- In the
charts and on the move
Let’s Make a Family – the latest single
from Camille Te Nahu and Stuie French – is a real treat to the ears
and the eyes, achieving major success on two highly respected
Australian country charts.
The single has achieved #5 this week on the Country Tracks Top 30,
rising rapidly since its entry only a few weeks ago. The single’s
accompanying video clip has shot up the CMC Top 50 charts, achieving
#16 this week.
Camille and Stuie have had a great time promoting the new album,
Recovered, which is a collection of their favourite and most
requested cover songs.
“We are really close to all of the songs on the new album,” Camille
said. “We’ve always wanted to record them, but until now, didn’t
have that chance. And it’s very pleasing to realise lots of other
people are pleased we recorded them too.”
It’s also a single that’s very much on the money for this
hard-working duo, which has successfully combined making a family
and career thrive
simultaneously.
Since the new addition to the French family on January 2 – their
second child Sonny, a baby brother for Chet, the couple have been on
the go, with nappies and gigs in abundance.
Earlier this month Camille and Stuie performed at the Wandong
Festival in
Victoria, the Port Lincoln Festival in South Australia and with
their two boys in tow, will clock up plenty more frequent flyer
points in coming months at
festivals around the country. This country music family is truly on
the move!

- Hi Everyone
It has been a busy month for us getting used to life with two boys!!
- Camille gave birth to a baby boy (3 weeks
early) on 2nd January 2007. We called him Sonny Teina (Maori for
younger brother) French. He weighed 6lb 15oz.
- We’ve had a month long break from music but we’re both keen
to get back into it again with lots of festivals coming up.
Our latest single “Let’s Make a Family” now has a video clip. Our
Director Duncan Toombs did an amazing job of it and we’re very
proud! We need your help to get it on to the charts. Please go to
www.countrymusicchannel.com.au , register yourself as a user
then go to request. You can only request the clip once a day You can
watch it on our website too @

Family is currently number 16 on the Australian Top 30 Country Music
Tracks.
Stuie and I missed most of the Tamworth Festival this year although
Stuie still made his annual Pickers Night which from all reports was
a success. We were honoured to have two top five nominations in the
Golden Guitar Awards, and Stuie got to perform his instrumental Mr
Sandman on the night.
Our baby is going to be a frequent flyer in no time at all according
to our gig schedule! We are appearing at various festivals around
the country over the next few months, so please do come up and say
hi! Don’t forget the latest album “Recovered” is available now.

- Golden moments for Camille and Stuie
From Anna Rose
-
- Leading Australian independent artists Camille Te Nahu and
Stuie French are delighted to be among the country music elite as
finalists in the 35th annual Country Music Awards of Australia.
Let’s Make A Family, the first single from their new album,
Recovered, has propelled them into Group or Duo of the Year, while
another track, Mister Sandman, has secured Stuie a finals berth in
Instrumental of the Year.
Camille and Stuie are the reigning Group/Duo of the Year, following
their triumph at the 2006 Southern Stars Australian Independent
Country Music Awards at Mildura.
They were also named Group/Duo of the Year at the 2006 TIARAs at
Tamworth in January, so this golden recognition from the Country
Music Association of Australia is more than welcome.
“It was absolutely wonderful winning that award in Mildura in
September, and securing three awards at the TIARAs in January, but
to imagine we could be accepting the Group or Duo Golden Guitar in
January is something else entirely,” Camille said. “It really is the
big league, to be in such fine company.”
Stuie already has an Instrumental Golden Guitar on his mantelpiece,
courtesy of The Feral Swing Katz’ win in that category in 2002, for
the band’s rendition of the Norman Hamlet-Roy Nichols-penned
classic, Stealin’ Corn.
They started out 2006 being named Group of the Year at the TIARAs,
so they’re both hoping 2007 may be the year they add that second
Golden Guitar bookend to the French mantelpiece. A third Golden
Guitar wouldn’t be any bother to accommodate either.
For further information, or to arrange an interview with Camille and
Stuie, please phone Anna Rose on 0428 413 809 or Stuie on 0417 430

