New Website & Continued Success for CD The Good Old Days
West Australian Terry and Jenny Bennetts’ new website www.terryandjenny.com.au is up and running with song samples from both albums –The Soldier With His Banjo their first album and this year’s newest release The Good Old Days.

Unsuspecting of all Jenny and Terry were the most surprised last year by the success of their debut album The Soldier With His Banjo.

It meant their first trek across Australia to Country Music Capital Tamworth and to Bungendore after learning of finalist nominations in the Gold Guitars Bush Ballads Section, TIARAs and the Stan Coster Memorial Awards in which Jenny won Female Vocal for her version of Camooweal.

The album went on to accumulate some 12 nominations including the Best CD/EP at the Tasmanian & NZ Songwriting Awards.

Songs from their latest just released CD The Good Old Days continue in the same tradition.

Trouble at the Diggings an instrumental with Terry Bennetts and Ian Simpson made the recently announced finalist categories in Bungendore’s Stan Coster Memorial Awards 2007 and Pittsworth Queensland’s Gidgee Coal Awards plus additional nominations for Female Vocal and Duo sections with An Old Country Waltz.

An Old Country Waltz and The Horses Stay Behind had also won Best Bush Ballad sections in the TAS/NZ Songwriting Awards and the TSA Victorian Songwriting Awards respectively only a few weeks before.

Terry says ‘Setting up the website where listeners can purchase on line or direct by email or telephone became a priority.’

‘We launched the album at shows in Rockingham and Albany in the last few weeks and headed back home to finalise the website and to get ready for the trip over to Tamworth in January.’

‘We have quite a few festivals after Tamworth next year and anyone wanting to catch up with us around the country can go to Tour Dates on our website to see where we will be playing.’

Terry added 'We hope to see you out on the road somewhere' – which has become somewhat of a catch cry this year!

West Australian Jenny Bennetts won the Female Vocal Award at the Australian Bush Ballad Awards at Bungedore last weekend.

Her release ‘Camooweal’ made the final nominations late last year adding to a short list of other nominations in the CMAA Tiara and TSA Awards which prompted her and singer-songwriter husband and duo partner Terry to travel across the Nullabor to Tamworth for the January festival.

Their single ‘The Soldier With His Banjo’ proved itself a winner too for the talented writing duo. It secured a final five nomination in the Bush Ballads at the 34th CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia and inclusion on the CMAA Winners 2006 CD. ‘Old Love New Love’ shared nominations in the company of amongst others Camille Te Nahu and Stuie French and Carter & Carter in the Duo Awards at the Tiara’s and ‘Watch Over Me’ with Carter & Carter, Colin Buchanan and Tom McIvor in the ‘Gospel Song of the Year’ at the TSA Awards. Elizabeth Lord, Brad Blanck, Anita Ree and Brian Letton have all recorded their work. ‘Old Love New Love’ was recently released on Brian Letton’s 2005 CD ‘Today’.

Jenny shared the nomination at Bungedore with another Aussie Independent writer Shaza-Leigh. Jenny ‘Camooweal’ and Shaza ‘Old Calare’ vied for the Stan Coster Memorial Bush Ballad Awards Female Vocal Award. ‘It’s great to see Jenny win and Ashley Cook too when he won. It was so much fun to see their responses and their excitement. It made the night for a lot of people’ Shaza said.

Following last year’s successful album The Soldier With His Banjo West Australian Duo Terry and Jenny Bennetts have released their latest CD The Good Old Days.

Following last year’s successful album The Soldier With His Banjo West Australian Duo Terry and Jenny Bennetts have released their latest CD The Good Old Days.

Produced by Terry Bennetts the album boasts a great lineup of WA session musicians Ian Simpson on banjo in an instrumental with Terry; Lucky Oceans pedal steel accordion and slide dobro; Mark Donohoe bass; Eric Kowarski fiddle; Dave Clark harmonica & fiddle; Ric Whittle drums; Sophie Walker cello; Eunice Hicks fiddle and Terry Bennetts on all guitar work and mandolin.

In 2005 their very successful debut album featured the single The Soldier With His Banjo which stormed into major music awards and national songwriting honours.

Four out of the eight songs on the album either won awards or were finalists leaving no doubts about Terry and Jenny’s abilities as songwriters.

Its steady rise to recognition started out in West Australia scoring second place in the 2005 Boyup Brook Country Music Awards and moved interstate into the finals of the TSA South East Queensland Songwriting Awards and scored second place in the ASA Australian Songwriting Awards Country Category and the NT Bush Ballad Song of the Year and a Top Five Finalist in the TSA Tamworth Songwriting National Awards.

By the time Jenny and Terry crossed the Nullabor to attend the 2006 CM festival it was a finalist in the 34th Annual CMAA Awards and the track was selected by EMI for The Winners Album.

It didn’t stop there – in February before they returned to WA Jenny won the Female Vocal with her version of Slim Dusty’s Camooweal at the Bungendore Stan Coster Memorial Awards.

Named in the finals of the Recorded Section TSA SE QLD Awards Old Love New Love produced another unique experience for the talented pair - Top Five Best Duo at the Tamworth Independent Artists TIARA Awards.

Earlier in the year Brian Letton had recorded the song on his Today album something Terry says made both he and Jenny proud.

The inspirational Watch Over Me a finalist in the 2006 TSA Gospel Section Top Five and the historically stirring Ballad of the Eureka Stockade third in the ASA Spirit of Australia Awards took the total nominations and successes to twelve.

No wonder the album won the 2005 Tasmanian & NZ Music Awards Best CD/EP. Not bad for a debut release.

It’s a hard act to follow but fans will not be disappointed with this latest album. Tracks from the new album The Good Old Days released only two weeks ago are already receiving accolades.

Last week Terry and Jenny learned that three of the songs inspired judges once again.

The talented duo won the Open Ballad Section TAS/NZ SONGWRITING AWARDS with Track 6 An Old Country Waltz. Track 2 The Horses Stay Behind and Track 9 Red Dog also made the top ten.

Back in 2003 Track 3 Cold Wind won the Australian Country Song at WA Boyup Brook Country Music Awards. Track 1 and the title track I Miss The Good Old Days had already scored in the top five amongst the success of the previous album nominations in the 2006 National TSA Songwriting Awards leaving no dilemmas about selection for this current album.

With five of the ten tracks already heralded The Good Old Days is certainly one of the albums to hear this year.
