2007 Female Vocal of the Year
Queensland Gold Medallions
LBS Music’s premier female artist scored the top prize in one of
Queensland’s leading country music awards over the weekend.

Shaza Leigh was named 2007 Female
Vocal of the Year at the Queensland Gold Medallion Awards in
Toowoomba on Friday night for the third time.
Selected in two other finalist categories Touring Artist of the Year
and Songwriter of the Year, Shaz is a Queensland radio favourite
winning the trifecta 2005 2006 & the 2007 esteemed female category.

The magic carpet ride that started
at last year’s 2006 Tamworth Hands of Fame induction is still flying
high for the Tamworth-based artist who still spends many months at
the Gold Coast’s Robina studio and touring in Queensland. Her latest
album Strength Within scored more than a few honours of its own
since its release.

Old Calare - the heartfelt
song about losing on the land co-written with the late Greg Gordon
hitting 18 on CMR Country Charts Top 30 was named a big winner at
last year’s Qld Medallions and a finalist in the 2007 Australian
Bush Ballad Awards;
Fiddlers Creek - No 9 on CMR Country charts written by Gold Coast
writer Brenda Lee Heathcote and scoring a second Top 10 spot for
Shaz. This one about love’s penance between the country and the
city.

Shaza’s latest NfS release
Beyond Vision - by NZ writer Ginny Peters and filmed for television
in Tamworth is out now on NfS113.
And in January this year the album title track and Shaz original
Strength Within took the major gospel award at the national TSA
Songwriters’ Salute Awards.

Shaza Leigh wins TSA GOSPEL
SONG OF THE YEAR
LBS principle female artist Shaza Leigh was awarded TSA GOSPEL
SONG OF THE YEAR at Country Music’s National Songwriting Awards
Concert in Tamworth on Wednesday night.
Up against finalists Allan Caswell Al Craig and Drew McAlister with
‘The Candle’ Dean Perrett ‘The Bright Tomorrow’ Reg Poole & Merrilyn
Rossington ‘Half Way Home’ and Julie McAllan ‘Bring Me Home’ Shaza-Leigh’s
self-penned inspirational title track of her latest album ‘Strength
Within’ took out the major award.
Ecstatic with surprise Shaza thanked the TSA and sponsors and LBS
Producer Lindsay Butler for his work in production and engineering on
what was a special project for her.
As she left the stage she was greeted with more excitement and
congratulations in the wings. Even audience-goers seated close to the
front of the auditorium commented after the show on hearing the
backstage shouts of joy on the popular win.
Rob Hansen of Myers Badges new sponsor of the Gospel Song Of the Year
category who presented the award to Shaz said ‘This is an honour to be
involved with the TSA and especially the Gospel Song of the Year
category’.
Myers Badges is a Brisbane based company with a history dating back to
1937.
Initially involved in the design and manufacture of badges medallions

Shaza Leigh in Top Ten - Fiddlers
Creek #9CMR Country Tracks Charts
Fiddlers Creek this week at #9
hit the top ten in December on CMR Top 30 Country Track Charts.
It’s the second time Shaza Leigh has charted in the Top Ten.
Co-incidentally Fiddlers Creek happens to be written by the same
writer who wrote her previous hit Woman At The Wheel released in
August 1998.
‘My last top ten hit was also written by Brenda Lee Heathcote’ Shaz
said.
‘It’s been one big year that started with the induction into the Hands
of Fame in January; a win in the Female Vocal at the QLD Gold
Medallion Awards and with the next festival just around the corner
ends with Fiddlers Creek sitting at #9 and named a finalist for the
title track of my latest album in the pending TSA Song of the Year
Gospel category.’
‘It can’t get much better than that’ she added.
Somewhere in between Shaza managed a live television performance in
Sydney on Channel Nine’s Footy Show for another original song - a
tribute to football legend Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns.
In August Shaza won the QLD Gold Medallion Award with her original
track Old Calare penned with longtime friend Greg Gordon. It’s success
in 2005 and early 2006 meant certain inclusion on her latest album
launched in July.
‘Lindsay Butler should be congratulated for presenting these songs
with the emotion and the integrity that they deserve.’
‘I record songs firstly because I like them and secondly because
Lindsay allows me to do them’ Shaz laughs.
‘He has the final say and I’m the first to admit he’s the master of
this style of music.’
‘I’m very happy with the brilliant production that he achieved and the
musicianship of some of Australia’s best session players Tamworth
based Brett Dallas Dave Adams Lawrie Minson Mark Moulynox and NSW &

Shaza’s Strength Within TSA
Gospel Finalist
Fiddlers Creek #16 CMR
Shaza Leigh’s new album Strength Within is already acknowledged as
some of her best work yet.
Tracks from the inspirational album climbed the charts earlier this
year. Old Calare at #18 and the latest single Fiddlers Creek written
by Brenda Lee Heathcote is steadily rising this week at #16 on CMR Top
30 Country Tracks Charts.
Nick Erby interviewed Shaza Leigh at the end of September where Shaz
spoke about the ongoing collection of songs collated on as good as any
country album released in recent years.
TSA judges thought so too naming the title track Strength Within in
the final five nominees for Gospel Song of the Year.
In her interview with Deborah Minter in September’s Capital News Shaz
said ‘ I didn’t want to do just another Gospel album. I wanted it to
be more inspirational more than just religious. We didn’t want flashy
displays of musicianship…we wanted integrity and sensitivity. Every
song that I selected for the album touches me so I hope they will
touch someone else as well.’
Writing an inspirational song whether singularly or about various
cross sections of humanity is a pun within itself……and adds more
insight to this album from one of our best songwriters.

