks at the Tamworth Country Music festival - The Horseshoe Bend Roundup will resume on Wednesday 4th February at Hexham Bowling Club.

MOVING TO HEXHAM BOWLING CLUB
The long running Hunter Valley music night, the HORSESHOE BEND ROUNDUP is moving.
In keeping with a commitment to continued improvement, the acclaimed weekly Country Music entertainment night will commence at HEXHAM BOWLING CLUB on Wednesday 4th of February 2004.
Currently in recess for 3 weeks due to the migration towards the Tamworth festival the Benders will be back better than ever upstairs at friendly Hexham.
The bowling club will be providing a bar, raffles and prizes, all in the children friendly and air conditioned comfort of their modern club.
The weekly hosts continue to be a rotation of Alby Pool, Bruce McCumstie and Donella Plane, whilst the band consists of drummer Peter Figures, lead Duncan Toombs, keyboard Chad Plane with Greg Franks on bass. Each week sees a different guest artist appearing.
With the continued sponsorship by NEWCASTLE BRAKE & CLUTCH
and the assistance that Julie Bain and her team at Hexham Bowlo will be offering, the future of these quality nights of entertainment is assured.
So maybe a slight change of direction for all of those attending, but sure to be an improvement.