Dynamic duo takes out top indie
award
- Wives might not like old girlfriends, but people sure do love
the musical combination that is Camille Te Nahu and Stuie French.
Camille and Stuie took out the Independent Group/Duo of the Year at
the Telstra CountryWide Southern Stars 10th Annual Australian
Independent Country Music Awards, with their hit single, Wives Don’t
Like Old Girlfriends.
The announcement was made in Mildura last Saturday night at the
Mildura Arts Centre Theatre – and Camille and Stuie are over the
moon. Being named Australia’s leading independent duo is no load to
carry either, when you have a wonderful new album of songs to share
with your audience.
With the title of "Recovered", the new disc is 14 great songs
Camille and Stuie have always wanted to perform live – and have
often been asked to do by their audience – so they’re giving the
public just what they asked for! You’ll find classics by Tennessee
Ernie Ford and Merle Haggard, along with some absolute gems by
leading Australian and international writers, made famous by country
greats Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and Vince Gill. It wouldn’t be a
Stuie French album without a couple of classy instrumentals so just
close your eyes, sit back and soak in Stuie’s masterful playing on
Mister Sandman and Carnival of Venice.
Most people came to know Stuie French through his co-founding of
Golden Guitar winning band, The Feral Swing Katz, with the man of
steel, Michel Rose, and through his years spent touring with Gina
Jeffreys and Troy Cassar-Daley.
The highlight of Stuie’s career to date was getting the opportunity
to jam with his all-time hero, Merle Haggard, in 1995 in the US, and
during Merle’s Australian tour in 1996.
When Camille Te Nahu made the move across the Pacific from New
Zealand in 1999 she quickly established quite a reputation for her
vocal abilities in a very short time. She secured a spot on Kasey
Chambers’ The Captain tour as back-up vocalist and things really
started happening for Camille in the land of Oz.
Since then she’s won more than a few hearts with those silky smooth
vocals and become an in-demand session singer and backing vocalist
for many a major star.
Now an artist in her own right, Camille secured the Female Vocalist
award at the 2006 TIARAs, presented in Tamworth. At that same awards
ceremony, Stuie won Instrumental of the Year and together they were
named Duo of the Year.
Now having that title reinforced at Australia’s leading independent
awards ceremony in Mildura, Camille and Stuie are ready to take on
all comers.
The first single from their new album has just been released to
radio, so listen out for the track titled Let’s Make A Family. If
you listen closely, you’ll hear Camille and Stuie’s two-year-old son
Chet, playing harmonica on that song.

- Hi Folks
June is going to be a busy month for us with 3 gigs out west this
weekend, a festival at Barmera SA next weekend and then a mini tour
in QLD with Bush Balladeer Dean Perrett.
Stuie has been busy in the studio recording an album for Sydney
Singer-Songwriter Steven Anthony and this week from Adelaide Dave
Prior. So in between studio work and sideman gigs we're able to do
some shows of our own. And yes you're not seeing things when you
read this Sunday we're doing two gigs in a row with only 45 minutes
to get from one to the other! Seemed like a good idea at the time,
all I do know now is that we'll be running! Stuie says if you're
there can you give us a hand to pack up the gear please!!!
We've been out of circulation a bit the last couple of months mainly
due to the fact that we got married on Easter Saturday. We had the
best day with our families travelling from NZ and Tasmania to share
it with us. We spent a week after that in NZ on a honeymoon / gig.
(you can't go away and not do a gig!)
In the near future we're working on a new album, we've got the
Gympie Muster coming up, a Jazz Festival (w/Ferals) in Wagga Wagga
and lots of others, so keep checking the gig guide for updates.

