Hello!
Here is my first update for the year 2007! Sorry it has taken me so long!

I haven’t yet reported on my experience at the Tamworth Country Music Festival so just a bit about that now…It started at the College where, for two weeks, I was living and breathing music with some great talent from all around Oz and NZ. During the festival I got to see some great artists including; (The Flood – A Must!) and Jim Lauderdale. At the CM Awards where I was a finalist for New Talent, the McClymonts beat me to it, but I didn’t really expect to win at such an early stage in my career. It was pretty cool just to get dressed up and be there! Overall I had a pretty good experience this year.

As soon as I arrived home from Tamworth it was down to Sydney for a songwriters’ workshop with Jim Lauderdale. It was a new experience for me as I hadn’t really done any co-writing. I paired up with Jake Nickolai to do some writing and Jim helped us out a whole lot. So now I guess I can say I’ve co-written with Jake Nickolai and Jim Lauderdale!

When I got home from Sydney I had to finish packing as I was just about to move out of home for the first time. I was home for about two days after Tamworth so I guess you could say I moved out a month before I moved out... Ha! I now live in the beautiful (and cold) Blue Mountains of NSW.

Since then I’ve had many firsts… My first vote, my first clothes wash (that I did all by myself), my first blood test (I think they were laughing at me on account of how much I was freaking out!), AND I have become a beauty school drop-out (Not the kind that drops out of high school to go to beauty school, even though that’s half true, but the kind that THEN drops out of beauty school to do, well, I’m not quite sure of that yet!). It just wasn’t right for me and I’m glad I realised that quickly. It has been both an eventful and uneventful time here for me. I’m still working on getting my licence, and as a result of this I have become a kind-of housewife without a husband!

It hasn’t been all that bad, not bad at all! I also recently had the privilege of a day of song composure with my friend the other, other KB, Karl Broadie. It was splendid and I thank him for the coffee.

ANYWAY, I can see myself rambling on and on and on here about mundane and mysterious events of my life but I’m afraid I have some washing up to do.

See below for a couple of gigs I have coming up. One will see me return as a guest artist to Hexham Bowling Club, where I gained a lot of my confidence as a performer and learnt a bunch!

Hi again!
Well... I guess it's getting pretty close to Christmas and everyone is
finding themselves very busy, so I'll TRY make this quick!

First some pretty exciting news some of you might've already heard! When
the finalists for the 2006 Country Music Awards of Australia were
announced. my name was included! Along with The McClymonts, Cat Southern,
Donna Boyd & Nik Phillips, in the New Talent of the year category! I've
already bought a new dress! I feel pretty honoured to be nominated for
something like this so early on in my career. Of course, I couldn't have
done it without Paul Kelly having written such a great song! The winners
will be announced at the awards in Tamworth on the 27th January next year.
(Which is coming up VERY soon... less than 2 weeks 'til the new year!)

Apologies to anyone who may have gone to the James Reyne gig at The
Vanguard last Friday to see me. (Funny, huh?) I was at the tail end of a
cold and I tried and TRIED to get better, but in the end I really just
couldn't do it. My singing voice was not up to it! I hope to be back there
singin' in the future!

I'll be appearing at the Peats Ridge Festival at the end of this month so
make sure you check my website over the next couple of days to see the
details!

Just when it looked like things couldn't get any better!
Continuing her year of success, Katie Brianna has been announced as a
finalist in the 2006 NSW Gold Medallion Awards in the New Talent category.

This follows on from her recent triumph at the 1233 ABC Newcastle Music
Awards, winning the hotly contested Country category with her song
'Guiding Hand'.

Brianna's singing talents were also recognised when she was chosen by Paul
Kelly to perform a song he wrote for the ARIA award winning soundtrack of
the Aussie film 'Jindabyne'.

This latest wave of success leaves no doubt that Katie is steadily heading
for a very successful career in the music industry!
Request the song 'Jindabyne Fair' at your local radio station!

Paul Kelly, Dan Luscombe, Katie Brianna & the Stormwater Boys - Jindabyne Soundtrack - (Capitol/EMI)  'Jindabyne Fair' is on radio now! Katie went to the ARIA'S 2006 'Fine Arts awards" before the big ones later in the month.    Last year Katie recorded the song Paul Kelly wrote for the movie (he's done the music for it!).
The Australian film, 'Jindabyne' (directed by Ray
Lawrence), opened in cinemas on the 20th July.
The Australian film Jindabyne was shot in Australia's Snowy Mountains and is the film
adaptation of Raymond Carver's novel So Much Water So Close To Home. It
stars Laura Linney, Deborra-Lee Furness, Gabriel Byrne, Leah Purcell and
John Howard (the actor).

