September/October Newsletter

Hi Guys!
Not much news to report over the last two months. There have been a few gigs in Queensland, but other than those, things have been pretty quiet!

I recently went west with Phil for a couple of very well received gigs. The first one was in a town called Cappella (West Qld). We didn’t have the biggest of audiences but boy did they enjoy themselves! It was a great night. Damien Broome, who is a good mate of Phil’s and a very nice guitar player from Rockhampton, along with his mate Gary met us at the gig, it was great to catch up with them and have a few drinks! Also it was a big surprise when Phil’s sister Virginia (aka Goog) turned up after a long drive from Parkes in NSW!!! They were just passing through on their way back to North QLD, and called in for the night. It’s always great to catch up with Goog and Pat!

The next day we drove down to Emerald, only 52K’s from Cappella. We had a bigger crowd there at the Emerald Memorial club, and it was another top night. Barry Irvine from Sarina (near Mackay) joined Phil onstage with his harmonica for a couple of songs. And once again Damien and Gary joined us for the show.

Don’t forget to keep checking the website for more gig updates!
Hope this finds you all well and we hope to see you at the next gig!
Regards
Afton & Phil

Phil Emmanuel Fan Club
August 04 Newsletter
Hi everyone!
Hope this finds you all well….
It’s been a quieter month this time round. As I have mentioned in the past few newsletters, Phil did get into the studio this month to do the mixing on the last of the tracks for EGP. I heard a few of them and was VERY impressed, I can’t wait to hear the rest!!! It’s getting closer now folks!

This month also saw Phil playing in a few different places on the east coast. If you were at one of the gigs we’d love to hear about it, whether it was your first Phil Emmanuel show or your Fiftieth! Share your experiences with the rest of us!
I was lucky enough to go to Airlie Beach (north of Mackay, North QLD) to see Phil play at the Whitsunday Sailing Club on the 13th and 14th of August. What a great show that was! Phil used my brand new (limited edition) Levinson Blade, which is the grandson of his Blade guitar. After a few songs being very careful with the new guitar, he decided he was going to wear it in a bit by wiping a hand full of sweat on the unmarked finish…classy stuff, especially when the Levinson dealer for Australia was sitting in the front row!!!
After that Phil came back down to my place in Mackay to celebrate my 21st birthday with me, along with the Levinson folks from Melbourne, Alan and Robyn Samin, Peter Pik and his wife Genene from Sydney and Mark Johnson also from Sydney. It was a fantastic day, maybe not for the neighbours who would have got an earful from the PA set up in my lounge room! But for the rest of us, it was just awesome! Plenty of food, HEAPS of Jack Daniels and a selection of some of the finest musicians in Australia… What a day!
The latest gig guide will be up on the website in the next few days so keep an eye out for that, and until next time keep safe!!!!
Regards,
Afton & Phil

Hey guys!
Here’s this months newsletter… slightly late, hope this finds you all well! It’s been another fairly busy month for Phil, with gigs, rehearsals and the whole bit, so here’s the latest news….
SHADOWLAND
As you may have noticed the first “Shadowland” concert has been postponed, but not to worry! Phil is very excited about this new project, and can’t wait to get it on the road hopefully before Christmas. It will definitely be a concert not to miss! The first hour of the show is made up of pure Shadows music from the 60’s, all the ‘well known ones’, then the second half is other music… some of Phil’s originals and also some big showstoppers! It’s gonna be great! Keep checking the gig guide for more information on when the show is up and running.

We have a couple of new members to the fan club that are both celebrating their birthdays this month, so happy birthday to Lee (22nd July) & Mary (21st July). Lee and Mary are both from Florida in the USA. Hope you had a great day guys!
Welcome all new members! Don’t be afraid to share your Emmanuel stories with us, We’d love to hear them, or just say hello!
As some of you already know, the airing of “This is your life” on Tommy E, on the Nine Network, with the Emmanuel family and friends, has been moved back to October. We will give you a reminder closer to the date so you don’t miss it! It was a truly magical night.