- Hi Folks
We are finally home after a hectic few months of travelling. We've
been from New Zealand to Tamworth and down to Tasmania and we're
finally home back in Sydney. We had a successful trip in NZ where we
played a few shows around the North Island. The shows went really
well, our favourite being in Petone, Wellington @ the local
Bluegrass Society's Venue with a lot of help from Andrew Bicknell
who was just fantastic to us. Andrew organised everything including
a TV appearance and National Radio Interview, drove us around
Wellington and well .. just really looked after us - thanks Andrew.
We had a full house that night and the crowd were the most attentive
and appreciate we've ever played to. We can't wait to go back again!
In January we made the annual trek to Tamworth to the Country Music
Festival where we had a blast. We had two Golden Guitar Nominations
in the Duo/Group and Instrumental of the Year and although we didn't
win, we were proud to be amongst such great talent and especially
stoked for our good friends THE FLOOD who took out the Duo/Group
section. These guys have worked hard and as a lot of you will know,
are an amazing band with KB up front who has the best voice in
Australia, if not the world!!!!!
We did however win three TIARA Awards which are for Independant
Artists. We won the Duo and Instrumental sections and Camille won
Female Vocalist of the Year. Stuie had his "Pickers Night" on the
same night so we had to bolt half way through the Awards although
all of our sections had been announced. The Pickers Night will be a
hard one to top this year as we had Redd Volkaert out from USA who
played in Merle Haggards Band for 4 or so years, so all of the boys
were in 'heaven' playing alongside Redd. He is a fantastic player,
super nice guy and very inspiring to be around. Stuie had a few
special guests jump up to do a couple of songs including Troy Cassar-Daley
and Adam Harvey - thanks guys.
A few days after coming back from Tamworth we headed down to
Tasmania where we played at the Launceston Country Music Festival
which was a fantastic day. You couldn't have asked for better
weather or people, it was awesome. Our part of the show went really
well and we had some great local guys Darren Pinner & Steve Souby
who played bass and drums for us and did a fine job. While we were
in Stuie's home town of Wynyard we played a show for the locals and
had a good turn out.
2006 will be a busy one for Stuie and I as we've been invited to
play at a few festivals around the country including Bunyip (VIC),
Murraylands (SA), South Australia CM Festival in Barmera and Mildura
(VIC) for the second year. We'll be doing plenty of local gigs
around Sydney too, sometimes with our band "THE TEABAGS" who are
Brad Bergen on drums and Geoff Simpson (Simo) on Bass Guitar. We're
loving playing with these guys, there two of our best mates and top
players so we're very spoilt to have them alongside us.
Stuie is keeping busy in his "Swingin' Doors" Studio currently
producing an album for Bush Balladeer Dean Perrett and has many
others in the pipeline.
* Our latest single "Wives Don't like Old Girlfriends is at Number
24 in the Top 30 Country Tracks
Keep checking the website
www.camilletenahu.com and our gig guide for any
information about where we're playing - we'd love to see you at a
show some time.
- Golden Glow For Duo With
Nominations
Two of the most respected artists-musicians in the country
music industry have been honoured with finalist nominations in the
2006 CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia.
It's the culmination of a special collaboration that began in 2002
when New Zealand vocalist Camille Te Nahu and co-founder of the
Golden Guitar winning band The Feral Swing Katz, Stuie French teamed
up to work on Camille's solo record. In 2004 they started working on
a brand new album together titled Not Without You - eventually
released mid this year.
Currently touring New Zealand's North Island, Camille & Stuie were
excited when told the news they had received a finalist berth in
Vocal Group or Duo Of The Year with their top 20 chart hit Without
You and Stuie making the final five with his own composition Ode To
Roy & Chet in Instrumental Of The Year.
It will be a tight contest for Vocal Group or Duo as they are in
great company alongside some of the best in the business with Bella,
Carter & Carter, The Flood and newcomers The Sunny Cowgirls.
They have also been successful in being named nominees in the
upcoming TIARA Awards for Country Duo Of The Year with their latest
single Wives Don't Like Old Girlfriends (NFS #101 track 1). With
Camille and Stuie featuring respectively in Female Vocal of the Year
and the Barry Thornton Memorial Instrumental Award.
Camille has gained attention in the Top 10 finalists for the 2006
Victorian & National Country Music Awards to be held in February,
with her collaboration with Emma Hamilton on the track The Water Is
Wide, featured on Emma's debut cd - making it into the Top 10 for
Duo Of The Year.
The album Not Without You was named Independent Album Of The Year at
the 2005 Tasmania & New Zealand Songwriting Awards. Produced by
Stuie at his own studio, "Swinging Doors", Stuie has produced
artists such as Felicity Urquhart, Camille Te Nahu, Lee Forster,
Victoria Baillie, Daniel Thompson and of course The Feral Swing
Katz.
Audiences have fallen in love with Not Without You - a collection of
original tracks as well as some well-loved classics. You can see
Camille & Stuie together on screen by logging onto the Country Music
Channel website and requesting their clip Without You.