Hello,
I've been meaning to write this update for a little while now, but as
always, I like to wait a little bit so that there's more news to tell! So
here it is.

I'll start with the College of Country Music. Recently I received a letter
informing me that I was accepted into the college! Yay! It goes from the
5th - 19th January 2007, with the Graduation concert happening at the end.
We've been advised that we can (more likely should) bring a bed-side fan
and I can tell you I'll be trying for 10!  (Not really, that's such a waste
of electricity and not very good for the environment.) Should be great!

Not too long ago I was a top 10 finalist in the ASA National Songwriting
Contest in the country category with my song 'Guiding Hand' (10th place to
be exact, haha!).

Moving on, on Friday 20th this month, the 1233 ABC Newcastle Music Awards
will be held at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle, and I am proud to say I
will be attending as a finalist! I have two songs from my EP in the finals
in the country category (what else!?). I can't wait for the awards because
I love going to the Civic Theatre! I have a new fascination with old
theatres, it's just a shame so many have gone to ruin!

Last bit of news here, but maybe the most exciting! The soundtrack for
Jindabyne has been nominated in the Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show
Album Category for this year's ARIA Awards! Told you it was exciting! I
feel very honoured to have been a part of this soundtrack and to have
worked with PAUL KELLY & THE STORMWATER BOYS! 'Jindabyne Fair' is at radio
now!

Hello!
Just a quick update... well at least I think it will be quick. Depends how
much I ramble.

Last month I played at Walmo's Babies. This is a gig run by Grant Walmsley
from The Screaming Jets, and Music Industry students at Newcastle TAFE. I
did feel a little out of place there, me being the only country singer and
the rest mostly being rock bands, but I had a good time anyway. Sadly, I
won't be returning to TAFE for the next semester. I decided that a little
time out from studying might help me get back into the actual making of
music. I haven't written a song since November you see.

For anyone that hasn't heard, or didn't read my last update, there's a new
Aussie film coming out this month on the 20th. It's called Jindabyne and
you can read all about it here:
http://www.april.com.au/jindabyne

Yesterday I went to the cast & crew screening in Sydney at 9:30am in the
morning. Yes, 9:30AM! But it was worth getting up early to see. The bit
where you can hear me singing is right at the start. A girl is singing
along to the song on the car radio... But I won't give too much away,
you'll just have to see it. Of course, because it was a cast & crew
screening, everyone stayed at the end 'til the credits were over, so I got
to see my name on the big screen... hehe!

Well that's about it for now but first here is a gig I've got coming up
during Hats Off in Tamworth.
Friday 7th July
Tamworth Town Hall, 7:30pm
ACMF A Cavalcade of Stars Also featuring Kirsty Lee Akers, Rex Dallas, Amber Lawrence plus a whole
bunch more!
Tickets can be purchased from Tourism Tamworth on 02 6767 5300 or online
at www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/ticketsales .
I might even be dropping by Bill Chambers' Sessions at The Pub on Saturday
to sing a song or two. hope you can make it!
Take care!

Hello!
Well, it has been a little while, but a fair bit has happened in my life
in that little while. I hope everyone has been well! There has been a few
new subscribers since my last newsletter so if this is your first,
welcome!

First I'll tell you about a great little bundle of good news! On Easter,
another one of my sisters had a baby boy! It was very exciting becoming an
auntie for the second time, and he's just as cute as a button!

Just thought I'd let you know that I've joined the many other artists
around the world how have a myspace site. If you don't know about myspace,
you'll have to check out the website! (myspace.com). It's pretty massive!
On my, myspace you can listen to two tracks from my EP, and also download
one of them for free! But you'll have to go to it first to find out!

Note: You can become pretty much anyone's friend on myspace, so don't be
fooled into thinking that Lucinda Williams or Gillian Welch are my
friends! (We can all dream thought, can't we?). Here's the address for my
myspace:

Now onto something I think I've mentioned before. This time I have some
real solid information. The Australian film, 'Jindabyne' (directed by Ray
Lawrence), is opening in cinemas here on the 20th July. Last year I was
lucky enough to find myself recording a song Paul Kelly wrote for the
movie (he's done the music for it!). I'm not sure how much of the song is
in there as I haven't seen it, but I know it's still in there! It's
actually being screened at the Cannes International Film Festival so
that's pretty swish!

About the movie:
Jindabyne was shot in Australia's Snowy Mountains and is the film
adaptation of Raymond Carver's novel So Much Water So Close To Home. It
stars Laura Linney, Deborra-Lee Furness, Gabriel Byrne, Leah Purcell and
John Howard (the actor).