Album of the Week on CMR Radio
Shaza Leigh’s new album Strength Within is CMR Album of the
Week this weekend on the super network.
Nick Erby interviews Shaza Leigh as she talks about her latest edition
in an ongoing collection of songs collated on as good as any country
album released in recent years.
Shaza has selected work by Australian writer Brenda Lee Heathcote and
New Zealander Ginny Peters to add to her own to record a contemporary
collection of heartfelt inspirations that singularly reflect her own
views on life.
There's no surprises about the latest compilation of inspirational
songs and stories. Each has powerful content and melody and achieves
every objective Shaza set out to. It’s what we’ve come to expect from
this talented songwriter who fuses words that mingle into song. The
few covers Teach Your Children and the Johnny Chester classic Lord I’d
Forgotten seem to compliment the original songs.

The second single Fiddlers Creek is receiving widespread airplay hot
on the heels of last year’s hit single Old Calare. It meant solid
radio interviews for Shaz in the last couple of weeks and the general
opinion seems to be that this is by far her best album and her
maturity as an artist and as a person is truly captured.
Nfs 107 adds ‘Strength Within concedes that very perception we have
come to admire of Shaz.’
Australasian Country News latest edition has also selected it as
favoured Album of the Week.
Radio announcer Jeff Dunn said in a recent interview ‘I don’t usually
rave about albums but this one is special’.
Perhaps it’s a little divine intervention as several of the tracks
have inspirational connotations. Whatever it is it’s an album worthy
of being included in any record collection.

Shaza Leigh’s Latest Release
Fiddlers Creek Out Now
Following the success of the 2005-2006 much acclaimed single
Old Calare Shaza Leigh’s latest release is out now and available
through LBS Music Distribution and the latest NfS 107.
Written by Brenda Lee Heathcote Fiddlers Creek is a contemporary Bush
Ballad, a modern day Camooweal.
‘Brenda and I had some success with a song she wrote a few years
earlier Woman At The Wheel. I’ve been sitting on this new song for
some time because it didn’t seem to fit on my previous albums.’
‘I wanted to do an inspirational album and include a contemporary bush
ballad because I believe we must never forget our heritage and all
play our part in preserving story songs. Fiddlers Creek is one of
those songs. It’s about enduring love and the distance between the
city and the country’ Shaza reflected.
Fiddlers Creek is the first single from her eighth album Strength
Within a collection of inspirational songs written by Shaz and some of
her favourite songwriters. Last year’s single Old Calare is also
included on the album. Much acclaimed it received finalist nominations
in the 2005 Stan Coster Memorial Australian Bush Ballad Awards the
2005 TSA Awards and success in the 2006 Female Vocal QLD Gold
Medallion Awards.

Calare - Success at 2006 QLD Gold Medallion Awards
Shaza Leigh and her latest single Old Calare co-written with
long-time friend Greg Gordon won Female Vocal at the 2006 Queensland
Gold Medallion Awards in Toowoomba on Friday night.
Late last year Old Calare was tipped for bigger things. Radio
presenters all over Australia loved the gentle melody and the
connection to country Australia depicting the many hardships it
sometimes presents.
Its success heads earlier nominations in Country Music Capital in
January and the National Bush Ballads in Bungedore in February.
Old Calare was a finalist in Country Ballad of The Year at the TSA
Awards; a finalist nomination in the Stan Coster Memorial Australian
Bush Ballad Awards and just months after release late in 2005 scored
an inclusion on a NSW MusicOz compilation.
‘It’s sad Greg isn’t here to enjoy the success Old Calare has brought’
Shaz said yesterday ‘I met up in February with Maureen Greg’s widow in
Bungendore where they lived and we spoke about the song. We knew it
had potential and it just sat with a lot of country people mainly
farmers and their wives and families.’
‘I’m really looking forward to the release of my next album sometime
next month. Old Calare fits perfectly and features as a bonus track.
This is my eighth album and it’s close to the heart. There’s a number
of favourites which I think audiences will like.’ Shaz said
‘I especially want to thank those presenters who continue to support
all music types and who give regular airplay throughout the year.’
‘Winning an award in your home state is fairly special praise. I
really felt this year that I wanted this new album to be inspirational
and motivational. It’s been a great year and a big year especially for
Lindsay and LBS’s 100th album recognition and this award on Friday
night holds every ounce of that inspiration.’

Shaza Leigh is still making her way up the Top 30' Country Tracks
Chart with Old Calare still performing this week at number 18. Next
week Shaza starts recording the second single for her forthcoming
album which will be ready for release mid-year.