- Hi Everyone
I'm sure you'd all given up on me sending you news since I haven't
shared any in quite some time, but things are about to change!!!
Firstly, we have a brand new album about to be released. The 'We' is
Stuie French and myself. An album we've been trying to do off and on
over the last couple of years in between touring and having a baby!
And it's finally here, it's called "Not Without You"
Not Without You is a collection of 13 songs, 4 of which are original
tracks written or co-written by myself and Stuie. The rest are
versions of some well-loved classics and some not so well known
songs that we love! We have all of our friends helping us out
including the Flood's frontman (My hero) Kevin Bennett making an
appearance on a couple of songs. There is a cover of my good friend
Audrey Auld Mezera's song "Love you like the Earth" which is on her
latest album "Texas". The first single titled "Without You" is due
for release in June and the album on 5 July. Keep an ear and eye out
for it.
You can order a signed copy of the album by sending
$28 (includes postage) to:
Camille Te Nahu, PO Box 37, JANNALI NSW 2226 (and you won't have to
wait til July!!!)
- Stuie and I have been busy playing and singing on a few albums
lately ... Sara Storer's upcoming album and 2005 Starmaker Winner
Travis Collins - look out for these!
Keep checking the website

There will be all the new album info as well as a guestbook which
we'd love you to sign.
We have a few gigs coming up which tie in nicely with the new album.

- IT'S A BOY! Chet Raynor Te Nahu-French born 17th March (on
his due date!) 7lb 8oz. Stuie and I are loving being parents and
we're getting used to the 'no sleep!' He is the light of our lives
and a real little cutie! (Do all mums say that?!)
As you can see from the gig guide, we're back into the swing of
things starting this coming Sunday 25th April @ The Vangaard in
Newtown. This was supposed to be a Ferals Album Launch but
unfortunately we couldn't get the album pressed in time, so we'll be
having an official launch in June at the Brass Monkey (Cronulla).
The album however IS available, see details @
www.feralswingkatz.com
or email

I'm still getting my head around getting back into 'work mode!'
after the arrival of our little man. I'm loving being a mum although
my days are certainly 'flying' these days. Every day I plan on doing
preparation to 'get back into it' but before I know it, it's 10pm
and I can barely keep my eyes open!!!
We have a few festivals coming up, both Country and Jazz so they
will all be good fun no doubt. And the plan is to have an album out
for these festivals. The Ferals album will be out as of next week,
so now Stuie and i can focus on our one.. I Promise!!!!
See you at a gig soon!

