THE 2004 Toyota National Country Music Muster
-
THE 2004 Toyota National Country Music Muster has been
described as a resounding success by organisers.
The Muster kicked off on Tuesday, August 24, with three venues building to 13 as
the week progressed, and thousands of people moving on to the site.
Co-ordinator Brian Sansom said: "It went well, excellent. From our point of view
as organisers we are really happy with the outcome. The crowds were happy, the
venues were well packed, it all worked very effectively.
"There was a variety of music," he said, "something for everyone. The weather
was great and the crowd was great."
The Muster Main Stage began with a moving tribute to Slim Dusty who opened the
site back in 1986 when the Muster first moved there.
Shannon Noll missed the Muster after suffering an injury on his NSW property and
was replaced at the last minute by Lee Kernaghan who responded to a "Muster
SOS". And more than 25,000 country music fans jam-packed the hill to watch Lee
give an action-packed performance as the sun went down on the final Muster day.
New Zealander Kylie Austin won the Muster Talent Search. In addition to a new
Maton guitar, Kylie's win also includes a recording package, her own CD, more
than $4,000 cash for professional development, a scholarship to the College of
Country Music in Tamworth and a main stage appearance at the 2005 Muster.
One of the more interesting promotions running in conjunction with the 2004
Muster was the CMC (Country Music Channel) Muster Eye for a City Guy
competition.
Country Music Channel gave four "city slickers" a taste of "country" including a
weekend of being "countrified" and performing a variety of tasks.
Two Queenslanders, Cairns-based entertainer Steave Riley and Brisbane resident
Kelly Watson, took home the $10,000 in prizemoney.
It certainly won't be a weekend any of the contestants will forget and the
general consensus was they loved the Muster and would be back next year.
The four part series of "Mustereye for the City Guy" is due to go to air in
October (visit