Phil will be headed north next month for a couple of shows in Airlie beach, Qld, then as mentioned in last months newsletter, overseas to our New Zealand friends, check your local gig guides for details

That’s the latest, so until next month,
All the best!
Afton & Phil

Hey Guys! Here's the latest newsletter, it's been a busy month or so! Hope you all enjoy it.
The pics will appear on the website soon, along with some photos from the cruise (thanks again Cam, they're awesome!)

Palm Creek Festival
What a fantastic festival! Great people, great atmosphere, great music and great food... (ask Phil about the pancakes!) Phil played on the Friday solo, and Sunday night with the awesome band 'The Bassalt River Boys'. He even did some roadie work for me (for a change) while he was there. (Yes, I have photo's to prove it!)

The Festival is held at Mountain View Lake Holiday Park, 40km south of Townsville on the Bruce Highway, about 2km off the road and at the foot of Mt Elliot National Park. It's a spectacular place, surrounded by tropical rainforest. Definately a festival not to miss. I know Phil and myself will try very hard to get back there next year. The Festival occurs annually on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. Thanks to the festival organisers and everyone who made it a great weekend.
Cairns
I was lucky enough to continue the journey north with Phil, and what a ball we had. After Palm Creek we welcomed a few days rest at Phil's sister, Goog's place. On the Thursday we arrived in Cairns and played that night at Johno's Blues Bar. As usual, Phil filled Johno's and pumped out some of the classics, backed by 'Howling' Bob Howlett on keys, Danny on drums and Willy on bass. On Friday we had a night off but went back to Johno's Blues Bar to watch the amazing 'Old Spice Boys' from Byron Bay. If you get a chance to catch these guys, do it, they are fabulous!
Saturday night, Phil played again and he was joined in the first set by fingerpicker Peter Pik from Sydney for a bit of a jam. Pete and his wife, Janine just happened to be holidaying in Cairns for the weekend. (It was great to catch up with you guys!) Also joining Phil on stage was a local singer Sue (Miss Prissy), who belted out some great rock songs... I was blown away, what an awesome voice.
On Sunday afternoon we went to Ellis Beach where Phil played with a band called 'Hot Ice'. What a beautiful spot. Dense tropical rainforest on one side of the road, a beautiful beach on the other side, and a wonderful afternoon of music in between.
Whilst in Cairns, Phil took me up to Kuranda to visit Craig Wilson, a good friend of his, who breeds the most stunning Jungle Carpet pythons I have ever seen. (Thanks for the lunch, mate.)
New Zealand

All you Emmanuel fans in New Zealand keep an eye out, cause Phil is coming your way at the end of August. I will let you know more details as they come to hand.
News
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a date for the final studio mixing! Phil will be going into the studio on 9th and 10th of August to do the final mix before taking the tracks to the Gold Coast to lay down the extra tracks mentioned in the last newsletter. Fingers crossed, it will hopefully be finihsed just in time for Christmas.
Welcome New Members
Until next time, take care and keep checking the website for a gig near you.
Kind regards, Afton & Phil

Newsletter
Yes, FINALLY!! the newsletters have started again.... after such a long break, WELCOME BACK! and my apologies for the lengthy delay.
This year is already hotting up to be crazy with deadlines and commitments, and as a result, I've asked Afton Chin (you can see her pic on the fan stories page) to write the newsletters on my behalf, and she has kindly agreed (Bless you possum! J)
Please be nice to her (as I know you will) and give her some cheek via the newsgroup (yes Cameron’s x 2, this means you!)

Its been the greatest of pleasures getting to know you all via email and the newsgroup, and those that I have been very fortunate to meet at Phil’s gigs. Please continue to email me when the mood grabs you or if you have any questions, I’m still here. You can’t get away from me that easily. :)
So…. Introducing Afton.

