Media Release, August 23 2006 Exciting new Australian band The Baileys have grabbed the prestigious support spot on Dwight Yoakam’s upcoming Australian tour. The five-piece band, who have quickly built a reputation for their high-energy live concerts, will perform at all 11 concerts nationally. The Baileys - Charlene Bailey, Crystal Bailey, Kurt Bailey, Lindsay Dallas and Daniel Conway - are currently preparing to record their debut album for EMI Music Australia. The band is obviously thrilled to have won the highly contested support slot and look forward to showcasing their music. “We were just blown away when we got the news,” Baileys lead guitarist Daniel Conway said. “I've been listening to Dwight's music for years and it's just awesome for the band to get the opportunity to have such an experience. We're all really excited and can't wait to start the tour." The band – who range in age from 17 to 21 - is the youngest ever recipient of a prestigious MO, for excellence in live performance, which they won in 2006 by taking out the John O'Keefe Encouragement award. All five members are prolific songwriters, drawing on their love of country, bluegrass and pop music. Their live performances certainly have them pegged as “the next most likely”. The response to Yoakam’s Australian tour has been fantastic, with a second concert added at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre and many other shows close to sold out. Yoakam has just resumed his U.S ‘Blame The Vain’ tour, after three weeks in the UK and Europe to rave reviews. When Tamworth band, The Baileys, were announced winners of the John O’Keefe Encouragement award at the 30th Annual MO Awards, they could well have made MO history. With band members ranging in age from 17 to 21, they would easily have been among the youngest recipients of a MO, awarded to artists from all genres for excellence in live performance. On Friday, April 28, there was an official function for all MO recipients, where they officially received their trophies, as the awards were previously announced online. That night The Baileys were out there doing what they do best – in an excellent manner – performing on stage to an appreciative audience at the Caboolture RSL Club, as part of the QUT Urban Country Music Festival. Late last week a package arrived in the mail – a very large package – addressed to the band’s manager, Joan Douglas. Tamworth mayor James Treloar was on hand to officially present The Baileys with their prestigious trophy on Monday, May 22, at 10am The Pub – where it all began for the young band members. The Baileys are composed of: lead singer Charlene Bailey, 18, who is possessed with a voice like no other, which virtually compels you to listen. Her excellent knowledge of the acoustic guitar is a feature of this exciting five-piece unit. Charlene is a young lady whose smile can light up a room, but just wait until she takes the stage – it’s then that she simply radiates with energy. Kurt Bailey, 19, has been in awe of many great drummers and he’s an avid student, having honed his craft over the past four years with the band. Kurt has studied with Doug Gallacher, drummer with Geoff Harvey’s showband for more than 20 years and one of the most respected and tasteful drummers in the music industry. Already he has notched up tours with Catherine Britt, Bill Chambers and Chris Isaak. Crystal Bailey, 21, has a natural stage presence that draws you in and keeps you listening for her next amazing harmony or lead vocal. She plays mandolin and with her striking looks, sense of fun and natural rhythm, is an integral part of the The Baileys’ overall sound, feel and appeal. Nineteen-year-old Lindsay Dallas has an enviable musical pedigree, being the son of singer-songwriter/guitarist Brett Dallas and grandson of the legendary Golden Guitar winner, Rex Dallas. Like most good players, Lindsay takes his craft very seriously – and he makes it look all too easy. He’s a seasoned hand in the recording studio and much in demand for session work. Last, but certainly not least, is vibrant lead guitarist and vocalist Daniel Conway. This 17-year-old sensation’s mastery of the instrument has been described as “freakish” in one so young. His on-stage persona is one of high energy – and he has a mutual and ongoing love affair with his audience, who are usually on the edge of their seats, waiting for his next antic. All five members of the band are prolific songwriters, and with their combined love of country, bluegrass, pop music and jazz, create exciting originals that make you sit up, take notice – and sing along. The Baileys were signed to EMI Music Australia in September 2005 and are expected to release their much anticipated debut album late in 2006/early 2007.