Well, this has to be the last thing, 'cause my fingers are about to fall
off - it's FREEZING! Yesterday I was in Sydney attending an audition for
the Talent Development Project (TDP), which is basically a program of
training and development for young students from school and TAFE NSW
wanting to enter the entertainment and music industry. Some graduates
include; Jedd Hughes, Travis Collins, and Paulini (from Idol).

Harmonises on Danny Mack's New CD
ANYWAY, while I was driving home from Sydney last night I got a call from
Bill Chambers. He's working on a new album for Canadian Danny Mack at the
moment, and they were wondering if I'd come in and sing some harmonies on
a song. Bill lives on the Central Coast (NSW) and we were about ½ an hour
away, so it worked out well and I said we could just drop by. I live in
Newcastle. We (my parents and I) ended up staying there pretty late, but
it meant I could sing on two of the songs he was recording (which are just
great!). Danny is country AS, and I love it! I'm hoping I don't have to
wait too long to hear the whole album because I'm really looking forward
to it!
www.dannymack.com

Ok, I said that was the last thing, feel free to take a break! Here are
some gigs, really just a couple of little spots that I've got coming up!

Hello!
I thought I knew what the word busy meant, but I seem to be learning a new
meaning for it every day! Let's just say I haven't had much time to catch
up on 'Neighbours' lately, and I haven't been able to find enough time to
gather inspiration and ponder my thoughts, as to write a song.

Anyway, I've noticed that these updates of mine seem to be getting a bit
more regular, which is a good thing because it means that more good stuff
is happening! More on the good stuff in a bit.

An interesting or not so interesting fact - This year I started studying
Music Business at TAFE full-time. It's pretty cool and I'm always learning
something new! (I've still got a few months left of my other course which
I'm doing by correspondence - Business Administration). Enough about that.
Let's hope when all this study is over my Songwriting 'dry spell' will be
done with!

Last Thursday I had a gig at the Sydney Junction Hotel (Newcastle) as a
part of Songwriters' Live, run by Keith Armitage. I brought most of my
family (which, by the way, just keeps on growing!) with me to make up half
the audience. Not really but it was good to have them there! I really
enjoyed being a part of Songwriters' Live again, and bumping into KB2
(Karl Broadie) who was playing just across the road! Most people stayed
really quiet during my set, it was nice to have the attention all to
myself!
I'll just let you know about some gigs coming up before I tell you some
nice news. Very nice news.
I must be off to do some study now (TV?), but before I go guess what? Two
songs off my EP got played on Triple J last Thursday (16th). 'The Devil
Came Back For You' was played in the morning and 'Words I Cannot Say' was
played at night on Ash Grunwald's Roots 'n All! Very cool!
Til' next time, take care!

Tamworth Country Music Festival has come and gone, once again! I can't

Hello!
Just as I was about to let you all know some great news, I heard some more! Today the top 5 finalists for MUSICOZ were announced… and I am one of them!! (The original great news was that I was a top 10 finalist in the country category!) I’m very happy because I’ve never really entered anything like this before, and I made it further than I thought I would. So this is very exciting! I get to share the honour with 4 other great acts including Luke O’Shea, Carter & Carter, Paul Costa and Natalie Howard. The winners are announced on 1st December at the awards ceremony at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong. So good luck to all the other finalists!

Hello!
Well… once again, it has been a while since the last one of these. A bit shorter this time… some good news though! The little ‘CD thing’ that I recorded back in March is about to see the light of day. It will become my debut (self-titled) EP, so hopefully it won’t be too long now. To go along with that, there may be a website in the not too distant future! (Where the EP should be available for purchase!) So it’s all happening… slowly, but ever so surely!
I can’t say there’s really any more news at the moment… so as soon as the EP is finished I will let everyone know. Take care now!
KTxo
PS: The holiday was great! Hope there’ll be some more of those in the future!

Since my last news thingo, I’ve had my 17th Birthday. Just yesterday actually!
It was a good day, and I even got some roses sent to me! :-)
I’ve recently got a life… meaning; I visit the outside world more frequently and have way more things to write about! Speaking of Songwriting, I am finding it works best to just wait til they come than to try and force them out! They turn out to be better songs anyway, mostly.
So a bit of an update… the gig supporting The Flood at the Bridge went well.
The KB thing works I say!

Amos Morris and Katie at the Songwriters show at Hats off.

