Merlefest 2006 information
Merlefest was named in memory of Doc Watson's son, Merle, and the 19th annual event will take place April 27-30 2006 in Wilkesboro, N.C. and will feature Nickel Creek, Emmylou Harris, Guy Clark and Béla Fleck & the Flecktones.

MerleFest Report – Day Three, April 30, 2005
Saturday was a day of mix and match as performers from the various bands were grouped by instrument for a variety of workshops and ensembles. Surprise guests seemed to be the order of the day. We spent most of our time at the Creekside amphitheater which was chock-a-block full with folks hanging on to trees way up the wet hillside.

Where else but MerleFest can you see 13 of the best pickers in the world on one stage for Mando Mania including the likes of Ronny McCoury, Tim O’Brien, Sam Bush, Mike Compton and Kym Warner? Here Sam, Mike and Kym take part in the play-around jam.

The stage was then re-set for a Vocals Workshop featuring Hayes Carll, Carol Young, Joan Wernick, Molly O’Brien and members of Donna the Buffalo and The Duhks. What a treat to hear Carol and Joan sing harmony for Molly.

Tim and Molly O'Brien (brother & sister) reunited to charm the audience with there classic duets and thrilled the audience
when they unexpectedly invited Sara Watkins and Chris Thile from Nickel Creek to join them for several numbers.

The main Watson Stage area was filled with the largest crowd of the Festival
as the Del McCoury Band and Ricky Skaggs performed.

followed by a reunion of veterans of Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys band including
Earl Scruggs, Del McCoury, Bobby Hicks and Peter Rowan.

The evening concluded with Pat Flynn, a Celtic fusion event led by The Chieftains, Sam Bush with a closing set by Rodney Crowell.