The huge impression Tamworth teen band The Baileys made at the Gympie Muster has stretched even further than the band members could imagine in their wildest dreams.
The Baileys’ latest champion is *The Music Network’s country music writer, Tim Holland, who named them his pick of the acts at the 2005 Muster.
In his comprehensive wrap-up of the Gympie Muster, in the September 12 edition, Holland was effusive in his comments about The Baileys.
He highlighted performances by artists such as John Williamson, Adam Brand, Melinda Schneider and Bobby Cash as standouts of the event, before writing: “… the standout act for me was emerging act from Tamworth, The Baileys. “I say this with no disrespect to many of the established acts who were fantastic. Made up of Daniel Conway, Charlene Bailey, Kurt Bailey, Crystal Bailey and Lindsay Dallas, The Baileys play everything from roots and bluegrass, to grunge and modern day country rock. “The band are graduates of the Tamworth Camerata (2002) and the NSW Government’s Talent Development Program. “They did three shows at the festival (including a main stage appearance) and showed us something different each time. “The band’s energy, musicality and relaxed stage presence is infectious, and it goes without saying that we’ll be seeing a lot more of these guys in the future.” *The Music Network, a weekly trade magazine packed with chart and artist information covering all musical genres, is widely regarded as “the bible” of the Australian music business. When Australian rock legend Max Merritt shakes your hand and says he’ll see your band at the Grammys one day – you’d be crazy not to be smiling.
That’s the dream situation The Baileys’ lead guitarist and vocalist Daniel Conway found himself in at the 2005 Toyota National Country Music Muster in Amamoor State Forest on Sunday. Not content to merely become the “talk of the Muster” after their teen band – composed of Daniel, Lindsay Dallas, and siblings Charlene, Crystal and Kurt Bailey – opened main stage entertainment and became the toast of Gympie, The Baileys attracted accolades from rock guru Max Merritt, just prior to his second hugely patronised gig at Muster 2005. Daniel Conway’s meeting with Max Merritt backstage at the famed Crowbar on Sunday morning, with the band all clapping Daniel on the back, saying how much they’d enjoyed his playing, goes down as one of the highlights of the young player’s life to date. “It doesn’t get much better than that,” an excited 16-year-old Daniel said yesterday, home in Tamworth after some pretty heady moments. The Baileys’ manager Joan Douglas, a huge Max Merritt fan at the best of times, was equally thrilled to be there. “To have players of that calibre saying how much they enjoyed Daniel’s tone, and his passion, was quite a thrill for him – and for all of us,” Mrs Douglas said. “Daniel was probably one of the busiest musos up there. In one day he did five gigs. Most players would have been delighted to be in that much demand.” Being chosen to open main stage, The Baileys set somewhat of a precedent, as the only unsigned (independent) act to have that gig on their resume, said longtime Muster main stage compere Nick Erby, the host of Country Music Radio (CMR). This band is one of a kind – with the appeal of youth on its side and something few other acts offer: quality original songs and a select choice of tasty covers. In their fast-paced, interactive, one-hour set, the youngbloods delivered eight original compositions and just two covers – leaving the Friday night crowd begging for more. After signing everything from hats, legs and receiving numerous requests to autograph other body parts at the One Stop Entertainment store after their performance, The Baileys certainly made an impression. Throughout the weekend of full-on fun and non-stop music in a Queensland rainforest, the Tamworth kids won quite a few new friends and fans, completing a further two gigs in the Crowbar – Muster’s “Party Central”. This Saturday night in Tamworth, The Baileys will perform for the very first time at the Central Hotel. Showtime is 9pm. SPORT & TOURISM YOUTH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR YOUNG AUSTRALIANS

The Bailey's Band Crystal Bailey, Daniel Conway, Kurt Bailey, Charlene Bailey and Lindsay Dallas On Tuesday evening 22nd July, Talent Development Project students The Baileys performed as the opening act at the Sport & Tourism Youth Foundation Scholarships for Young Australians. The prestigious 2003 Gala Dinner was held in the Grand Harbour Ballroom of Star City, Sydney. Chairman & Patron the Hon. John Brown, AO, surprised the young Tamworth performers by announcing that they were the recipients of the 2003 Sport & Tourism Youth Foundation Scholarship Award sponsored by Dianne Laurence receiving a $20 000 Grant towards their future together as The Baileys. Lindsay Dallas, Daniel Conway and siblings Kurt, Crystal and Charlene Bailey - The Baileys - are grateful for the opportunities that the Talent Development Project has given them during the past twelve months including the workshops and master classes which are conducted by voluntary industry consultants. The Talent Development Project Graduation performance will take place next Tuesday, 29 July at 1pm at the Sydney Entertainment Centre where The Baileys together with twelve other young entertainers will present themselves in front of some of Australia’s most elite movers & shakers. We just got back from performing for the 20th anniversary for the Sydney entertainment center. It was the biggest blast, the atmosphere was so cool. We opened up the show with a original and then played jimmy's got a girlfriend then backed the rest of the tdp which they all performed the song let me entertain you. Following successful gigs with Catherine Britt at Gympie, Kurt was the drummer for Catherine on the Chris Isaak Tour. (Catherine's band is Kurt Bailey, Clare O'meara, Ben Conicela, Michel Rose and Bill Chambers) Charlene, Crystal and Kurt Bailey, together with Lindsay Dallas, have gained a spot in the NSW Talent Development Project. They were all selected following auditions by some 70 shortlisted applicants. They will travel to Sydney's Entertainment Centre in August for the first workshop. Graduates in past years included Darren Coggan, Felicity, Hi 5, Human Nature and Brooke McClymont.

Charlene with her Tomkins Guitar that Allan Tomkins custom made for her. The little ball of power now looks neat with this amazing blue electric guitar with all the glitter and diamontes. Allan has really excelled. The biggest problem we have is all the guys wanting to pick with it. Lawrie Minson loves the opportunity.