First of all I’d just like to thank Dee for giving me the opportunity to write the fan club newsletters, she’s a very busy girl and I’m honoured that I can help out! J
So far, this year has proven to be a very busy one for Phil. To kick it all off, January was a beautiful cruise on glorious Sydney Harbour aboard the ‘Rocks Rhythm Boat’. While the audience wined and dined under a sunset befitting a King, Phil played some old favourites that went over a treat! We were very fortunate to have on board some of the wonderful Sydney Shadows Fan Club, (who called out a few requests), many Emmanuel fan club members from Sydney, and our “out of towners” that made an incredible effort to travel as far as they did. It was great to see Carol, Marion & Kai from Canberra (Dee:- Thanks so much again for the chocolates Marion, you're a sweetheart! It was great preparation for all the Easter eggs I consumed :), and Cam & Kate from Orange. (Dee: - Cam & Kate were treated to their very own special version of “The Forgotten” that almost had Cam in tears! Come on Cam, I saw them welling up in your eyes J Cam has also promised to send some photos from the night so we can put them up on the site, so keep an eye out for them)

The evening hotted up with some amazing guests artists that included, Sydney’s own finger picker, Peter Pik, young Shadow’s master VJ King Jr (look out for this young lad, he’s going to go places!!) and the beautiful vocals and talent of Ms Jillaine Jones (Vic). Phil and Jillaine were having such a great time jamming together we almost needed to get the hook out to pull them off stage as the boat pulled in!

Phil’s new version of the ‘Titanic Theme’ was not missed for those on board who were just a bit nervous out there in those waves! Ha ha thanks Phil! As always, a big thanks to Peter and his wife Janine for putting us up while we were in Sydney, we had a great time guys!

After the cruise it was off to Tamworth! Phil did his “Tribute to The Shadows” show at the South Tamworth Bowling Club to a very appreciative and vocal crowd, then knocked them over at Tamworth Shopping World, and rocked their socks off in true Phil style at the Tudor Hotel. (You gotta love that small sweaty place!)

The Tamworth jaunt marked the beginning of the Emmanuel Brothers: -
45th Anniversary Tour
and what great fun they had!

Its hard to believe that 45 years ago, Phil & Tom first stepped on stage together to stun an audience with their talents, and create history!. (now you can work out how old they are :) The celebration was in the form of an Australia wide tour with 11 shows in total and miles in between. For those of you who managed to catch one of these 11 shows, you will know what I mean when I say they were AMAZING! There is a certain magic that happens when these two get together on stage, and there’s no stopping the fun. The tunes played were like the soundtrack of their life, from the music of their childhood to some very recent tunes and even some rock classics thrown in. The show started with the two on stage telling stories and playing some early tunes from the Shadows, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, then progressing to some Santana among others. After intermission Tommy performed in solo mode and played some tunes from his new album ‘Endless Road’ and sang a couple of songs. USA singer Elisabeth Watkins also joined Tommy during his set to perform a few well-known classics.

The last stretch of the show of course involved more stories, more jokes and oh yeah, some tunes J from the likes of Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler. No one wanted the shows to end; at all venues the audience were left screaming for more! The tour began in Tamworth and from there headed to Taree then over to Western Australia for a few shows, and various places in the South Australia area, then back up to the southern Queensland area, PHEW! The last show at Jupiter’s Casino on the Gold Coast was a particularly special night for not only Tommy but also the entire Emmanuel family, friends and fans. After a breathtaking concert, Nine Network’s Mike Monroe surprised Tommy with ‘This Is Your Life’. It was a very emotional night for all! Keep your eyes on your TV programs for the airing of this magical night! Pictures from the tour will be on the website soon!!!

NEWS
New Band!!! Phil has been busy putting together a new band, which he hopes to tour with very soon. The band will feature Chris Haigh on bass guitar (from the ‘Goldrush’ days) and a few other very talented musicians…. They will be playing great rock classics, as well as some of Phil originals, and a few other surprises (which we can’t tell you about just yet J)
We’ll let you know via the newsgroup and website once the band is on the road and touring in your area.

PA ENDORSEMENT
Being Phil’s favourite choice of PA, Phil and ‘Mackie’ are discussing endorsement options for a system that he can take on the road and put through its paces. ‘Mackie’ are solid, reliable and have a great tone and presence (and survives J). We’ll keep you posted as more info comes to hand!

WEBSITE
Jackie is still hard at it with the website, constantly making changes and updating the gig guide (you’re a champ Jackie, thanks!), adding new pics taken from various gigs that members have been kind enough to forward. Keep them coming, we love to see them! If you can add a short story or explanation to it as well, it would be most appreciated.