I went up to Tamworth for Hats Off and I’d say it was a success. It wasn’t TOO cold! I went to see The Flood at The Pub both nights/mornings (by the time we left!) and to Bill Chambers’ at The Pub both days he was on too. Superb as always! It is good to see that there are people who really do support the young ones (myself included) with their music and Bill is definitely one of them! It seems that I practically lived at The Pub while I was there, I hardly left before I was going back again! I was part of a wonderful songwriters show hosted by Katrina Burgoyne. I had never experience the ‘writers in the round’ type thing before, but can’t wait to do it again! There were some great songwriters there including one of my favourites, Kevin Bennett.

I stayed on an extra day in Tamworth to record some harmonies on a song for the very talented Kirsty Lee Akers. I believe the song will be her first single and it’s definitely something to listen out for! It sounds awesome! (Song is: Bashed up, Beaten, Battered, Broken Heart!)

Back home I went to see a show... It was Paul Kelly & The Stormwater Boys and it was way terrific!! I was a big fan of his before & am now an even bigger one. If you don’t have his new album you’re really missing out! You gotta get your hands on it! (Buy it, & make sure you get the one with the bonus 4 tracks!)

Hey All!
Well what can I say, I’m not the busiest person in the world but I sure am the laziest! Haha. Just Kidding. I have been up to a bit so read on…

Well, not long ago was the return of the ‘Pub with no beer’ festival at Taylors arm. Taylors arm is a cool little place. On the Sunday morning of the festival, before all the big acts, Jessica Belle & myself had a gig at the pub. The actual PUB WITH NO BEER! So that was very cool. It was good fun even though I was sick. I know, perfect timing! I hope to be able to do some songwriting with her soon as she is one of my favourite songwriters!!

I recorded 4 of my songs a little while ago with Bill Chambers… we got James Gillard in to play too & as expected... did that amazingly! He’s Crazy, and, it might sound funny as he doesn’t do much singing (that I’ve seen) but he’s become my favourite singer! I think it’s cause he seems so loopy but then he sings… & it’s all serious & stuff. Except for the JG smirk, haha! Mick Albeck did his thing & did it well also as expected! Love it! Bill did his thing too, I reckon he’s the most talented guy in the world! Enough sucking up… (Is that what you call the truth?... :-p ) Not exactly sure of what’s happening with the CD.  It’s on hold ‘cause I’m waiting for Bill to get back from his adventures ‘round the world with his famous daughter Kasey!! Heard they’ve been having fun!

Anyway, speaking of James Gillard, he’s a member of a band (THE band) called THE FLOOD. Who I’ve mentioned before J See this:

And as Karl Broadie put it…It's a KB Hat-Trick!
Very cool! As u may already know, they are my favourite band in the world! Truly! So BE THERE!
Well, more news soon. Hopefully, it won’t take me as long as it usually does!
Take care now!

Hello!
Well, hope everyone is OK & is having a happy new year & all that! Also, I hope that everyone who went to the Country Music Festival in Tamworth is recovering well!! Hehe... I’m only just starting to get back into my old sleeping pattern of going to bed at 12ish & waking up at 11:00am-ish, instead of Tamworth time’s which are to sleep at 3:00am & wake up at 8:00am.. Not easy!

Overall I’d say it was a pretty awesome festival! To make it even better it didn’t flood this year! See, last year we were camping down by the river so we got flooded out. This year I was in a caravan so it was a little more comfortable!

Speaking of Floods, I got the chance to go see a band called ‘The Flood’ on my last night there. I’d seen them once or twice before but after seeing them again I can easily say that they are now my favourite band… Amazing! I even got myself one of their new shirts! Pretty cool I say.

The biggest part of the festival for me though, was participating in the 2005 Telstra Road to Tamworth competition & making the Grand Final! As a grand finalist I got to sing at Bicentennial Park, along with the other Grand Finalists & the winner, Aleyce Simmonds. I got out on stage & said… “Oh Crap!” There were more people there than I expected so that was something new!

I also got to go sing on the Bill Chambers’ Sessions at The Pub a couple of times, & sing my first actual duet with Bill! That was very cool!
It was a very cool festival! (Not the weather though).

Well, I'll keep it short & sweet?? It’s back to the real world now & back to writing & getting songs together to record an EP or similar with Bill, hopefully very soon. So, I’ll have some more news about that & more shortly. Till then, take care & do whatever it is you wanna do!
Katie Brianna