- Hi Everyone
Sorry I've been so slack with keeping you all updated with everything but
it's been a busy time getting the nursery ready and get the extensions done
on the house before the new arrival. I had a great Tamworth this year, took
it pretty easy only taking on a gig a day and one solo gig with the Feral
Swing Katz. Thankfully the weather was kind and I didn't overheat like I
thought I would!!
Now that we're home (for a while!!) Stuie and I are finally able to
concentrate on our album that we've been slowly doing over the past 18
months. We are hoping to get it finished before the baby arrives but somehow
I doubt it! Will keep you updated. One album that will be happening in the
next couple of weeks however is the new Feral Swing Katz album. We're
recording an album with the current lineup consisting of Stuie, Michel, Ian
Lees (Bass), Joel Davis (Drums) and myself on vocals. We've booked in time
Mid February to get it all underway so we're very excited about that. Check
out www.feralswingkatz.com for more info.

- Baby for Camille and Stuie
Wow... it's almost November - Eeek! The last month or so has
been busy, not with music but with entertaining our families who
have travelled from afar to come and see Stuie and myself! First we
had my grandmother, mother and three aunties arrive from New Zealand
for 8 days, then we had Stuie's brother, wife and three nephews for
3 days so as you can imagine it's been pretty hectic!
Amongst the family visits however, we have managed to record another
song for the upcoming album and do a few Ferals and Beccy gigs in
between! As you'll see from the dates below we have quite a few gigs
coming up and a two week tour of South Australia which should be
good fun!
For those of you who haven't already heard, Stuie and I are
expecting our first child in March 04. We are both very excited and
would like to thank you all for the cards and pressies which we
received.
Looking forward to seeing you at a gig soon :)
Cheers,
Camille

Gina Jeffreys and Camille
Camille Te Nahu's self-titled album debuts a voice
with a richness, warmth and a texture you could almost hold in your hands
- if only the occasional sweetness didn't run through your fingers.
With Camille 'sixth sense' for rhythm, the laid back acoustic groove of
Camille Te Nahu" speaks of too many late nights spent in the very
best of company - in this case Australia's top musicians, including Stuie
French, Bill Risby , Jeff McCormack and Bill Chambers.
The musical alchemy that brought the millennium in
for 30,000 New Zealanders could only come from the tribal/urban cauldron
that is Camille. Her voice tells her story - an earthy yet
ultimately melodic sound huskily honest and genuinely charming. An
'honorary Australian' since '99. Camille spent her
childhood in the New Zealand town of Gisborne. It's no
surprise her voice is one that speaks all languages...
"Camille has an extraordinary
gift. With a rich warm timbre her voice is truly like no
other... I think the music industry is crying out for such an
honest, unmistakable, raw talent" - Gina Jeffreys
This potent combination has also brought
magic to Camille's work as a harmony singer, on tracks including Kasey Chamber's
No. 1 single "Not Pretty Enough" and Gina Jeffreys' hit
"Angel". Just back from a Troy Cassar-Daley tour and her
NZ album launch September sees Camille return to he USA (a previous tour
with Kasey included TV appearances on "Austin City Limits" and
Oxygen") This follows a 2001 Australian tour with
Gina Jeffreys and Rick Price, after almost two years opening for Kasey's
"The Captain" show. In between, Camille has managed to fit
in further session work for top Australian names like Bccy Cole, Sara Storer and
Darren Coggan, with renowned producers Rod McCormack and Nash Chambers. "Camille
is one of the most talented artists I've had the pleasure of working with.
She has an incredibly unique voice with a natural sense of rhythm. I
honestly believe Camille has what it takes to reach the top." - Nash
Chambers, CMAA Producer of the Year 2002 With
her first release, Camille takes 12 very different songs and forges them into a
testament to the versatility of her talent - you're bewitched by the careless
ease of "Don't mind if I do", then struck by the plaintive duet
"I'm So lonesome I Could Cry". Like all the great voices, there
is an intense familiarity floating just beyond reach.... as if this album was
already part of your collection, you just didn't know it. So put your
expectations aside. Let the girl with the voice do the talking. And
though Camille might sing "I Can't Make You Love Me" - don't bet on
it. "Camille
is one of my favourite singers ever! She is a beautiful person with
a million dollar voice. We're lucky to have her in Australia."