We are waiting on some pics that will hopefully be up soon, which include the 45 Year Anniversary Tour and Cam’s Harbour Cruise pics (Dee:- yes Cam, another gentle reminder J) so keep an eye out!

CD
The long awaited EGP album is still in progress. Phil plans to be back in the studio very soon to do the final touches and is planning to lay down a few extra tracks in a studio on the Gold Coast, such as Al Di Meola’s ‘Elegant Gypsy Suite’ (this is a magical piece not to be missed!), a studio version of ‘Chariots of Fire’ and his very ‘secret men’s’ version of ‘Ghost Rider’s in the sky’. All progress details will be posted on the site as they come to hand.

EGP website has officially been launched!!!
The EGP website has officially been launched!!! and you are the first to know!Go to www.redhotguitar.com to read the Executive Producer's notes, see the playlist and Phil's bio, along with some stills of the DVD and a sample MP3 to download. Channel 10 have done an exceptional job not only on the site, but with the entire production of this album and it has been both a pleasure and thrill to work with them.  Advertising started in regional Victoria on Saturday (1st Feb) and news hot off the press is that the next round of ads is to appear in Queensland this week, closely followed by New South Wales not long after.

The fan club continues to grow and welcome to our new members this month. These include Ron from the Country Music Store in sunny Queensland who also just ‘happens’ to stock Phil’s “In The Shadows Of The Beatles” and “The Miracle” Cd’s (you’re a champ Ron!), Pete from Melbourne who did some work with Phil many years ago and Jason from Sydney’s beaches area, and was kind enough to look after Phil for me a couple of weekends ago when Phil played at Bateman’s Bay and the Hawkesbury Hotel at Windsor. (Can't thank you enough Jas!)

Also this month (on the 17th December) we have a Club member that is celebrating her 21st Birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUREN!!!! We are thinking of you and hope that you have a great day.

 NEWS
A NEW BAND?!?
For a number of years now, our Phil has had an idea brewing to get a band together in Sydney that is capable of playing The Ventures, The Shadows and Goldrush! Well, the time has come and thanks to the hard work of Mark Johnson – its happened!
Next year Phil will launch (the as yet unnamed band) and will tour Sydney playing a wide variety of music including some of the early 60’s surf classics. The line up will also include with two female vocalists with an impressive repertoire, which has seen even Phil learning new material!
CD’s
We have just received another shipment of ‘The Miracle’ and ‘Kakadu Sunrise’ for all those members that are after a Christmas present <wink wink> We are still waiting on “In The Shadows Of The Beatles” to come through, and are hoping it will be in time for Christmas. If you are after a copy of those in stock, please email Dee and she will arrange everything for you.
FROM PHIL
Hi guys.

I had a great time at the Hawkesbury Hotel recently and caught up with a few old friends of mine being Paul De Marco who used to play drums for me a number of years ago (and currently playing for Billy Thorpe), and also my good mate Mick who owns the pub. It was also great to see Jamie there with his family as well, and he was finally able to get up and show us his stuff – what a great player! Dee is organising for the photos taken on the day to be put up on the site soon, so you may want to check them out when you get a chance.

A big thanks also to Jason, Mark & Mel who ferried me around the place during that trip – couldn’t have made it if it weren’t for you – thanks!

I’m off to Tasmania and looking forward to catching up with Richard (Les) Hale again and playing some of my new material for you all down that way. I hope its not as cold as the last time Dee & I were there! (and lets hope I don’t get asked to play Status Quo again either! J) (Last time I was in Devonport, Tas, a fan yelled out for me to play Status Quo. Of course, when I obliged, I broke a string and had to play the rest of the set with only 5! That will teach me :)

As Dee mentioned, the rough version of the DVD is incredible and am looking forward to touring the new album which initially will be a live version, and very different to that of the studio produced one. It should keep me pretty busy over the next few months, as well as my regular appearances in Tamworth next year. Hopefully some of you will be able to make it, and make sure you come up and say hello if you get the chance.

Thanks for your continued support, and I look forward to meeting more of you at my shows, and receiving more emails from you all.

Phil & Dee