Hey Everyone!
I've been a bit lazy with letting you all know what's going on but that's all about to change, haha!
I don't really know where to start so I guess I'll start with the first thing I can remember... Tamworth! Last month I was invited to go up for a few days to record some harmonies at LBS studios, along with a few local girls from Tamworth. So it was Aleyce Simmonds, Crystal Bailey, Roshani Priddis & me! It was for a really great singer called Darly Lamb from NSW.   I had a lot of fun & you should keep a look out for Daryl's album when it is released, I think early next year.
The weekend I got back I went in the Erina (Central Coast, NSW) heat of 'Road to Tamworth'. I found out a few days later that I'd won it! I honestly cant say I thought I even stood a chance, to me, the competition seemed real tough. The prize was $1000 but I'm still waiting.. he he..
Another album you should keep an eye open for is from Jessica Belle. She's an awesome singer/songwriter from the Central Coast & she's been recording with Glen Hannah recently.
I dropped in to sing harmonies on one of the tracks, 'Long Gone', and what I've heard from this album so far is just brilliant! I could try compare her to somebody else, but she's really got a sound of her own you just have to hear. If you're going to the Tamworth festival in January you should be able to get a copy then. Hello!!
I just got back from Tamworth last night. I have to say, it was an awesome
experience being at Camerata.  It was great to meet so many wonderful and
talented people.   Sounds kinda cliche, I know, but its true!   Everybody there
was so nice and helpful.   I learnt so much.  It was a very full on week
and I'm very sleep deprived, but it was worth it!   Before I got there, I
thought that everyone must've been terrible for me to have made it.. but I
was wrong! I was so blown away by everyone's talent, and all I can say now
is.. from what I saw, Australian Country is in great hands!

Katie Brianna

Katie with Bill Chambers

Katie Brianna
Katie’s interest in music began early in primary school, where she played the clarinet in the school band. The closest she came to country music back then was singing in her school’s Folk Group.
It was not until her sister brought home Kasey Chambers’ album, ‘The Captain’, that her love for country music started to develop.
She was given her first guitar for Christmas in 2000 and soon after was learning to play all of Chambers’ songs.

It wasn’t until early in 2003, after a trip to Tamworth for the Country Music festival, that she joined Steel City Country Music Club and began singing regularly, gaining more experience in front of an audience.
Not long after this, Katie met Bill Chambers and Audrey Auld at a charity concert held by the club. They kept in contact and later, in August, Bill heard Katie sing and asked her to record a demo with him.
Katie has performed at many of Bill’s shows, including the Bill Chambers Sessions, held at The Pub during the Country Music festival in Tamworth.
She is now a regular at the weekly ‘Horsehoe Bend Roundup’ at Hexham Bowling Club, along with many other talented artists and musicians.

Katie first tried her hand at writing her own songs at the age of 12, but it wasn’t until August 2003 that she completed her first one, and started to focus more on songwriting.
Her major influences in Country Music range from Hank Williams, to her all time favourite singer/songwriter, Iris DeMent, and also include artists such as Bill and Kasey Chambers, Audrey Auld, Fred Eaglesmith, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams and Catherine Britt.
Just recently, Katie has been accepted into the Camerata, a junior school of Country Music held in July each year for aspiring country singers and musicians.

There are plans to record an album sometime next year with Bill Chambers, and at only 15 years of age, it looks like Katie is well on her way to fulfilling her dreams to make music that is unique, and comes from the heart.

Report from Katie Brianna
It's about 2 in the morning and I just got back from a show at Rooty Hill.
It was a really great show and a lot of fun. There was a surprise guest...
Bill Chambers, who came and played dobro with me and the band for a few
songs. So that was cool. I will be sleeping and eating lots, as advised,
before I head off to Tamworth in July for the Camerata. A few firiends of
mine are going too, so I'm sure there will be lots of fun and learning and
mischief happening! I'll make sure I tell you all about it when I get
home... but until then.. Well, not much else will be happening! HAHA! Take
care

First I'd just like to say. Congratulations to KIRSTY LEE AKERS!!
who is off to Sydney in June for further Idol goings on..!! Good Luck!
Now, what have I been up too?  Not too much, but it's all been good.  Let's
see, Tamworth was awesome apart from the 'weather', I got to see so many of
my favourites sing and play.  (Most being at the Bill Chambers sessions @ The Pub).

The Central Coast CM fest was great too!.. Not so far to travel.  In March, I
went down to Sydney for the 'Patsy Cline Anniversary Tribute' at Canterbury
Country, and had a blast.
It was great to be looked after just that little bit extra than I'm used to!
I've been keeping myself busy writing a heap of songs and practicing on my
new shiny Mandolin :)
For anyone in Sydney, I'll be on Radio 2RRR (88.5FM) with Bryen Willems
between 6 - 7:30pm on Friday 11th June, singing a few songs and such, so tune in!
I'm at the 'Horseshoe Bend Roundup' at Hexham almost every
Wednesday night.   It's great to see everybody coming out, even though it's on
during the week. Hope to see ya'll there!
